Target Practice Bomb. Its practically an inert heap of metal that has the ballistics of one of the dumb bombs, don't know which. Oh and it has a smoke generator so after tossing it it can be recovered.

It has roughly the same ballistics as a Mk. 82 LDGP. It is exactly a "heap of metal"...I have a couple of them sitting around....you still wouldn't want to get hit with one. In fact, a couple years ago someone accidentally put one on a house and it did major damage...25 lbs. with that much inertia behind it totals quite a bit of kinetic energy!

I hope graphics can be toned down so its smoothly playable on computers able to handle DCS:BS

Or i have to invest in a new computer on top of having spend 1000$ on joysticks o_O

DX11 has a trickle down effect even for those without a DX11 graphics card because all the librarys etc were supposedly retooled by MS to use multicore/multithreaded processors. THis should provide a small boost for everyone with a dual/quadcore compared to a DX9 or DX10 version because it puts those unused cores to use, even in single threaded apps. Time will tell on this..

Direct compute might have something to offer too but I havent heard of a game using that yet.

I have notice that everything in the DCS A10 looks way better then DCS Blackshark. Is there a plan to upgrade Blackshark graphics on par with DCS A10?

The FAQ suggest this to be the case, however, I could be misinterpreting.

Q: Will DCS: A-10C Warthog be online-compatible with DCS: Black Shark and Flaming Cliffs 2?

A: We hope to be able to release a compatibilty patch for DCS: Black Shark after release. Compatibility with FC2 is unlikely.

Any testers wanna give us some more info on the whole dx11 situation, or is it hush hush

OMG, talk about being ahead of the curve!! DX11 support? My compliments.

Oh wait: does that mean my DX10-bound 9800GTX2 cant run it?

I'm pretty certain that you would be able to run it but the game will be able to take full advantage of DX-11 hardware. I just purchased a GTX 480 today anyhow because the DX11 announcement has me pumped.

Probably means it just can't use some of the features, or will be slower at it.

The testers have a variety of hardware, and I believe a few have DX10 parts, so bugs should ideally be ironed out.

I doubt it, Wags mentioned fine tuning the dx11 portion before the next note, I doubt we'll be waiting until 2011 for the next note.

They are more mindful of the pending release date than we are, they don't get paid until release, we simply have to be patient and that's free ;).

FWIW: I think I may speak for many when I say that a new GPU is not in the immediate budget so please leave this DX10 compatible!!

I'm in no hurry anyway I would want ED to take their time and release an outstanding product!

You have nothing to worry about. DCS Black shark is DX9 however many individuals with DX10,11 cards have no problems playing it because the DirectX runtime is backwards compatible to a degree.

Great news!

I'm now officially saving money for a new rig that can run this game. :D

P.S. Donations are more than welcome!

PCIE 3.0 level hardware should start hitting shortly after the game releases. It's going to be rough to hold out on DX11 hardware considering I have a GTX295....

Yes but having said that I would hate to see "feature creep" delay it into 2011.

Well no one promised a 2010 release. ED is aiming for a 2010 release

I'd suspect that DX11 has been part of the plan for some time, it's too big of a change to add in at the drop of a hat. I'd say work on the DX11 engine has been going on in the background for a while and is only now coming to fruition.

Nate

I concur.

Are you going to use the Tesselator in DX11? I always thought it was the potential holy grail for LODs in flight simulators...
