Will it be possible in the final build to use this, or some other method to bring the TGP image back into focus (as one would focus a camera - make it less blurry?)

if my guess is right, IR sensor, blackhot and white hot are intended for night use. have u tried using it at night?. it blurry for me too but i am yet to try it during night missions

In the screen shot I'm using the CCD daylight camera, which -in theory should be just like any other "digital camera."

Unless I'm very wrong, there must be a way to "focus" it...

Is it a "to be implemented" feature?

Does it get blurry at near max zoom? That's the only time I've noticed that and figured it is normal.

When it is blurry it usually is at a high zoom level, but not always.

Does anyone know how the CCD sensor usually works? What is the "normal" behavior, and is there anything the pilot can do to refocus it?

I don't think its is due to being out of focus. I believe its because when you zoom in like that your not using an optical zoom, but rather a digital zoom. So when you zoom in all the way from great distances your going to get a bad image like that.

Using this type of digital zoom is achieved with DMS Forward and Aft, so if you notice your picture with CCD blurred try zooming out with DMS aft.

Wow, I'm not sure what's causing your fuzzy image but mine is always clear even from 12 m away. What is your cockpit resolution set at? Other than that perhaps one of the testers maybe able to assist.

Did you do a "cold start"? I ask because last night I did a night mission that started with the jet cold and my TGP was blurry in FLIR modes but not in the Daylight Camera.

I have done the instant action mission Easy Georgian Spring and the jet starts in the air, and the TGP is crisp and clear in the Daylight Camera view.

*Just checked the instant action mission, CCD Daylight is crisp, FLIR WHOT and BHOT are blurry. Must be a WIP

DMS Left Short is supposed to be FLIR Focus (check the card), but it doesn't seem to work for me. When you actuate autofocus there's an overlay on the MFCD that shows the focus values changing, but there's no effect on the image. I too find that if I zoom in too far it is way out of focus, night or day.

It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm

CCD, (standard camera), has very high resolution. However as soon as you switch to IR, either BHOT or WHOT, the focus / resolution drops massively making them pretty useless for target aquisition.

Having read many A-10 RL accounts i dont recall pilots berating the 'fuzzy-vision' IR camera, in fact they were in awe of its capabilities in ODS and useed it, (IR mav not TGP), to hunt at night in the older A-10A so i am hoping this is a WIP issue. The very fact that the focus and gain OSB buttons don't do anything ATM points to this.

Take it out of wide and put it in narrow FOV (china hat forward/aft short with TGP as SOI) and I think you'll notice a tremendous increase in image focus particularly at higher zoom levels.

Thank you everyone.

Narrow FOV does work a little better and the idea that it's using a digital vs optical zoom make sense, but even so I can't imagine that something designed for danger close situations would be so "fuzzy."

The CMFD's are set at 512 res, and my overall res is 1920x1200.

Any testers have any ideas? Is this a "to be implemented" feature?

I wager it's just a beta issue.

Thanks for the input everyone.

I think this is more related to you view distance than the performance of the pod, isn't it? I get horrible frames at long/far view distance but the pod is more clear. When I set it to low view distant I get more of a fussy image, I will try it later see what happens.

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

I have/had this issue too. But its always the FLIR hot or cold camera that has these bars, like shown in your picture. Otherwise the picture sometimes is cristal clear and i can identify targets in either FOVs. I havent figured what the problem is, but i thought about insufficient warm up time.

Yes, its WIP guys. I don't think we are going to be doing any tank hunting with a 0.0000000001 megapixel camera at night.

I don't expect to be able to target a tank commanders glowing cigarette tip at 9mn but being able to differentiate a tank from a hillside at 4mn.........

I see the same thing.

In the FLIR modes i find it extremely hard to differentiate targets from the ground texture. changes in ground texture keep showing up as hot spots, even more so than the target itself making target acquisition impossible with the FLIR's unless the target is on a road and even then its iffy :(

Play with the contrast on the MFCD. You'll be able to see nice blooms.

I also get a massive FPS drop in any mode other than the default CCD mode. I get no framerate drop what so ever when in CCD mode even switching from STANDBY to the ground mode (forgot what its called atm am at work) I get 20+fps in CCD and it drops to 10+fps in white hot etc.

Not been tank hunting at night though so Im not sure.

Fantastic news. Now for some "night hog" hunting.

Actually I was content with how it was, I thought that the zoom was just digital after you use that first optical zoom, and if so that would explain the blur as digital zoom sacrifices resolution.
