GBS Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 I just purchased. I have an old Microsoft jotstick and wanted to see what might be suggested here to upgrade to. I'm looking for value....best for the money. Thanks.
rexehuk Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 X52. Easily over a hundred buttons on that joystick ( 3 modes + PINKIE modifier)
Para_Bellum Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 I have a difficult time not recommending the HOTAS Warthog. For many years I didn't think there would be a worthy replacement for my MS SWFF2, but the Warthog is just that good IMO.
kingpinda Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 X52. Easily a couple of hundred buttons on that joystick ( 3 modes + PINKIE modifier) If so be sure to buy the pro. I was not at all happy with my old saitek X52. Spring strength made it impossible to make tiny adjustments around center. both joystick and throttle are always good ideas. But everyone has their own brand they like best. I for instance am quite quite happy with my logitech g940. Forcefeedback HOTAS (hands on throttle and stick) plus pedals. Its a bit more expensive though. But the cheapest pedals you can buy are about 80 to 100 euro's also. The Logitech goes for about 260 euro's easily. Then there is the TM Warthog if you got the money. The cool part is that its modeled.. you guessed it like the real stick in the a-10. I'm not too familiair with cougar and such but most people like those sticks alot also :p If I were you I'd be looking on the internet for these brands and compare reviews.
acerus77 Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Should be definateley some kind of HOTAS. I am using now an old Logitech Joystick with 1 Cooliehat.... Eight Ball Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 (edited) Hello, I also had an old microsoft joystick for years, I've recently bought a ThrustMaster hotas...T.flight X for €30. Sure it's not the joystick's Rolls Royce but hes doing his job pretty well. For what I've heard Saitek is making great joystick and of course there is the TM Hotas Warthogs which is probably the best one so far but it's expensive. It depends of your budget, if it's under €50 mine is a good choice, if it's +/- €100 I think you should go for the Saitek X52 and if you have no limits well there's the Warthogs for +/- €380 But I'm not an expert. Toxe Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 My suggestion would be a Thrustmaster Warthog or Saitek X52 Pro.
MTFDarkEagle Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 If you are willing (and able off course) go for the Warthog! If not, x52 pro. Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread
Dominoes Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 I'm using a g940 and love it, but the warthog would be better for this game. Dcs A-10th doesn't take much advantage of ff.
Napa Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 If you can't afford the HOTAS Warthog then I would suggest the X-52 pro or X-65 with a Logitech G series keyboard to compensate the workload. 104th_Cobra Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 I just purchased. I have an old Microsoft jotstick and wanted to see what might be suggested here to upgrade to. I'm looking for value....best for the money. Thanks. I'm trying not to go on a HOTAS for now. I'm using a T.16000M and as I used some other joysticks for years, including a MS Sidewinder and a friend's T.flight X, I assure you that the T.16000 it's a hell of a low budget buy, under 50$/€. It uses the same technology as the Warthog. For now I'm mapping the TMS, DMS, Boat and China with combinations of CTRL,Shift,Alt+hat switch. Compare: http://www.thrustmaster.com/product.aspx?ProductID=153&PlatformID=5 http://www.thrustmaster.com/product.aspx?ProductID=221&PlatformID=5 I'm also using ppjoy + freetrack and it works with 64 bit as a clock: no money spent on trackir. 104th Cobra [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
automag928 Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 My x52 has served me well enough to not spend money on a Warthog HOTAS, and allows me to get other things like TrackIR and am looking for the Cougar MFDs. If I bought the Warthog, I'd blow the budget and not have anything else. So I'd say for the value/bang for the buck factor a x52 or x52 pro setup will be your best bet.
