Cali Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Are you into flight sims? If you are just getting into them I would start out small then work your way up. It would suck to buy a HOTAS for $400+ and not like flight sims too much or think the learning curve is too high. Here is a little advice/info on a few HOTAS; TM Warthog, just got released, unknown how good it is besides a few people saying it is great that have tested it. My advice is wait at least 6 months before buy this. Wait til other people have tested it out and see what the general pros and cons are. The price for this HOTAS is $400 and that's without pedals. TM Cougar, very nice built HOTAS just like the Warthog, but you will need to buy mods for it to make it into what it should have been. I had one of these about 4 years ago and a stock cougar is hard to dogfight in, if you get caught in one. I had mine for about 2 weeks, then sold it, cause at the time I didn't have the money to mod it. I recently bought another cougar for $160, but haven't been able to get it working with Windows 7, I think I need to reformat. Others have it working in Windows 7 with no problems. Cost is around $160-200 stock and mods can cost up to $600 if I'm not mistaken. CH Products, I have had this set up for over 7 years, and they still work like I just took them out the box. Cost is about $90-110 per device. I have the stick, throttle and pedals and at the time it cost me $330 dollars. X52 Someone else can tell you about this X52 pro Someone else can tell you about this X65 Someone else can tell you about this 940 Someone else can tell you about this Read the link I posted below, do some research on what you are interested in, that's the best advice I have for you. Good luck and enjoy, flight sims are fun. I have been flying lock on since 2003 and love it. Sorry, have to get to work. Here is a link to some very good info on them http://www.simhq.com/_technology2/technology_094a.html i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
russell_2878 Posted October 26, 2010 Author Posted October 26, 2010 cool thanks guys, i know i like fsims and i was just walking through a store when i saw lock on and bought it straight away thinking if it doesn't work on my computer i'll jut get a new one. my budget would be around 300 but it seems like the advice is wait a few months 2 c if warthog is any good?
Ragtop Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Cali put it very well, I'd take that advice. I've got a Warthog on its way so I'll be a Guinea pig for it! I can however tell you about the X-52. It's a great stick for beginners and pro's alike. It's very ergonomic and the adjustable palm rest is incredibly useful if you have small hands like I did when I first got into sims! The only gripes I have about it is that the stick is very loose. For some this is a blessing but I found it didn't give me enough feel. You can however mod it, as I have, by compressing the spring a little (all done without taking it apart atall) which stiffens it up. The only other problem is the slider and rotaries, they have a problem with precision, and the software can't make up its mind as to where they are, so you'll see a lot of jitter with them. Other than those points it's a great stick. 476th vFG Alumni

Steel Jaw Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 TM Warthog is overrated and way over priced. Succellus Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Mower is just saying that because he can t afford one and he s bitter, but he wet dream about it everynight, and he s saving for it without he s wife knowing. I can t afford it too but i am already saving for it. Its a pity my wife don t have guns like his, i find it sexy, but mine whip me hard. Don t go cougar, you don t have a reason unless you get a modded one being sold on e-bay or the like. CH is sturdy, but the rudders are to tight, it unconfortable, but stick and throttle are great even if the throttle is butt ugly and half obsolete compared to the rest of the market. Cant say anything about Saitek and the other. HaF 922, Asus rampage extreme 3 gene, I7 950 with Noctua D14, MSI gtx 460 hawk, G skill 1600 8gb, 1.5 giga samsung HD. power5 Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 I have a g940 and I find it very nice to use. Its a FFB so I do notice some notchiness at times, but made flying the Black shark so much nicer than my old center sprung stick. Also, when I trim the WH in game, I can feel the stick moving in the direction I am trimming. Very nice to know its working and what direction its going. Only other sticks I have used are Saitek all in one. Twist grip, and throttle controls on the flightstick. Not too bad and a nice cheap way to get started. I love not having to twist the stick for rudder anymore though. I was thinking of saving for the WH and selling my G940, but I am just not that sure its worth well over double the price after getting pedals. I got my g940 for $225 or something a few months ago on sale. Well worth it for sure. Cali Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 I had an X45 before I got my CH set up and loved it. But after about 6 months use, it developed bad center play. It only got worse after that, I could tell the difference weekly. So I bought Ch and gave the X45 to a friend. I heard that the X52 was better, but I haven’t really heard anything about it. Just search this site for the different HOTAS you want to use and read up on them. Then google them and see what other sites/people say. I’m not a big fan of the twist rudder, but some people like it. A few of these sticks have that. I just think it’s funny that some people are saying the Warthog is the best since sliced bread when they haven’t even put it through its paces yet. A lot of reviews talk products up big time and some of them fail miserably. Just like many people talk the cougar up and you need to pay extra to get it like it should have been. I’m not just bagging on cougars, so don’t hate me, just used it as a example…which it is a perfect one. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
Lulac Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 Yo ragazzi ! Can some one tell me if it's possible to use combination of CH stick and throttle and Saitek's pedals ? Does any one use such combination !? [sIGPIC]D:\avioni\razno\potpis 1 orao.jpg[/sIGPIC]
MTFDarkEagle Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 saitek's pedals go to the pc via usb, right? If so, it is entirely possible. Why not? You also have a mouse and keyboard on usb at the same time :) Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread

Sharkster64 Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 I use the G940 for Lockon and Black Shark. I love it. :joystick: I like the force feedback effects in lockon and I like the trimmer feedback in black shark. It also comes with the pedals. Another feature I like is the 3 position mode switch. I have 3 different aircraft programmed to the three different positions of the mode switch, so when I'm playing lockon, if I want to switch to a different aircraft, all I do is flip the switch to the desired aircraft setting. I recommend it. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Call Sign: Warhammer

How many of you have actually tried the Hog in real life and not in your wet dreams? Neither you or Mower tried it. So how do YOU know it's overrated? I have used X52 for about 3 years, and got Hog 3 days ago. So far what can I say about TM? Hardware is great. Software is mediocre (but beta, so should improve). Reliability is unknown. Is the new TM overpriced? Show me HOTAS that gives you more features for less money, then we can talk. But I agree, for a newbie TM Warthog is overkill. X-52 is very good value for money and suits every simulator.
