Slammin Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Why is it that the biggest detractors of the WH don't even own one? Threads like these just seem to attract them like flies. SonofEil Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 (edited) I'll quote myself in response to a skeptic from a different thread. (Also, there are TM WH calibration utilities in that thread if anyone needs them.) Whoa. I like my WH waaaaay more than my X52pro. I spent many hours trying to smooth over that bump when the second spring engaged on the stick, and I was never able to get rid of that "springy" feel. The WH stick is considerably smoother, like butter, but still takes a small amount of muscle to move. You have to be deliberate, which I think is good. Now that mine's calibrated, I'm extremely pleased. It's also built like a home defense weapon. You seriously have no idea how solid it feels until you actually handle one. Perfect? Absolutely not! (It's not out of line to advise a wait-and-see approach due to the number of people reporting the throttle frying itself.) Worth $500? Well, that's debatable. Best out-of-box HOTAS out there? Easily. Steel Jaw Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Why is it that the biggest detractors of the WH don't even own one? Simple: I have owned every HOTAS TM made and they all had issues related to design and/or manufacturing problems. The Cougar is a cluster foxtrot. TM has not EARNED my blind faith. :P The FECKERS should send me a Hog for free. 3poch Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 I'm on the fence about getting one also. I saw one on display at a store. The stick felt fantastic. It was dense and felt indestructible. Much better that X52. But I was surprised how flimsy the throttles felt. There was a lot of play they felt cheap and fragile. And the buttons on the throttles felt like you could break them. I did not get to try it with any games, they were just anchored to a shelf. But, I'm still on the fence. VERY high premium!

Slayer Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 I bought one and don't regret it a bit. The days of spiky pots are gone for good. I updated the firmware no problems. It's the best stick I have ever owned and I've owned pretty much every higher end stick out there made by CH, Saitek, MS, logitech and TM except the cougar( tried but didnt like) and X65( held out for a WH). I had real trepidation about buying it because the TM F-22 pro gave me carpal tunnel from the stiff springs in it but this is nothing like those older sticks. Not intentionally trying to imply you are another anti-WH ghoul, but, hey. I have everything either velcro'd or screwed down so I cannot tell which weighs the most but I think the throttle is heavier. As far as the buttons on the throttle, they seem solid as heck to me. You would have to be in a fit of rage to break a toggle switch. Play in the throttle? Well, they are split throttles. I've read where users have posted that the throttles have some lateral wiggle. The forward-backward movement of the throttle feels almost like they put hydraulics and dampeners in them. It's really a good feel. I have no complaints. 100% kudos to TM on everything about the throttle. I think your post is debunked. Try again. Like I said Im very impressed with the stick. But not so much with the throttles. The throttle base feels very solid but not the throttles themselves. I went to that store specifically because they had a display WH so that I could form an impression before plunking down 500 bucks on something that seems to be experiencing a few technical difficulties. I'm not hating on it at all as I don't own it. It was a very simple first impression. Thank you for debunking my post. You are very clever. Edited January 27, 2011 by 3poch 1

Nice pretty lakes with pike and... ah crap... giant fricking mosquitos in clouds so thick you can hear them homing in on you from 10 miles away. Other than that ummm..... ok I give up :P But back on topic... oh, you guys know that the 20+ pages of posts about people with dying throttles right beside this topic akes one realize that there are a HELL of a lot more people having that problem that just 1 or 2 percent. Sure the majority of users are probably just fine, but a claim of 2% is unrealisticly low to the extreme. I will consider buying the TM Warthog myself when all you guinea pigs finish beta testing it for me :smilewink: Edited January 27, 2011 by Speed Intelligent discourse can only begin with the honest admission of your own fallibility. Slammin Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 I actually only use the WH throttle. I'm still using my old (modded) Cougar stick with it though, instead of the WH stick. The WH stick feels good, I just prefer, and am used to THIS Cougar stick. But........... If you are into DCS-A10, you are really missing something special right now if you don't at least have the TM Hog throttle. You just may have to experience it to understand it. Pretty awesome to me. SonofEil Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 (edited) +1 I heart Canada! (Mower, it sounds like this winter's been tough on you! You're "fecking" all over the place tonight!) And on topic. I also noticed some, um, unexpected "lateral wiggle" in my WH throttles. I wouldn't go so far as to say they feel cheap or flimsy, but it doesn't feel like they have the same attention to construction as the stick. But, again, I'm very happy with mine! Sure the majority of users are probably just fine, but a claim of 2% is unrealisticly low to the extreme. I don't agree. A quick search in the serial number Sticky shows 4500+ sold. I'm guessing that they're dealing with a problem in the neighborhood of 0.5%, but that's just a guess. (As an aside. I don't know TM's sales figures vs. returns/replacements, but even a 0.5% defect rate in the manufacturing industry is an enormous QC failure. 0.001% or better is a realistic goal for most applications, new product or not.) JIMJAM Posted January 27, 2011 Author Posted January 27, 2011 I plan to use both the trusty and cheap X52 for FSX and the WH for A-10. I fly alot of helis and that requires a constant stick forward which quickly wears pot out. I think thats how I went through so many TM stick parts. This is what I did to keep my stick planted. I used double sided sticky tape, you know the kind thats glot a little bit of foam and you peel off both sides. I used that and stuck the stick to a thin plastic cutting board that left about 3 inches all around. This increased the footprint to stabilize it and I also can sit it on my lap. Btw I am on my 3rd Pyramat gaming chair, no not the on the floor console gaming one but the one that has 4 legs. Has speakers in the head area and a bass in the ass. Crank that sucker up and its hard to focus on the screen when you pull the trigger! Ok coffee jolt has worn off.
