In the last couple of days I've been working on my UFC setup... A very tedious build , but impossible without a laser!

I'm re-working the Rocker buttons and waiting for my switches to come in the mail. I will be using a Leo Bodnar board for electronics.

Very nice!!

What's that made of? mdf?? Is the top open for access or another reason? What type of switches you going with?

Pardon all the questions.... just very curious how others are building their parts. :D

I just finished the assembly of my UFC tonight and I'm also using one of Leo's boards. Right now it looks more like it's intended for Wonder Woman's invisible jet as it's made all from clear acrylic and needs painting.

The main box is laser cut mdf and the panels/buttons are acrylic.

Switches... I'm using a cheap mom push buttons that screw to a switch mount board inside... easy to replace and work on! The opening will have a cover, but it is for maintenance down the road.

Overall the cost is pretty low, but the buttons take all the time.

I should have it all finished and working by next weekend.

Doing the same with my switches. Picked up a couple dozen mini-pushbuttons from Radio Shack and have them mounted in a piece of acrylic at the moment. I thought I may make a switch plate out of some .0625" aluminum, but I won't do that unless the acrylic plate doesn't hold up. So far it's doing great and the less I have to cut aluminum, the better. :D

Youve got a laser attached to your cnc?

I am having a think about what panels I might want to try on my cnc but that also adds to the clutter around the pit where helios is managing to keep things straight for me. Of course if I was building a replica it would be a different story!

Nice works btw.

Also, I was thinking about having a few kits available if someone wants one.

I can't to sell them all the time, but can do a few here and there.

Basically you would get the laser cut mdf structure (un -built), buttons painted and engraved- you will need to glue the backs on ( flange ), and engraved face plate. Also, you will need to add your own electronics and do the wiring. I have a link to the switches where I bought for mine. If you want it backlit, then buy a phidgets 64, we will have it working in Helios soon.

let me know if there is any interest,

thanks

Flim,

I'd be interested.

I think its a great piece of kit and not scared of doing the electronics... Yet!

Do you have PCB designs too that could be used for the PCB for the switches?

What would be the price? I guess its USD so do you know what the postage to the UK would be?

Thanks in Advance,

Jase.

I don't have a pcb for this one, even though I could get one done for it... I think is much easier this way. You might spend a little time soldering switches to leo's board, but it is not hard at all. Just takes a little time.

Also, this way is cheaper then going with a pcb, and if you get a bad switch down the road, it will be easy to replace!

Price... I still trying to see how much time it takes to build... I'm saying around $150 plus ship. The buttons take a lot of time to cut/paint/engrave... etc

I don't have equipement to do all the cutting and engraving. I guess I can handle some glueing and soldering, so I'm very much interested. Would like to build some panels with switches first though. Got any ETA on those ?

Hello all ,

here are some more pics of my UFC... I'm still working on getting my backlighting going, but should be soon. This version backlights very easy!!!

I have 3 kits ready to go for $169 plus ship. Just shoot me a PM if interested. The package is small and light, so International shipping should be fairly cheap via USPS.

kit includes laser cut mdf structure (un -built)/with switch mount, buttons painted and engraved- you will need to glue the backs on ( flange ), and engraved face plate/top cover. Also, you will need to add your own electronics and do the wiring. I have a link to the switches where I bought for mine. switches... I ordered 40 , a few extras just in case!

Nicely done. Is the light bleed I see a function of the camera?

ya, a little camera and little bleed from the button flanges. Always looks better in person.

Pretty much matches the TM Mfd's in look when backlit.
