Cibit Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Hi I was hosting a server earlier in the evening with my TS address listed. A lot of the bigger flying communities, 1st VFW S77th Tigers etc sometimes have the TS address in the mission briefing which can be viewed in MP server screen. Once the dedicated server is available I think many open servers will be available to join. But you have to realise that the missions available to a large extent don't cater to Join In Progress and the headache caused by teamkilling taking off on the wrong runway and lack of communication can be quite acute. Also Iron Angels is AFAIK always open:) 1 i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Adding JTAC Guide //My Vid's//229th AHB
WH_Boomer Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 ... But you have to realise that the missions available to a large extent don't cater to Join In Progress and the headache caused by teamkilling taking off on the wrong runway and lack of communication can be quite acute. +1 for Cibit The War Hawks run our server for our members, due in large part to the above quote. We have an extensive training program in order to get our members all flying to at least a minimum skill level. We also use TARS during our scheduled missions, and prior to launch we typically have a 15 minute or so briefing to get radio frequency and tasking info to the participants. Some people don't have time for this, and prefer to simply jump into a server, fly around lone wolf style and blow up as much stuff as they can in as little time as possible which is fine, there is plenty of room in the DCS world for all kinds. That just doesn't fit with what the War Hawks were founded on, and our missions typically will last anywhere from 3 to 6 hours from ramp start to ramp shutdown. Respectfully submitted, ~S~ Boomer DCS: Blackshark Cockpit Trainer DCS: A-10C Cockpit Trainer
bengo Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Well said Boomer. We, at the 74th, have our TS-information on our site. Opening up a server without a password is a guarantee for having lonewolves and teamkillers flooding the airspace. Forget about tactics or achieving mission-goals. It's no fun being shot down by some console-kid after flying for an hour or 2 and trying to nurse your wounded bird back to base for some repairs. i7 6700k/GTX1070-8G/MSI-Z170A Gaming Pro Carbon/32GB DDR4 Kingston HyperX PREDATOR DDR4 3000MHZ Vengeance 1600/TM Warthog #6106/Samsung SB350_S27B350H/OCZ Agility3 SSD 128GB / Win10-64/TIR5
luckybob9 Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 I run the Iron Angels server 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (unless it crashes). It uses automated server management that does it best to regulate users as well as rotates between different missions every two hours. Feel free to check it out. luckybob9 Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 It crashed last night sometime. I am not exactly sure when since I am in New York for business and can't check it as frequently. I can add as many missions and vary the time length to any amount in my mission manager, but I have a hard time finding good missions that are of good quality, can support 10 people, and have enough units for around 2 hours of mission time. Also the time itself to evaluate missions isn't completely there for me. But since there seems to be demand, I will start browsing. The teamspeak information is shown after a few minutes or so upon entering the A10c server Nevada map contributer EDM Modeling tools FAQ: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1418067&postcount=1 Seo libh a chairde is chanadh liom. I think it crashed bercause its not up ther! EVERYTHING IS PASSWORD PROTECTED! Man this is ridiculous. DCS should have some public dedicated servers up. How hard would that be.
bloomstomb Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 9 servers.. all PW protected. Sigh.. and no info on how to log into anyof them. I guess I will go play campaign .

Steel Jaw Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 The main reason for that is to prevent folks from flying with a given group without being on teamspeak. You will need to find their website TS info in the mission brief if available. luckybob9 Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Fixed I think. I didn't have a chance to verify. The server usually lasts 48 hours before crashing. I try to restart it daily when it is empty so nobody notices, but I have been out of town and unable to check on it as frequently. Soon I will invest time to update my rotating program to detect crashes and relaunch the server when I have more time after I get back. 1 Nevada map contributer EDM Modeling tools FAQ: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1418067&postcount=1 Seo libh a chairde is chanadh liom. imac12 Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 I think it's pretty simple really... People don't open their games up for a number of reasons, but tonight was a pretty good example of it. Fired up a game and had 9 people in it before I finished spinning the aircraft up. A couple of them proceeded to line up on the runway for a formation take off and sat there for 5-10 minutes. Then they proceeded to blow up (in formation naturally), blocking the majority of the runway. Four or five additional wrecks on the runway later, they left. Another guy got in, started up, taxied to the end of the runway and proceeded to sit there bitching about how he couldn't figure out why his game was doing x and y, all while another guy was trying to land. His solution to the problem was to bitch some more and tell the guy to land in front of him. All the time I'm trying to fly and manage the aircraft I'm also trying to talk to people and give them a hand if I can. Add on top of that just managing the server and I probably spent 20-30 minutes at the beginning of the mission just in lazy left circle instead of prosecuting targets. So yeah, there's a good chance I'll just keep my server locked up and give the passwords to people I know and want to fly with. The other thing? Nobody seems grateful that you actually do open your server up for public use. I'm not asking for praise or a medal, but don't come in and bitch because I won't help you figure out why you can't rearm your plane while I'm trying to fly. /rant
imac12 Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 And... (since I keep getting errors trying to edit my post) All that being said, I've come across a couple of good players, be it either on the =IA= server or just opening up my own to all comers. But so far, the bad easily outweigh the good. It's rather annoying to watch your RWR light up with multiple missile launch warnings in a known SAM environment just to find out its dickhead 1-1 blasting off all six of his Mavs at the first target(s) he sees, regardless of mission objectives.
OhmWrecker Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Every single server tonight is passworded. Come on guys, even if teamkillers pop up people can deal. Just turn off labels, it makes it much more difficult outside of camping the runway.
MoGas Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Every single server tonight is passworded. Come on guys, even if teamkillers pop up people can deal. Just turn off labels, it makes it much more difficult outside of camping the runway. Don't worry, the 104th Phoenix will place soon a DEDICATED server for the DCS A-10C online, where people can join. And yes, we have admins who are been able to deal with those kiddys. I see, some people totally overate the issue with "TK`s" and make a story out of it, I guess some of the DCS A-10C Sqn`s are new, and maybe not used to it, like the old FC SQn`s. But thats what it is on the start from a new product, you get new customers and new clients for the community, soo, that means some of those funny kind of "TK`s" need to learn, how it runs or how to behave on a public server. Speaking as a admin over ages, in FC for example, last months around 900 players listed on our stats, and we have just few issues really. And this works only by showing them how to act on a server or he gets banned for a while, and finally, all know, ok, you cant mess around here. But locking a "server" in this case, dosent help, if you wanna fly alone its ok, but I guess nothing for me....
sobek Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 I think the locked servers with TS info are the ideal compromise, IMHO. I don't know why people choose flying 12 slot missions with 2 players over publishing their TS info and giving out the pw on TS. From what i've seen so far, this works like a treat. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
Boberro Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 (edited) Hmmm if all servers all locked and people are too lazy to join TS for getting password, all those servers should be empty. Join to those which aren't. Simple. For me, personally password protected server (except special meetings) is a failure. Edited May 19, 2011 by Boberro Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Kuky Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Ah this is simple... right now flying DCS is pretty much like doing coop missions... once the DCS have some fighters and there can be oposition fighters people will unlock their servers as they need other people to fly against :smilewink: PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
bartleby Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Have people really been having a problem with TKs? I don't think I've ever seen one in my entire time online thus far*. Sometimes there's poor airfield coordination, but not awful. Maybe that's changed with the Steam release, I dunno. *Though I have to admit I (accidentally! I swear!) downed a teammate with a maverick once. I wanted to see if it would track and thought it was in training mode...apparently not : / DCS Wiki! :book:
