I can say I have had them all except for the x65. The warthog beats them all, the one I used the most prior to the warthog was the CH gear and I got the 940 before the warthog to see if I would like it and possibly save me some $$ as it was ~ $220usd at the time.

I didn't much like the 940 for the FFB or the buttons so I decided to sell it for near what I bought it for and get the warthog. In New Zealand you are looking at near a cool grand or over $700usd. You live with it, thats just the pricing in this part of the world.

I would never buy it if it was just for one game. I can never accept the rationale that a copy of a real plane is no good for any other plane yet something some company made up is going to be good for everything?

I think the millions spent on research to develop these systems means that we are getting a good ergonomic stick that's going to work great for everything.

I also find it strange that you dont consider the CH stick in that useless category yet it is also an a-10 replica. Then you say that all you wish you had was a split throttle - just like the warthogs. In fact I think you said you would buy it if it was sold separately.

So, tell me what is the difference between a warthog throttle paired with a ch fighterstick and the full warthog package. Just One button and a dual stage trigger. Is that one button and a dual stage trigger the difference between your nirvana and being a totally useless hotas for any other game?

I dont get it?

It's worked in every game I have used, feels great - basically the same size as the CH stick without the huge base. Metal beats the plastic feel for sure.

Just bought a warthog 5 days ago even though my cougar is in perfect shape .....the warthog stick with the hall sensor alone if worth the 500 I spent, the precision is amazing so I feel like I got a throttle for free....what a deal!

Got the HOTAS Warthog, went from a CH setup and I'm happy with it, as Airdog stated the hall sensor is absolutely brilliant compared to potentiometers.

also I use this setup for DCS: (both titles), Strike fighters, IL2 46, IL2 COD, ROF, FSX, FC2 and Steel Beasts pro PE.

[sarcxasm on] I'm really sorry it cant't be used for anything besides A-10C [/sarcasm off]

Personally found that it works really well for ROF. Split-Throttle is ideal for throttle/fuel mix setup.

Also read a lot of comments re twitchy planes. Flying the Camel exclusively at present and I manage to stick to target drones like a tick to a dog's backside - largely thanx to the Warthog.

Actually, I've seen and heard of enough examples of metal parts breaking on TM sticks that I'm not sure this is accurate. Besides, not everything is made of metal, and your stick is only as durable as the least durable component. From what I've seen, TM sticks don't seem to be noticably more durable than mostly plastic sticks... maybe less so in fact. Plastic gets an undeserved, bad rap.

On some good news, I heard rumor that TM was working on a new HOTAS. Rumor has it that it's made out of solid gold and is going to be offered as a cheaper alternative to the TM Warthog. Unfortunately, they trade brittleness of cast metal for ductility, so it's probably not going to be any more durable :( Throttle will "gold brick" within a week

Applies to IL2:COD as well, whenever you're not flying twin-engined. Obviously, you can also use the incr/decr slider.

Aye. The main enjoyment I pick up from steel is the stability that it gives through sheer weight - the flat baseplate for the stick is just genius, and the stick feels good. No need at all to use the bolt-holes on either stick or throttle for me.

Speed, my comment was just based on the feel. I like the feel of the metal compared to the plastic of my old CH gear. The plastic used in the CH products seems to be top notch and they last forever.

I havent had the WH long enough to say that the metal makes it's build better but I do like the feel :)

Awesome! My Warthog arrives very shortly and I was wondering how I'd set it up for RoF... throttle/mix is a perfect utilisation of a dual throttle!

Thank you :)

You can get the Hall rate technology in the Thrustmaster 1600, cost £39. It certainly is really nice- sensitive and smooth. Spend the change on Track IR, beer and wine.

Actually I would love a warthog, but dont have space to set up a pit permanently and dont want to have to spend 25minutes gettting eveything in place every time. Im a kitchen table guy. compact stick ,throttle and rudder peddles works well for me untill I buy a bigger house..

Anyway this thread title is about realism. Even on the kitchen table with my little cheap joystick and 17 inch laptop screen it is still awesome and real.

The TM Warthog is PERFECT for ALL the simulators I've ran it through which are:

FC.20

Black Shark

A-10C

IL2

IL2 CoD

F4

Its so much better than any stick out there by far. Every time you wrap your hand around the grip of the TM Warthog there's a smile that comes up that doesn't go away. Unless you have one you won't understand :)

And no, TM Warthog is not only good for DCS-A10.

Posted

isnt the warthog grip removable ? (I'd heard you can switch in the Cougar grip for eg)..

...if thats the case, couldn't TM just release an F-1/8 grip only option for eg.. ?

....?

Posted

Yes and yes. :)

It's a very simple operation to do as well, completely tool-less. The large metal screw at the base grips a holder in the baseplate, and the stick connects to the base in there through a standard PS/2 connector.

Yeah I don't buy the 'because it is perfect for one sim it is useless in all others' argument either, especially since no other stick on the market even comes close to matching even one plane. Its perfect for DCS Warthog, yes, but from there a button is a button is a button and you can map them however you want, exactly as you have to with every other stick on the market.

One viable argument you could make would be lack of FF, but that doesn't bother me to be honest. The Warthog is bar none the most accurate controller of any kind I have plugged into a computer.

Oh, and I use the throttle/mixture thing for RoF too, along with the Incr-Decr slider for radiator. Love it!

Ok guys. I've just order TrackIR. Looks really helpful because Im tired of Pressing C + LCtrl to look around all the time.

HOTAS Warthog controller also looks really cool. Unfortunately half a grand for a controller is really steep. That's the price you should charge the government, not civilians. I'll have to find something in between. :( Maybe CH Products? Will research now...

I love the WH stick, its solid heavy and has no deadzones what so ever.

The throttle is not quite in the same legue though, it has alot of movement that it should not and some slop. I rate the Joystick a solid 10/10 and the throttle at 8/10

If only they had put a little more effort into getting them both perfect.

PS after 1 month an LED backlight has died. No big issue maybe? or a sign that somethings not quite right =(

youre gonna LOVE TrackIR. I held off on it for a year or so and now i gave in and got TIR5 + trackclip pro. bloody amazing, no other words

Should not be an issue. Unfortunately consumer products cannot go through industrial grade testing (you'd pay 2000 dollars for the set then, with no difference), so for consumer electronics products the rate of at least some component like that failing early tends to be at least several percent. I suspect you just got the unlucky part of those percents. :(

(Compare to "RMA" - there's not really such thing as "RMA" in industrial and military sectors. Both pay a LOT more for the testing before delivery. The most extreme example is space industry though - imagine the testing they can get to do on an electric screwdriver to really guarantee that it'll 100% work, and it'll still not really touch the launch budget since NASA is already paying 1 million dollars per pound of payload. :P )

That stick looks phenomenal. So it's either a new swingset and sandbox for my boys or daddy gets a new toy... I think my kids win this time around! ;)

You could buy the stick and then teach them how to fly with it! :joystick:

Just think of the bonding you could have with them flying co-op over hostile armor!

Hell no. First thing to teach them is: never overfly the target. :P

That's a $500+ question. It's an acronym for this:

You guys can keep your TMWH's. The X65f is freakin' awesome, even better since I only paid $200 for mine brand new. That means I have extra $$$ to spend on TrackIR 5, MFD's, and beer. I fly much better with beer.

I am still working on a Kinect tracking solution though.
