markturner Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 (edited) I just installed, and have a pretty good pc - i7920 @ 3.8ghz, 6gb ram, GTX295 and ssd's. I run black shark at 2560 x 1600 at about 50 FPS, on my 30 inch dell monitor. I chose 2560 x 1600 resolution, heat blur, medium shadows and 8msaa, ticked the HDR boxes fired up instant action. I was getting 1 FPS. I presume something is wrong there, it cant perform that badly surely? I installed the 64 bit version ( I presume so at least , because it asked if I wanted to also install the 32 bit files, to which I replied yes) Can anyone advise best settings for decent performance on a set up like mine? Or do you tghink something is wrong? And now I cant get it run at all, it crashes on start up , giving "NGmodel.dll as the fault....... thisisentchris87 Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 My preferred settings: Textures High, Scenes Medium, Civilian Traffic Medium, Water Low, Visible Range Medium, Heat Blur OFF, Shadows Low, Resolution 1366x768, Aspect Ratio 1.778645833333(infinite result, goofy math), 1 monitor, Resolution Of cockpit displays 512 every frame, MSAA off, Full screen, HDR and TSSAA off. Mirrors are off. These are the settings I run on my Core 2 Duo, Nvidia 9800M GS laptop and get decent FPS for a beta game, about 20 FPS on the forward view and the A-10C still looks great. Your performance should be better. You could try ticking off HDR, you may be able to pull ahead with out using my settings. RogueRunner Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 i7 920 and GTX470OC and I have everything maxed except civ traffic, water at low and shadows medium. I get 40fps almost everywhere. 25 is the lowest I saw over a city. With the price of ammunition these days do not expect a warning shot.
Ragtop Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 (edited) Remember that this is a beta, so some of the features can have a huge impact, dialling them back by a step can have a huge effect on the outcome. We'll all be seeing a performance upgrade when the FR is here. Textures are my biggest killer ingame. First, my system. AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ - 3.2gHz nVidia 9800GTX+ 2 gig DDR2 Settings for me are Textures - Med Scenery - Med Shadows - High Water - Low Civ Traffic - Med Blur - Off MSAA and TSSAA - Off HDR - Off On my system this runs at 20 on the ground, facing the panel, 30 everywhere else. Over unpopulated terrain, over 40, and over cities 20-30. Going from medium to high textures drops this below 20 wherever I am, huge hit on my settings. Water has a similar effect, but I infrequently fly over water so this is no concern of mine. Edited October 11, 2010 by Ragtop 476th vFG Alumni
Sarge55 Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 I have a somewhat similar set up and I get between 20-30 on the ground, 30 to 60 in the air depending on where I am. Almost sounds like you need to re-install. Make sure you've updated your driver for nVidea (258.95). I run my resolution at native (1680x1080) is 2560x1600 native for a 30" Dell? Don't forget to install the 32 bit version as well if you use TrackIR, at least until they come out with 64bit drivers. Fish Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Scenes made a bitter impact than hdr for me.. All those trees is a big hit. Suggest try it on low. Biggest FPS hogger is TV and MAV screens in certain zoom, and direction situations. Especially if you use both together.!! Hope this gets optimised with FV. cctoide Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 I believe "scenes" is what is usually called "object detail" in other games. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
markturner Posted October 11, 2010 Author Posted October 11, 2010 I guess something is wrong then. Now I cant get it to start. I am using the 258.96 drivers and that is my native resolution. 1 fps means something badly wrong I think. But seems ok apart from that, install went fine, the GUI etc all seems ok. It crashes on start with a .dll issue. very frustrating! Cheers,Mark i7 950 4.2ghz, 6GB Corsair 1600 hz, GTX580, Asus Sabertooth, Win 7 64 bit. 260.99 drivers

Distiler Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 I believe "scenes" is what is usually called "object detail" in other games. Scenes, at least in dcs:ka-50, affects the number of tress in forests and number of building in cities/towns. Fish Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 I believe "scenes" is what is usually called "object detail" in other games. Its more to do with how much 'sceenery' is visible i think, see the differences with low and high sceenery below. SFJackBauer Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Settings here: Water and Shadows seems surprisingly cheap FPS wise given how good they look (remember the bad looking self-shadowing from LO days? :)) The real meat seems to be in Scenes and Visibility.
