skypirate Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 While we wait for the Beta 5 here is an idea: A contest for screenshot with the worst battle damage which an A-10 can survive. I suggest the image should follow the criteria*: airplane landed and static on the runway; at least main wheels down and locked; pilot alive with the canopy open after the landing; no other vehicles in the area; obvious battle damage (the worse, the better); *and this can be subject to community discussion And here is mine #1 screenshot: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]Regards!
latearrival Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 And here is mine #1 screenshot: You've made me curious... You landed an A-10 with one wing - is ED accurate or inaccurate in making that possible? Google "f-15 one wing" and there's a well documented case of an F-15 landing with one wing. But an A-10? Windows 10 | i5 2500k @ 4.4Ghz | MSI GTX 970 4GB | 8GB RAM | ASRock P67 Extreme4 | Seasonic X-Series 650W PSU | Oculus Rift DK2 | CH Fighterstick, Throttle & Pedals
Boberro Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Well, I landed with 1\3 wing of Su-25T too, so maybe it is possible, but here we don't have 1\3 but about 1\4-1\5. I doubt it is doable... Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
OB1 Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 I think they need to work on their damage model, a friend of mine had a rough landing.. but still landed without both wings... strange but I found it harder to fly without one horizontal and vertical stabilizer than without 1 wing.... 1
skypirate Posted January 15, 2011 Author Posted January 15, 2011 (edited) I think they need to work on their damage model, a friend of mine had a rough landing.. but still landed without both wings... strange but I found it harder to fly without one horizontal and vertical stabilizer than without 1 wing.... Had that one too*.. Very stable level flight and lateral control with differential throttles. The problem came on the final approach when I dropped the gear and lost too much airspeed. Apparently it turned out that the stall speed without 2 wings is well beyond 200 knots... Needless to say that I landed upside-down (so it doesn't count for the contest :) ) *check the attached pic and note the Mav bug - missiles still hanging there - but that was mentioned already somewhere else. Steel Jaw Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Skypirate your pic is a laugh. "You see, IronHand is my thing" My specs: W10 Pro, I5/11600K o/c to 4800 @1.32v, 64 GB 3200 XML RAM, Red Dragon 7800XT/16GB, monitor: GIGABYTE M32QC 32" (31.5" Viewable) QHD 2560 x 1440 (2K) 165Hz.
skypirate Posted January 15, 2011 Author Posted January 15, 2011 Hahaha... I know.. I guess it's an amusing way to waste time until the B5 (and the soon the RC) knock on our doors. And by the way I have more of those but much more shameful.. So let's see what you've got guys ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]Regards!
Steel Jaw Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 On the RC question: I am *hoping* it is a ways off as there are some unresolved issues needing attention...unless they could be addressed in follow-on patching I suppose...since IO know DCS needs to get a RC to generate more sales revenue. power5 Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Whats most unbelievable is that it looks like the wing just fell off. No collateral damage at all. Left side looks perfect except the missing wing. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Aaron i7 2600k@4.4ghz, GTX1060-6gb, 16gb DDR3, T16000m, Track IR5 BS2-A10C-UH1-FC3-M2000-F18C-A4E-F14B-BF109
skypirate Posted January 15, 2011 Author Posted January 15, 2011 Well, the leading edge slat is missing too... The tires blew because the only way to stop on time was to pull the emergency brake handle and jump on the pedals. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]Regards!
tdar Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 did this yesterday. It was a massive pain, stick was all the way to the left!
power5 Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Yeah, but whatever can blow off an entire wing would surely have more collateral. Though can not see the bottom of the plane. I have lost rear stab and as stated by others, its much harder to control than simply loosing an entire wing. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Aaron i7 2600k@4.4ghz, GTX1060-6gb, 16gb DDR3, T16000m, Track IR5 BS2-A10C-UH1-FC3-M2000-F18C-A4E-F14B-BF109

skypirate Posted January 16, 2011 Author Posted January 16, 2011 Niiice :) Lost an engine and a tail - must have been hairy... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]Regards!
Tekken Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Yep, a very intense feeling. I had to go about 40 miles to get home, the landing was a breathtaking experience at 150 kias. I am reading "Warthog - Flying the A-10 in the Gulf War" at the moment. It gives me a very little idea of what real A-10 pilots must have felt in this kind of situation. Aylward Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 (edited) Does this count ?? Edited January 17, 2011 by Aylward [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] please... please... please... let the next DCS module be an F-18 fighter aircraft :worthy:
