I found out that my HOTAS warthog throttle has a nice unused friction slider that is configurable.

I mapped it to the zoom function. It works fantastic, being able to instantly zoom towards the HUD or other place in the cockpit. :)

The center detente is the normal zoom position, so you can feel where the normal zoom is.

Anyone else has a good function for this slider?

Brakes, rudder for anyone who doesn't have pedals, zoom :P

I'm a bit surprised there's something on the HOTAS that isn't used in DCS, mind you. Is it something that exists in the Hog but isn't modeled in the sim, or an extra slider they added because they had room?

That slider is unused and actually they added another one doing the same thing.

But the orignial friction slider had a really small movement angle while the one they added (some sort of roll) can be turned 10 times around its axis.

Just a little FYI, the paddle on the stick and the mic switch up and in is unused as well. If you use the paddle as a modifier, everything is free and available to program.

Example I use:

- paddle and throttle coolie hat down as a HUD Snap view

- paddle and NWS button as Eject

^Great tip indeed. I have mapped my pinky paddle to function as a modifier as well.

Is the Zoom function also handy if you're already using a TIR setup?

Yskonyn - I find it handy with my TIR setup. I use the paddle and the Mic switch forward to zoom in and the paddle and Mic switch back to default view.

I like the eject setup Panther has suggested.

Here are 2 more unmapped controls available to you on your TM Warthog:

SLEW CONTROL IN---DX Assignment Throttle Button #1

MIC SWITCH IN---DX Assignment Throttle Button #2

I use the up mic switch as the PTT assignment for Teamspeak. Made sense since thats the switch that controls communications. :) Once more of my squardron have A-10 will get the TARS mod for Teamspeak.

Hi!

This is something I have been wanting to do, can you explain exactly how you do that? Is it in DCS or in TARGET and how? I would appreciate very much!

thanks

In DCS I fly jets with thousands of pounds of thrust...

In real life I fly a humble Cessna Hawx XP II with 210 HP :D

You can do it either way, but if you want to assign commands to control track-ir, teamspeak and so forth I think TARGET would be the way to go.

Not sure how you can do it with TARGET (I don't use target, except for the black shark. I don't see the point using it for the a-10c), but it's very easy in DCS: in the controls section at the bottom you just look for a button called "modifiers". And there you are :)

Thanks, I got it!

Very practical!

Gives us a whole new bunch of commands available at our fingertips!

I used DCS to program it. I'm not going to try to reinvent the wheel with a DCS A-10C Warthog profile in Target, really enjoy the plug-n-play feature.

I use the paddle and the Mic switch forward to zoom in and the paddle and Mic switch back to default view.

I like that idea too!

One down side to the edits / additions; you may lose them with a patch. Wonder if saving the files to carry forward would cause any issues? I've remapped my CH MFP's more times that I would have liked with the beta patches and final patches.

Some might say I'm a heretic but I've remapped the 4 upper switches of the throttle console (ENG Fuel Low & ENG oper) to master arm switch, GunArm switch, laser and TGP.

I've been playing for 2 months and I've just never used those switches, now I use them a lot more :)

I hope for your sake that you remember the keyboard commands for those functions you swapped when the dung hits the fan! ;)
