Yes I have tried to install it using this http://www.cubpilotshangar.net/page105.html still doesn't work. I created a system restore point before I installed the cougar also

I'm having an issue with installing my cougar on windows 7 64-bit. It installs just fine, but if I try to open the cougar control panel it gives me an error :(

"device detection error...

E2: Ensure that the device is connected and working properly."

If I unplug it and plug it back in it says device not recognized, this is the second cougar that has done this to me.

If I go into the control panel, it doesn't show up in there, it says unknown device :(

How did you guys get yours to work with windows 7 64-bit?

Cali, sorry to say but if two of the Cougars you bought both have same issue it has to be user error.

In Device Manager... do you see any devices that don't have drivers installed for them.. in fact do you see 2 of them?

For me when I install the Cougar in Windows 7 64bit... drivers install fine but the "Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar (IN)" and "Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar (OUT)" don't have driver installed and I have to manually update them... untill I do this HOTAS Cougar Control Panel will not start and will say device is not connected... so, have your done this on your end?

It sounds like you need to reflash your Cougar. To reflash, unplug the Cougar and while holding down the trigger, plug the Cougar back in. This will force a reflash. After that, Windows should recognize the unit and you should then calibrate it.

Uninstall the Software and manually delete the 'HOTAS' folder in the install directory.

Reboot.

Thereafter download the 64-bit software from here - http://ts.thrustmaster.com/eng/index.php?pg=view_files&gid=1&fid=3&pid=50&cid=1

Now unplug the Cougar and deactivate UAC in Windows Control Panel. Navigate to the .exe file downloaded from Thrustmaster and right-click to select the 'Properties' tab.

Important Step: Go to Compatibility column, in Compatiblity Mode, mark this and select 'Windows Vista (Service Pack 2)'. In bottom mark 'Execute this program with Administrator permissions'. Click OK.

Run the .exe file and follow all the prompts, ie plug the Cougar in when asked etc etc.

Reboot.

That should be you done - One file installs all drivers as well as Foxy all at once. Run Foxy and confirm that all is well.

Thx for the help guys, I have tried to flash it. I did everything you mentioned Viper, I have done this a few times. I did what Kuky said also. I'll keep trying and see what happens. As I said before, I did everything according to this site http://www.cubpilotshangar.net/page105.html

When do I plug the throttle in, in the cubpilot install procedure? After I reboot?

You need to disconnect the throttle before fluching the firmware... once firmware is flushed you can connect it again

Does anyone have the cougar install on Windows 7 64-bit ultimate this is the OS that I have. I wonder if this is the problem. Just talked to Kuky on vent and we tried a few times with no success. He has window 7 home 64-bit and it works fine for him.

You could try making a folder outside of the program files and program files x86 folders, make a folder there and install the software into that folder.

As it could be a permission problem thats causing your problem, if so, then making a new folder outside of the program files folder and installing there should fix it.

Like this, the new folder is at the bottom, if you install to there it bypasses all the usual security that controls the Program Files folder's, thus you are less likely to have/come across problems when installing stuff that hasnt been specifically made with windows 7 in mind.

I am suspecting Windows 7 Ultimate is the reason as it does have some extra features over Home edition which I and many others have.

I made sure Cali is actually the Administrator and that UAC is off... and we tried to install the Cougar software (the ones from Thrustmaster website - Vista 74bit, which I use also) into its own directory in C drive and nothing worked. Even though Cali installed driver manually for the IN and OUT Cougar device (which I have to do also) the cougar is not recognized. I have no idea why it doesn't work for him.... and its second Cougar he got so we can eliminate Cougar being faulty... it leaves the different OS version only as possible cause.

so, question stands... is there anyone that got Cougar installed on Windows Ultimate 64bit?

If it was just installing the software to see if it installed correctly, I could try that as I have win 7 ultimate 64, but, I dont have a cougar and by the looks of it the software installs fine, but it just doesnt recognise his stick.

Apart from throwing out some guesses I have no idea since I dont actually own a cougar.

I would however say to try different usb ports, but I guess that has already been tried a few times ?

Or worst case scenario, he could try and install via safe mode.

I know, its not advisable, but it can be used for things like that, just that I personally wouldnt recommend it.

Yeah I told him to try different USB Hubs and that didn't help either. Funny thing is when he installs the software he always did it with throttle disconnected... I told him the thorttle should be connected when installing and it should be disconnected only when flashing firmware.

So he tried with throttle connected and then it says the OS is not compatible... reason more I'm thinking its the Ultimate version of the Windows 7.

Also he doesn't have any Anti-virus installed.

I know this may sound dumb, but you are positive that it was the correct drivers ?

It probably was, but I have done it myself a few times where I downloaded the wrong set and only noticed halfway through the installation if it got that far.

Or maybe its the wrong set thats listed on that website you got them from ? any other place to get the drivers from ?

Also, what about plugging the devices in, going to device manager and clicking on the unkown devices that will be listed, then install the drivers through there ? as it might work that way ? I really dont know if it will or wont, its just speculation.

I think they are correct... Cali called out the name of the file and size and that he downloaded it from Thrustmaster website and it's same as mine, so I really don't know what gives

Thx for the help bumfire, Kuky is the most knowledgeable person I know when it comes to the cougar. I'll just hold on to it and when/if I get a new computer next year, I'll get windows 64-bit home, since I don't really need ultimate.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit here, no problems at all. Cougar and Foxy work fine. Also, doesn't matter if Anti-Virus (AVAST) is active or not. This is the 4th time i installed the Cougar and software on Windows 7 Ultimate on 3 different hardware setups (CPU, Mobo, RAM and GPU) and everytime it worked without a problem. So something else is playing up but what...?

Oh just a thought, is legacy USB enabled in the bios ??? also is everything related to usb enabled in the bios ?

If you have legacy usb options, enable them, as some old items wont work on newer motherboards until the legacy usb is enabled. I foudn that out the hardway when my keyboard didnt work. I could of sworn I had already enabled it, but nope I must of missed it and it annoyed me.
