51st PVO Regiment Server: Back to the 80's!

This week (May 16th to 23rd), the 51st PVO Regiment Server will go back to the 80's!

Our missions will be set during the 1980's, at a time when air-to-air fights were fought with medium ranged semi-active missiles such as the R-27R and the AIM-7. This week, you can test your skills against your opponents using R-27R's, R-27T's, R-73's, AIM-7's and AIM-9's. Players will not be allowed to use the E-versions (R-27ER, R-27ET, R-27EM), the R-77 or the AIM-120B or C.

Our missions will run special versions where the default payloads are adapted to fit the weapon restrictions. Players that violate the weapon restrictions will be automatically kicked from the server, but will be allowed to rejoin. Note that our stats page will keep track of all offenders.

'80s server sounds familiar though I witnessed a guy who not only loaded illegal payload but even killed people with it (AIM-120C). In another case yesterday I had to evade amraams as well but the guy got kicked (I suppose) after spamming a few.

Anyone who breaks the rules and fires illegal weapons will be kicked automatically by the server (there is a monitor program that checks what everyone fires, etc), this is not perfect, but it is the only way apart from enforcing a modified rearm.lua

However, one could still fire and even after he is kicked (which will happen within 3-5 secs after first illegal launch), those missiles can still do damage... but those circumstances will be limited, and any illegal incident will not be recorded on the stats records... if not then just post about it on our forums and we will sort it out!

Among other things Yoda had an option in his FC1 script which was checking the payload when a client is connecting to the server and offenders who have changed the default payload were unable to spool their engines :)

I have no clue how that could work in FC2 with it's more open lua architecture.

On the contrary, FC2 has quite a few limitations in terms of reproducing such sophisticated scripts like LRM was, and these limitations were put in place due to security concerns.

What Case has developed is as close as you are going to get to having restricted payloads without enforcing a non-standard Integrity Check, which in-turn hampers the accessibility of the server significantly.

Repeat offenders will be permanently banned and their UIDs will be shared with other server administrators, so think twice.

I have to point out that this week serves as a test to see if this strategy of restricting payloads works. Without a non-standard integrety check on payloads I have to rely on the players to get the message and play be the rules. Given that this is the first time since FC2 that, to my knowledge, any server restricts payloads, it is not surprising that players will have to get used to this.

So far only 14 pilots did not get the message and together launched 38 restricted weapons. All of them were automatically kicked from the server, but in 7 cases did the weapon actually hit a player. I am still working on the stats to remove the points awarded and taken for those kills.

Yeah tell me about it! Its been ages since ive had some decent flight time either... but that might turn around come winter holidays... :pilotfly:

As for having 80s weeks its great fun and reminds me of our old Mig-29A only missions in the old days. Sometimes its just more enjoyable when there arent any actives around...

As with all servers there are obviously going to be low periods and high periods, its at your disgretion to get on TS during the high times and make friends, then arrange flight times with said friends.

Thats about the best advice I can give, beats taking a chance and hoping someone is going to be around. ;)

Generally many people wont join a server if it's empty.

So if you go there first, you might attract a few more players - and after a little while you'll have plenty of company.

*timed out* something...

I'll try to be on our TS this evening. So if you have time we can try to sort this out and get you on the server.

Thank you very much for the assistance and a nice tour on your server

@Miro:

It's even more quiet now than on the 104th server but Case told me it's going to get more crowded later this week. Or maybe even tonight :) But there's at least two things worth choosing 51st for. The first is low PING. I got 50 ms compared to 150 on 104th. It's mainly due to the fact that I will always get lower pings to European based servers compared to US based servers like 104th.

The other thing is that there's no server messages! I didn't realize that I myself have been exploiting server messages on other servers. Plus I think it forces 51st participants to use TS.

Hmm what difference between 50ms and 150ms for landmower against AI ;] Missiles always hit targets unless it is really bad ping since 500ms and more - then sometimes targets can slide.

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

Glad I could help!

Let me repeat a point I made earlier. Many of the pilots flying on our game server belong to squadrons who will likely use their own teamspeak server instead of the 51st. So even if you see people in the game server that are not on the 51st teamspeak server, they may very well be on some other teamspeak server. So whenever you see people flying, just ask if and where they are on teamspeak, and ask if you can join them there.

In fact Low pings, i also noticed very good FPS, and no messages deploying on all of my windshield.

That's what the chat resize and reposition mod is for. :) But I like the idea of disabling it too.
