Glad this available so folks don't make the assumption that the GAU-8/A can rip through any tank regardless of range and attack angle. Even this doc is based on an "old" T-62 with no add-on armor protection.

Yup, I had a squad mate swear to me that the A-10 gun can rip through armor anywhere on any tank. I told him he was wrong, but I don't think he believed me. Gonna have to redirect him to this :)

Actually the issue I've had is that at least in the original Lock on, pretty much any tank was perforable from any angle, it just took more hits to down a T-80 from the front quadrant. With a focus on CAS action in the DCS series, it would make a lot of sense to focus on ground units' damage model (subsystems modeling, ability to disable tracks, guns, sights, acurately modeled penetration and other hit effects etc.). I don't actually remember if such things have already been mentioned, but this might be a good time to remind us and perhaps even share a bit more info if such improvements are to be expected.

Agreed, better damage models and weapon damage models such as penetration, blast and shrapnel modeling is IMO very important to get a realistic CAS experience.

This book is an ultimate proof that effective learning must involve insults :D

Also it is understandable that ED wouldn't have a go at his customers calling them names. But whenever you will get a link to this book form ED staff you should know what ED would like to say to you, but just won't... ;)

I agree, totally over the top! :disgust:

Agree. That should instantly add a 20 minutes delay in response times for the whole crew. Unless they are an ace tank crew which saw WW II ;)

Well, mobility kills and destroyed optics/sensors would be nice. So much to do, so little time. :)

I could only imagine the tank battalion legend after that...

We had one tank commander, you know... All we did is we threw a handful of bolts and nuts at his tank's hull and he popped out like a Jack in the Box, screaming and waving his hands, running towards nearest village. We found him the next morning sleeping in a haystack, sucking on his thumb...
