RodBorza Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 I'd much rather have a minute longer load time if that means the next hour or so of flight time is more stable +1, Agreed! This is an amazing sim! 'Nuff said!:pilotfly: YouTube: SloppyDog

kam Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Will the patch be integrated into the 1.1.0.6 version on the website? To save me downloading 1.1.0.6 again and then downloading the patch. SY_KO Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Grats ED team... sounds like a good patch and certainly worth the extra weeks wait. Just wish I could install and test it!!!! mtuckner Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Awesome ED! Thanks so much. I am still downloading the patch via my country bumpkin internet connection. Less than an hour to go!
El_Roto Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 I'm running Windowed Mode and my fps went from 30 to WOW after I patched. I turned everything up (except water) and now I have frames in the 50s with no stuttering at airports, no appreciable loss when TGP and Mav are selected and smooth as silk flying when in the weeds around towns. I've not seen any pauses at weapon impact; I unloaded a whole combat mix into Sleepy Hollow (any old town) watching impacts from either F6 or TGP and it was smooth. No appreciable MP time yet, though. XarBat Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Haven't tried the new patch yet, due to a dead GTX 280, but I looked at the change log. I really don't like this one: "The yellow cross cursor will be hidden if inactive for more than five seconds". I can transition from using my USB HOTAS to clicking on things faster if the cursor is always visable. I hope there is an option to have it always visable.
Frostiken Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 I've noticed the first mission of Devil's Cross has changed *a lot*. The cloud cover is gone (honestly it made that mission really unique, but at the same time, it was so shitty I guarantee you there wouldn't have been that many air assets around as there were), you start with a better armament, the JTAC is now on an FM frequency, you start outside of a PAS, I assume all the AI pathing is fixed... let's see how it goes :) It does *not* appear that the fire handle lights have been fixed. ScEBlack1 Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 could you explain were to do this Hassatta, thanks
StrongHarm Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 I believe (hope) hassata meant "make sure you are NOT running Aero Theme". http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/disable-aero-on-windows-vista/ It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm

Turning off aero disables some directx items that Helios and hawgtouch need to work at their best. StrongHarm Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 If a third party app tells you that you need Aero I won't argue with them.. I am certain however, that Aero is a resource hog. It affects more than just how your desktop wall paper looks. Disable it and watch your resources. As for me, 'Windows Basic' effects are just fine. I don't need to view animations in AltTab windows or while dragging and dropping. When giving advise on performance consider the wider audience. It's easy to steer people down the wrong path. Sarge55 Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Actually, I don't use either Helios or Hawgtouch but I do run in windowed mode as I export the MFCD's to a second monitor. When I activated Aero to see if there was a difference it was an 8- 10 FPS increase. I think it has something to do with running in windowed mode not necessarily Helios and Hawgtouch although they would obviously benefit as well. hassata Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 (edited) could you explain were to do this Hassatta, thanks Control Panel>Personalization>Select an Aero Desktop Theme. Definitely confirmed Strongharm-should be added to FAQ. Plain vanilla install, Windowed Mode, Aero Theme results in 10 to 30 more FPS across the board as compared with no Aero, this according to all who have tried and reported back. Gadroc and I believe Airdog (edit: sorry, PigPen) happened upon this. I myself picked up 15 more FPS in-cockpit, and 30 more in HUD-only. Absolute game changer, but only applies to Windowed Mode. StrongHarm Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Yes, Aero allows DX enhanced rendering in active and non-active windows (that aren't in fullscreen). That's why Helios says to activate it. In fullscreen you'll get 10-15 by disabling Aero. It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm

connos Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Great patch less stuttering. I observe longer loading times and I get pauses when bombing low, not always. Speed Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Other than the longer loading times, the new patch is very good. A few small freezes here and there. An apparent bug with the altitude of a TAD tasking target (not sure on this one yet)... But overall, so far, A+ for the patch!!!! I need a new sig, cuz it looks like I will actually be able to have fun with A-10 again. Intelligent discourse can only begin with the honest admission of your own fallibility. bartleby Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 I was lucky enough to not have too many problems before, but definitely enjoying the datalink stuff. I've noticed that alt-tabbing seems to be a lot slower after patching, though - related to the texture loading, maybe? DCS Wiki! :book:
