I don't know if this is in the right forum, but IS the X52 a good controller to use with the KA-50? I am just asking because I have has the X52 for a while with Black Shark, and well, I don't know what I've been doing, but it hasn't worked out for me all that well. Have any of you had success with the X52 and the Hog, or should I just purchase a Warthog controller, or better yet, make a KA-50 collective and cyclic :) .

From my experience, the X52 is a good all around stick for BS and FC2. I use the profiler for some buttons and in game settings for other buttons (trim specifically). I dont own WH so i cant speculate, but would imagine you would be happier with the WH HOTAS for the A-10.

I ahve had one for over 3 years, loved it. then I discovered the X-65f :). SO yea good stick.

my x-52 reproduces total flight control system failure when the ps2 cable gets disconnected by accident :) adds realism to the game! anyway it is the best stick for tight budget if a you call $129 a tight budget. It was not so tight budget for me when I was in college.

the x45 was good but feels a bit rustic if you compare with the x-52. If you can try some of the newer sticks.

If you suck at Black Shark with an X52, you're going to suck at Black Shark no matter what stick you get. Once you get a decent HOTAS, like the X52, your flying ability it only a function of how good of a pilot you are. I would suggest you hit the books training, watch some youtube videos, or join a squad that will train you if you want to get better.

Intelligent discourse can only begin with the honest admission of your own fallibility.

I bought an X-52 (non-pro) as a stop-gap between my dying old Cyborg and the Warthog, and I have to say it was really good value for money. Costs very little (I got mine for around 100 dollars + VAT) and has a wide selection of functions. There are some kinks in it, like buggy MFD driver and some things like that (I can freeze the driver through giving commands long names in the profiler, forcing me to reboot :P ), but those are very easy to work around.

i hated my x-52, right out of the box the second trigger diddnt work so i had to ship it to madcat games to repair that, and now the x,y axis on the joystick frequently "go out", in that it cant see the full range of motion. i dont use it anymore. even when it had no functional problems, i still hated the feel of the spring resistance.

hmm. I know some of you x52 lovers out there say that the x52 works fine for them. well, it doesn't work fine for me. I was just playing the "controlled hover" training mission, and found the center spring to make fine control adjustments impossible. If I apply to little force, the stick doesn't move and keeps me in the status quo, and if I push just a tad harder, the stick creaks and I have yet another unwanted movement from the chopper. With trimming, I press trim, try to neutralize the cyclic, and then the aircraft makes some sort of unwanted movement. This is incredibly annoying. I remember someone on here saying that if you suck with the x52, you'll suck with the hog. I don't believe that theory ( no offense :) ) They are two different sticks. the hog is far more accurate and has force feedback, allowing for you to move nothing after you trim; not the same deal with the x52. The hog, unlike MY x52 :) can make small control inputs close to the base easily. This is the reason I'm selling my x52 on ebay and getting a hog.

Get the TM Warthog. Sure, it is more expensive, but it appears to be very well built and will last forever thanks to the hall effect sensors (contactless so won't wear out). Definitely worth the money!!!

If you're flying DCS:BS though you will need additional rudder pedals.

Best regards,

Tango.

If you consider the X-52 get the PRO...its better manufactured and much more precise and takes less wear...it is also stiffer.

I had the X-52 first...it did only last two years of daly use till it made trouble.

Get the Pro Pedals too...its worth it and you can get a full HOTAS setup with Pedals for less than 350€

My next HOTAS will be the X-65, but until the X-52 is still perfoming well for two years now.

Get the TM Warthog. Sure, it is more expensive,

Try three times the price of the Saitek X52 Pro! In the UK the X52 Pro sells for around £100-110 while on Amazon the Thrusty Warthog sells for £330.

It's all a question of usage, priorities, and commitment to the DCS series. Some just can't justify spending £300 plus on a HOTAS while others may see better value in something like the X52 Pro which leaves the other £200 that would have been spent on the TM Warthog to upgrade your graphics card to a nice new DX11 card and or an SSD drive.

Both HOTAS systems offer excellent features and quality given that they are aimed at different ends of the HOTAS market.

Even if it did, which it doesn't, you'd still end up needing to center the pedals for trim.

Konovalov - and it gets even worse for price comparison when comparing to the non-pro, which has the same amount of buttons and programmability (but flimsier construction) as the pro. It costs only marginally more than a Saitek Cyborg... Now maybe the non-pro won't survive quite as rough handling as a Pro would, but after a while of use I've not found any real issues with it (except that I long for more hatswitches to use, three just ain't enough for me :P ).

O.K, so I solved the technology side of my problem in black shark. guess how I did that! I downloaded 1.01c and she flies so much more smoother now and is so easier to put in a hover. also, the trim works like it should. Now, try to side the part of the problem on MY side. Cheers!

1.0 used the simple "you press the trim, that's your new center" method on the Ka-50.

1.01 still had the "old" trim as an option but the new optional trimmer mechanization made it so after each trim press you had to relax the controllers to the "center window" before the aircraft would respond to the joystick any more. The idea is that by forcing the user to return stick to center before giving back control the process would be smoother and without the possibility of extreme jumps in input level.
