Nickhawk Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 (edited) Hi i have a question, i didnt found it in the manual in the TGP section. So do anybody know what the "M1" and "10" on the TGP display means? (red circle) seems like it never changes to another value, but what is it good for, must be a vital information if it is displayed directly on the MFD? KillaALF Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 The "M" stands for "masked" meaning that your airframe/weapons obstruct the LOS of the TGP.
Nickhawk Posted November 25, 2010 Author Posted November 25, 2010 (edited) The "M" stands for "masked" meaning that your airframe/weapons obstruct the LOS of the TGP. what you are meaning is the "M" in the right corner that apears when masked. Look at my pictures, i mean the "M1" in the left up corner of the MFD and the number "10" both marked with red cirles, thats not the masked-M and they are allways shown. KillaALF Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Ah sorry, you're right of course. Yeah, the manual does not explain those figures.
Lixma 06 Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Yep the 10 seems to indicate the station number. I loaded a pair of pods on each side to see what would happen. The indicator said 2 for both MFDs and I couldn't figure out a way of having both pods display their images. Shame really, I had this vision of me flying around in some sort of TERRIBLE METAL CHAMELEON. No idea what the M1 is for.
Frederf Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 (edited) It wouldn't have anything to do with Mode 1 IFF transponder status/activity would it? Perhaps it's for interrogating IFF directed along the TGP LOS. It shows up for the GND page but not the STBY or AA pages. Perhaps M1 refers to some sort of flight recording equipment recording the MFCD video? Maybe the LITENING has the capability of several modes? Edited November 25, 2010 by Frederf

blaha Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 I loaded a pair of pods on each side to see what would happen. Wait... you loaded two targeting pods? Does the loadout editor let you create custom loads? I thought it was just the pre-designed loadouts to choose from. Frederf Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 I wonder if the masking knowledge of the TGP includes deployable stores and if it changes as they are dropped.
Lixma 06 Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 The use of profiles suggests that masking is non-dynamic. i.e. Even though you've dropped the big, fat LGB, the Pod still gives an M indication even though it has a clear LOS.
Steel Jaw Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Laser mask zone profile number. Ok, but what is it used for, what does it mean? Lixma 06 Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 In use, as the plane manoeuvres the TGP laser will inevitably end up pointing at the aircraft/weapons/sensors/pilot. Not a good thing. The masking zones tell the targeting laser where not to fire. A variety of masking profiles will be available depending on type of aircraft, where on the aircraft the TGP is located, weapons loadout etc. I think.