automag928 Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 x-52 is nice, but I do not like that one lever for throttle. it's good only for F-16. True but the OP mentioned which joystick with the best value...I dont think you can get a split throttle for anything under $250.00 where the x52 can be found for around $80. That extra money could goto TrackIR and a set of Cougar MFDs :)
Raven68 Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 I currently have a Saitek X-45, but looking to upgrade in the very near future myself. I have my eyes on the X-65F. To me it's comparable to the HOTAS Warthog and maybe a $100-$150 cheaper, depending on where you get it from. http://www.buy.com/prod/saitek-pro-flight-x-65f-combat-control-system-for-pc-usb/q/loc/108/214664540.html Here is video to break down some of the neat features of the X-65F Intel i5-9600K @ 3.7GHz Gigabyte Z370XP SLI Mobo G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 2070 8GB 256-Bit GDDR6(Assume the latest driver version) Thermaltake Water 3.0 Certified Liquid Cooling System Windows 10 Professional Oculus Rift-S /TrackIR 5 in case VR dies Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog w/ Thrustmaster T-Flight Rudder Pedals
CLINTAN Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Went from a X52 pro to the TM Warthog and I dont regret the choice but it's always about the money if you cant afford the TM go for the X52 Pro.
tintifaxl Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 I use the Logitech G940 and like it very much. I bought this HOTAS because it has force feedback and a split throttle and I'm more focused on WW2 aviation. Before that I had X52 Pro where the rudder control went bad after a year of slight use - sadly out of warranty. I would chose the G940 over the X52 Pro everytime. To get a better overview, read this very well done article: http://www.simhq.com/_technology2/technology_094a.html As for the TM Warthog, read about the bricking throttle problem here in the forum and decide for yourself if you want to take the risk. If that problem is solved, it certainly is awesome for DCS:A-10! Windows 10 64bit, Intel i9-9900@5Ghz, 32 Gig RAM, MSI RTX 3080 TI, 2 TB SSD, 43" 2160p@1440p monitor.
S77th-konkussion Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 In general- be sure that the short list of sticks you choose from have the HATS you will need to program. TMS, DMS, CHINA, COOLIE, BOAT, and CMS Obviously- the WH is a replica A10 HOTAS-therefore unmatched for real controls & feel. TM support has long left a lot to be desired, but it seems they are trying to bring that around. Even if they don't communicate those efforts worth a damn.. The latest drivers have apparently fixed a lot of the stupidity built into that thing initially. Expensive- no rudders. Target software sucks- but I don't think you need it for DCS A10.. Prices seem to be dropping some.. CH products- Top quality- nearly unbreakable. Fighterstick perfect replica for A10 short of dual stage trigger. Throttle is not- but works spectacularly. Single axis. Missing individual China & Boat hats. CH Manager software is not easy for a noob at first- but outstanding. I have ALL the same controls as a WH programmed on mine. The 2 missing 2-way controls-CHINA & BOAT- are combined onto 1 HAT. Support- outstanding. Overall- very light feel. I'd like more effort to be there- but it doesn't bother me at all. Rudders- same excellent quality- but spaced too closely, light operational feel, butt ugly compared to others. They are not authentic looking military pedals. Saitek- Get the Pro or the X65. Stock X52 waay under equipped. All 3 of my Saiteks broke within a year's use. They can keep em as far as I'm concerned. Replace your Saitek HOTAS one time and you've easily exceeded the cost of a 3 piece CH HOTAS that will likely never break. Logitech- They made a nice aesthetic effort. That's about it from what I've seen. Alrighty then. Buh bye. [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=43337&d=1287169113[/sIGPIC]

RAF74_Raptor Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 I have to admit the only worthwhile succesor to the MSFFB2 is the Warthog. I love Mine I came I saw I got blown up by a SA-8:pilotfly: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] http://www.firstfighterwing.com/forums/content.php
Sabadin Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Chiming in another X52 to TM Warthog here, was like a night and day difference. Granted I also already had usb rudder pedals so losing that feature was no issue. Honestly though, this thing is worth every penny to me.
S77th-konkussion Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Sold separately- like CH's. But worth specific mention because of the WH's $450-$500 USD price tag. All 3 CH pieces can be purchased for about $275 or so... Oooh I see pedals have actually dropped.. a lot.. Mine were about $109 a couple years ago. Maybe something new on the horizon.. http://www.provantage.com/~880CHPD1.htm [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=43337&d=1287169113[/sIGPIC]
Revvin Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 As far as I know there are no new pedals coming from CH, that price is just an absolute bargain
