FC2 Low FPS

Recommended Posts

Have googled and searched, but don't find any solution to my problem.

I have just received my Alienware 17X-R2 with:

- Graphics : Dual CrossFire 1GB ATI GDDR5 Mobility Radeon HD 5870

- Processor : Intel Core i7 Processor 820QM(1.73Ghz,8MB cache)

- Memory : 8192MB (2x4096) 1333MHz DDR3 Dual Channel

AND my FPS drops to 11 in FC2 ??????????

I just bought "Lock on" with FC2 and wanned to test the Mig-29S Patrol mission.

The FPS is high and things goes very smooth when I fly, but when I look at other planes (in air and on the ground) the FPS drops to around 11.

I have installed the NoCloudShadows.zip but this only fixed the

cloud-shadow-vertical-lines-graphic-problem-thing.

"Lock on" is smooth with graphics high.

"DCS BS" is smooth with graphics high.

FC2 sucks even with graphics low...

I have:

- tweaked the graphic.cfg (NO result)

- tried all possible variation in ATI CCC (NO result)

- deactivated ATI Catalyst etc. (NO result)

- Crossfire on and off (NO result)

WHAT HAVE I MISSED AND WHAT I'M I DOING WRONG????????????????

PLEASE...ANYONE???

Preset all your Graphics settings to low. Then adjust to high one by one until you narrow down the culprit. First attempt to adjust Vis Range, Civilian Traffic and Scenery - usual suspects those.

in situations with stutter & low FPS - you might find that you dont have all the updated drivers you need for your:

- Chipset / Mainboard

- SATA / diskcontrollers

- Graphics

First of all, get the drivers updated - not just the graphics adapter.

Make sure drivers are updated like Panzer suggested and try dropping your visibility distance to medium. It makes a big difference on my rig more than anything else. AFAIK it doesn't affect how far you can see planes or helicopters or active objects it's more to do with buildings which really can drop my fps down quite a bit.

even if you have a i7 core cpu, it seems to be the bottleneck for your problem, cause it s only running @1,7 ghz

in my case, i oc´ed my e8500 to 3990 mhz and i have a minimum rate of 30 fps(vsync on) equal where to look to..and my gfx is not crossfire and only one 5770!)

Scudslaker may have a point.

Distant objects, needs to be calculated.

Typical bottlenecks are:

- CPU, calculate live objects, movement, physics

- Loading textures & sounds from disk, disk i/o

- lot's of objects, streaming texturedata to GPU.

Depending on what you see in the distance (quite many aircrafts / ground units) - it can be physics, .. CPU bottleneck.

Currently all units in the direction of your view (even if invisible) will be calculated.

Perhaps - you have some runnign software in the background that cause conflict with FC2?

- Skype for voicecom? (yes, some people have been doing that)

- Antivirus / security software (try to unload it temporary)

- Other kinds of bloatware?

hey panzertard, thats a verry nice explanation, but please have a look @ his cpu core speed, 1,77 mhz is not enough for all those calculations you stated above. i think some of the processes you named could be a small fps impact around 2-3 fps, but to 11 it s a bit to hard i think.

anyway he could assign these processes to the other 2 not used cores, or am i wrong and FC2 is providing quadcore activities?)

EDIT

best way to find out if its the cpu, is to overclock it in the BIOS, step by step and do some "benchmark flying" with same processes in background, same mission, same gfx setup.

I am sure your 11 fps will increase with 400 mhz more!)

pls. check out and give us response

I have now tried this with NO result:

- disabled Antivirus

- All graphics LOW (incl. visible range = LOW)

I don't run Skype or any other bloatware.

The strange thing is that no matter what I change (LOW to HIGH) in the Graphic options in FC2 the FPS stays the same (between 11-13) when I look towards buildings, planes etc. to the right as shown in screenshots.

I also tried NONE fullscreen mode and same FPS.

There must be something wrong with FC2 sins other games run smoothly???

to be honest, i had around 25fps with a 3,17 ghz cpu and an ATI 3870,my RAM is @800 and only 3072 MB...

so for me it s your cpu, that is not as effectiv in FC2 like in other games...

some other thoughts:

have you already defraged your HDD,

is there enough space left on the HDD, that some write and read operation didn t stotter

how fast is the HDD in RPM.

just trying to figure out how you can get some more!)

I have had such big fps drop in similiar situations aswell. For me, the lights effects were the FPS killer. Every time there were several aircrafts casting light on static structures the FPS dropped drastically and it looked like a cpu bottlenech aswell (stable GPU temperature + cpu running at full throttle). Maybe you can give that a try.

You cannot tune lights in options menu. You have to edit LockOn Flaming Cliffs 2\BlackShark\data\scripts\options.lua

change

["lights"] = 2,

to

["lights"] = 1,

edit: Unfortunetaly, this has big effect on your ability to fly in night, as illumunation bombs/rockets do not work with light set to 1.

1,7 ghz cpu in such a new pc? I find that a bit strange.. My 5 year old slowpoke-computer have a dual 2,24 ghz cpu, and your 3dcard could probably eat mine for breakfast

Haven't read through this whole thread, so apologies if it has been mentioned here.

I went through similiar issues when I first installed after years away. Got a monster rig and was getting really low fps. It was a mod conflict. Install each mod one by one, test and you will be able to get the frames you seek. Also turn off mirrors, they are by far the biggest frame killer.

Newer Intel chips (eg. i3, i5) have lower CPU frequencies to keep the power use (eg. battery life) and thermal output under control for the number of cores they have. For most users and uses (web browsing and spreadsheets) this is more than sufficient - but not for us. At the moment AMD are generally the better performing CPUs at a given price point. So always make sure you compare both AMD and Intel CPUs when making a purchasing decision (same goes for graphics cards - whatever was true 3 months ago may not be true today so you can't hold 'religion' about what vendor/chipsets you use).

correct moa!

thats the point, you cannot compare the different architectures of the chipset families!) sorry, but in my eyes, it s the wrong cpu for your system..

just try to overclock and you will see an effect..if it s positive, go get another, faster cpu,..if AMD or Intel, in my eyes it depends on personnel attitude whats the best choice,..in last years both perform verry well ..only hardliners prey..and you have a intel socket so..cheapest way is to stay on intel solution

Well, finally I getting somewhere...

Winz's light trick did it...

My FPS increased from steady 11 to 27.

Now I can at least fly this thing without all the stuttering.

I'm totally new to Lock on and FC2, so I just have to live without

the nightflying with illumunation bombs and rockets... for now

I guess I just have to take the intercept/escort part of the missions then.

If there is any permanent miraculous cure for this problem, please let me know.

Thanks to all of you for your suggestion and support.

Cheers!!!
