Burnerski Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Is anyone running an eyefinity 5x1P setup ? Thanks, Danny
Burnerski Posted February 28, 2011 Author Posted February 28, 2011 (edited) Wow!! Just you and I are running Warthog in a 5x1P setup. I can't believe people are still running flight sims on a single screen. I'm currently running 5 24" 1200x1900 monitors for a total resolution of 6392x1920. Combine that with Track IR and the immersion is stunning. I'm not stating this to impress I'm trying to inform serious flight simmers. It's not that expensive to get a 5 screen setup today. An ATI eyefinity 6 card is $270.00 and 22" screens can be had for less than $150.00 apiece or used off EBay for less. I'll never go back to single screen. Edited February 28, 2011 by Burnerski
DTWD Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 1200x1900? Surely you mean 1920x1200? Anyway, can we have pics please? Regards [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

DTWD Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Sweet, I had envisaged the monitors in landscape. Do you find the bezels getting in the way? Regards [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Burnerski Posted February 28, 2011 Author Posted February 28, 2011 Sweet, I had envisaged the monitors in landscape. Do you find the bezels getting in the way? Not at all because with TrackIR you just move your head a little to see or place the mouse.
PoleCat Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Very nice setup you have there Burnerski. So much bezel just bothers me. It is why I dont even use my triple monitors 22" 28" 22" in game as a rule. For me even a half inch of bezel is too distracting. http://www.104thphoenix.com/
BHawthorne Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 With the new AMD cards being released there have been sales on the 5870 Eyefintiy 6. I got my second one from Newegg on sale for $180. There is also a 6870 Eyefinity 6 coming out too along with the new 6990. Not sure yet if the 6990 can do 5x1P yet though. My particular displays are Samsung 245BW 1920x1200 for around $230 each, so I'm also 1920x1200 displays too.

Burnerski Posted March 1, 2011 Author Posted March 1, 2011 The 3 center monitors I got off Ebay. Two are Gateway 2401's and the other is a Samsung 2493hm. The outside monitors are Dell U2410's. I took the plastic outer covers off the three center monitors for a thinner bezel, I decided not to do that on the Dells since they are $500.00 each.

Burnerski Posted March 2, 2011 Author Posted March 2, 2011 No I haven't tried to export the MFD's. I can see and operate them at the current zoom per the picture, that may not be the case with a lower res or smaller monitor. Occasionally when trying to pick out a target I want to get a little closer to the MFD so I configured TrackIR with a slight Z axis "zoom". I'm still tweeking TrackIR to find what works best.
BHawthorne Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Sweet, I had envisaged the monitors in landscape. Do you find the bezels getting in the way? No, then it would be 5x1L, not 5x1P. :music_whistling: The bezels are no more in the way than 3x1L imho.
Evader Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 (edited) Hey 5x1P guys. I've been thinking of that, because I like the vertical you get in portrait mode. What percentage of your cockpit view do you see in the monitors next to the center one. I have a 30" 2560x1600 main screen, and was thinking of getting 2 20" 1600x1200 and put them in P mode. That way I have the big screen for cockpit and fighting without benzels and the two side screens for side vision. Damn 4:3 1600x1200 LCD's are hard to find these days though and pricy. Before I drop money on any I have an old 20" and a 19" to test it out to see if I really want it. It would give me 4960 x 1600 res, about 8Mpixels. I love the detail I get on my 2560x1600 res and with my 51 year old eyes I need all the f...ing detail I can get. Thanks for any input, really interested in this. Edit: I seen your pic, not sure I like the cockpit split on three monitors, I'll try 3x1 first. Edited March 11, 2011 by Evader

Try to live out of USA and well talk again about cheap... Anyway nice settings. If i had this kind of oportunity though, i would go 2 for instruments with helios and 3 vertical as you did. Right now i m trying to sort if i buy a 32" 1080p TV, and set my 22 monitor to instruments or if i go a 27" monitor + my 22 as instrument. 32" TV and 27" monitor are the same price. But 32 TV would allow 2 others smaller monitors vertically on the side for a futher future. The doubt, the doubt... BHawthorne Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 It's been confirmed the 6990 is 5x1P capable. At least that gives a current generation card and an upgrade route to those that might have 5870 E6's. I'm currently quite happy with my 5870 E6's though, so no hurry for new hardware for me.

P1KW Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 (edited) Hello. I have a 5x1P in 6990. It is the best solution ... With 3x1L, the vertical viewing angle is too narrow. With 3x1P, the vertical viewing angle is improved, but is lacking peripheral vision. I like more than 3x1L. 5x1L is just perfect. Combines the best of both modes. The bezels do not obstruct the vision. You get used quickly. The only drawback is to read text strings. Greetings. Edited August 4, 2011 by P1KW "If adventure is dangerous, try the routine. Jinja Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Could one of you 5x1P people do a Youtube video of the sim in action? I'm well interested. But I have a question, instead of 5x 24" portrait, how about 3 x 40" TVs? Wouldn't that give at least the same size, with less bezels? i7@3.5Ghz, ATI 5870, 16GB RAM, win7 64bit, TH2GO, Track-IR, 4screen pit, TM WArthog HOTAS
