I got a case of the shimmers with 10.7, rolled back to 10.5. If anybody tries these, please report back.

What do you mean by "shimmers"?

Do you mean the black vertical lines on the hills/terrain?

If so, thats a common issue for all, regardless of graphics card, you can get a "no cloud shadows fix" for that.

Nope-it was a horrible case of 'sparkling' city textures. Really ruined immersion for me. Pretty sure going back to 10.5 fixed it, although I did force triple buffering as well, so could have been that.

Edit: Now that I think about it, it kind of looked like your avatar lol

Ahh i know what you mean now.

I think you'll find that nVidia users are equally affected, this isn't something driver based, more something ED did with the mipmap LOD's of certain textures.

Aggh. 10.8 seems not to enforce AA settings in window mode anymore. FSX before flight does not anti-alias anymore, nor does Black Shark which I always run in window mode. FSX once i start flying in full screen works just fine.

Anyone else notice this?

Nope, but I am noticing some better performance all around here. :)

Is it necessary to uninstall the my current version first and if so which program do you recommend?

ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

No need to, just run the new installer to update to the current version. If you have problems that way then you'll need to run the ATI driver cleaner tool to remove everything and install 10.8 fresh. :)

Hey guys. I dl'd and installed the full 10.8 suite. Now, Flaming Cliffs 2 won't run. I get a "LoadLibrary failed with error 998: Invalid access to memory location" error message. It did the same thing to my Track IR software ver. 5. ??? This is a new install of Win 7 64 bit OS. I didn't have sys. restore turned on so have no way to rollback. I tried to uninstall via control panel but sys. crashes. Seems like I'm stuck. I'm new to ATI. My first card. Had Nvidia before that. Any help? Thanks.

Always uninstall graphics driver before installing new one... built in uninstall utility does the job

Also forgot to say, once you uninstall the driver best thing is to go into windows registry (regedit) and delete old entires for the graphics cards/drivers, and after that you install new drivers.

Try this:

Download Sweeper (http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=745)

Unistall ATI drivers via uninstall (skip if sys crashing);

Restart in Safe Mode;

Run DriverSweeper and choose to uninstall all ATI Video Drivers

Reinstall 10.8

Edit: Also make sure you have downloaded the 64 version of the drivers

Thanks for the reply hassata. Hey, after using sweeper in safe mode, do I restart in normal mode to install 10.8? Actually, I've tried it and it's not working in safe mode. Won't detect the hardware. So, if I restart in normal, what runs vid card if drivers gone? I'm so confused. Thanks bud.

Chicki, I'm still running Win XP 32-bit on one machine. Yes, I know your platform and problem are possibly different - but the solution I used for my problem just may help you.

I had problems with TrackIR and the ATI drivers (since 10.3) and found that if I ran the TrackIR5 software in "Compatibility Mode" (for me, compatibility to Win 2000 worked) then my TrackIR worked fine with FC2. This was a known problem on this platform for ATI drivers past 10.3 but NaturalPoint have not yet fixed it.
