Nice. I wonder if you can make a RAM drive to install A-10C on, that would speed things up somewhat:)

Happy times and I hope to see you OC that sandybridge to at least 5 Gig:thumbup:

You know that Sandybridge has a dual-channel memory interface, right? You need either 2 or 4 DIMMs to take advantage of that, I would suggest either 2x4GB or 4x4GB.

My personal experience is that you will notice more performance gain from higher capacity than getting dual channel.

What Killa means is that the SB cpu and your MB. will only support Dual channel DDR3 and best installed in pairs. not Tri channel DDR3. The memory you chose is designed for the X58 platform, which is Tri Channel DDR3.

That is true, but all the tests i have seen up to now indicated that dual channel operation does not really grant you any substantial performance benefits.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

I understand that. My point was to mention what his new MB and CPU were designed for. Against the memory he purchased. That was all.

Thanks for all your comments, guys!

I know Sandy bridge only supports single or dual channel memory configurations, not triple channel.

I did not find a fast, affordable and available 4x4GB RAM module kit for dual channel use.

So I ended up with 3x4=12GB. I know that means single channel mode only, but I think not having dual channel operation will not noticably affect performance.

When the rig is assembled I will compare A-10C-framerates using these two configurations:

1. 2x4=8GB dual channel

2. 3x4=12GB single channel

I'll post the results when I have them.

For someone who is buying new components from scratch and not reusing old components, your RAM selection is the most bizarre thing I've seen anyone make.

I still don't understand why you would buy a triple channel kit designed for and X58 motherboard for a Sandy Bridge system.

Simple, he wants more RAM than 8 and found no appropriate 4x4 kit. That's really all there is to it. :P

Nice setup especialy RAM amount. I also like to have many Gigs - Photoshop, Sony Vegas, 3Ds Max and so on eat large amount of memory.

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

Yes, because when you are building a new comp it is reasonable to order parts from vendors across the europe and not from the ones close to you (in case of faulty parts) that you have most positive experience with.

??? My list = only german vendors, derelor is from Germany, what is your point?

Modified first post. I forgot to add the soundcard last time.

I also changed the RAM modules from 3x4 to 4x4 GBytes. After spending some time I finally found modules that would fit under the Noctua NH-D14. At first I wanted to buy Corsair Vengeance modules, but they were incompatible with the cooler due to their size.

Thanks for all your comments

Parts arrived last week and I assembled it this weekend. Everything runs super fast - including DCS A-10C. Once it's affordable, I'm gonna add an OCZ Vertex 3 240GB SSD...

That capacity is a total overkill! It's better to use HDD for gigs of non-performance-critical data e.g. videos. Unless you sleep on money :P

The larger ones are also faster (similar to HDDs, but for different reasons). Also, 240 isn't even that expensive these days....

If you're dumping that much on graphics and cpu, the storage subsystem might as well see equal investment.
