Mower - which of the 2 O/S in your sig are you having issues with ?

Reason i ask: i put the beta on XP32 firstly, and had major issues with textures missing (sometimes just 1 wing of F15e, sometimes entire models missing textures), major stuttering loading textures at start of mission / pressing F2 etc on a new object and had big FPS drop around certain airfields.

Nevada map was unplayable as the map would eventually disappear and all i could see was the ocean underneath it and black 'sky'.

I tried XP32 first, as thats been the better performer, by far for me, for FC2/BS.

I was happy to resign myself to waiting a couple of weeks for next beta to be released, but thought i would try installing a10c on win7 32bit (same PC [i7-920/gtx295] that i have xp on, same version of nvidia drivers 258.96).

Wow, its been perfect ever since. No stutters (other than normal minor ones you got with BS/FC2 at start of mission), no textures missing, 60fps constant.

It definately needs to be upgraded, it is a bottleneck, but the prone-to-violence-cop-wife will snap if I drop $300 on one right now.

Really, unless she runs the house finançes and noses your bank account, she doesn t need to know.

Do you really think wemens tell us everything ?

I m doing a major upgrade in the backstage, she ll never dream about what i am doing with my money.

Upgrading wife.... hummmm

Seriously though, perhaps we should wait for the final optimizations before we begin fretting about FPS.

I had a comodore 64 so its 2 to 1:D. And i donated my pong i need space.:(

I must be doing something wrong since I am getting choppy frames even at medium settings!

Same... the framerates are probably the only disappointing thing about the whole beta to me right now.

I pray to god ED does some serious optimizing! If we need anything changed beyond bugfixes, I think it's optimization. I've been flying some MP with guys who have incredible computers but still get framerates in the 20's on Medium/tweaked settings when around a few other Hogs.

Anyone else getting just terrible screen tearing? I usually don't get this bad of screen tearing in other games. Only way I could stop A-10C from seriously screen tearing was to turn v-sync on which add's unwanted input lag.

I understand. My wife takes care of the $$ here. If it were up to me we'd be living in a tent but I'd always have toys.

First flight not very positive in terms of frame rate as expected.

I created a quick mission over Krasnodar and also at Nellis in the Nevada map.

My game settings

launcher201010082116348.jpg

My computer specs.

QuadCore 2 2.50

4 GB RAM

ATI 5770 1 GB

Latest directx 9 libraries and catalysts drivers

In my opinion a very decent PC.

At the Runway 10 frames in cockpit view, ones I takeoff things doesn't improve much and I only get 20-30 when I live the city.

When I checked the GPU temperature it wan't even sweating (50c) and the CPU was not nearly 70% with the 4 cores activated.

Shadows, Scenes, Water and Heat blur settings didn't seem to affect the performance.

Bloom effect is not available in the menu settings.

It's unbeliable, almost the same graphics not even activated HDR and performance is even worse than on Blackshark.

Scenes, water and shadows at high are probably killing your fps. Are there mirrors in this DCS? switch them off too.

You should overclock the cpu.

I like the mirrors.

O/c is good in theorey but causes system instability and the ol' A10 aint liking my overclock.

That is far from the truth. Drawing distance got a huge increase, among other things.

Scenes, water and shadows don't change the frame rate to me, I tried all kind of setting combinations with same frame rate.

Mirrors are off by the way.

I'll try to lower the screen resolution but I think it's not the point since the GPU should be able to run it without problems at 1920x1080. This beta is not GPU intensive I had very low temperatures in the GPU so it makes me think this sim is not squeezing the GPU too much.

No way I overclock my CPU. I can even play FSX almost maxed out there is no way this sim couldn't run properly on my PC. This is a 4 core CPU. There is no need to overclock it!!.

For what it's worth, your CPU is dated.

You are given advice and you ignore it - do not complain about frame-rates at this stage of development then ;)

Take out HDR and bloom effects and it would look almost as BlackShark. It doesn't make any sense this low performance, it is not even the alpha version.

I hope they improve it or I won't be able to fly it.

If you're really curious about what changed, just take a look through the numerous textures folders. While the game looks very similar, the number of new 2048x2048 and higher res texture files is concerning.

Just a quick note on what has helped me. Lowering my GPU overclock seemed to fix most of my problems. It seems that the same overclock I used for FC2 causes DCS A-10 to heat up my card and then kick it off. The temps go from high 70s to low 50s and my frames drop from 30 to 10. When I lowered my GPU O/C, this problem seems to have gone away and frames are much more stable. I haven't tried lowering CPU O/C, yet.

OC'ing doesn't cause system instability at all if done correctly.

It can when it interacts with apps and games.\

I have been o/c different boards for years. I am not an expert but neither am I a novice. I continue to get mixed results.

Same here. GPU overclock gave almost no fps gain but caused many problems. CPU overclock seems to be working out, and good bang for the buck.

Not very demanding

My system is a Duo core E6600 cpu at 2.8 ghz, I have 4 gig of Ram, and am running Nividia GF 9800GT 512.

I have the settings on medium with shadows on low and water on low. The real help is I'm running XP, I find a lot of games run better concerning FPS on XP.

Anyway my eyes are'nt that great and neither is my hearing so I'm easy to please.

The terrain, other aircraft and equipment on the ground look good and I have not had any stuttering problems.

I'm sure it would look nicer with more power but it is very playable and fun as is.

And this is the beta, its not optimized yet!

I've never had an issue outside of Raven Shield back in the day, and that was probably my fault. lol

Most issues people get from OC'ing can be traced back to improper settings.
