Flaming Cliffs 2 custom cockpit fully working hud /mfd tutorial

Ever flown with your perfectly made pit and missed the most important part? well the wait is over.

This does have its limitations, your pit needs to be moved to fit the hud you cant move the hud or the mfd's sorry. You can hex edit the file to remove the mfd/hud etc if so needed.

First of all i'm assuming you have your pit ready you have a cockpit.skins file made and your just waiting for that final part.

1:

Go into your bazar shapes folder and rename for example kabina-f-15.cmd to kabina-f-15-1.cmd (dosent matter what you rename it to) your kabina-f-15.lom stays the same.

Open you skins file and make sure these two lines are at the top, you'll notice that the lod is exactly the same and that is a must, your cmd file must also be on top.

(what it does is remove all rendered geometry from the top file and displays only the bottom)

models

{

lod = {"Kabina-f-15-1", 1000000};

lod = {"Kabina-f-15", 1000000};

}

argument

{

argument = 180;

skin

{

value = 0.0;

material = {"tutorial_gauges", "Standart", "Tutorial_gauges.bmp"};

}

skin

{

value = 1.0;

material = {"Tutorial_gauges", "Lighting Standart", "Tutorial_gauges_lm.bmp"};

}

}

Start Fc2 and enjoy your working hud. this can be done for any pit!

Best of luck and remember human knowledge belongs to everyone, support your fellow man and support open source.

Glad to see someone else figured it out. It's only been a few days since I figured it out myself, but a little differently. :P

My method was hex-editing out all of the 3d data in the Kabina-F-15.cmd leaving only the HUD, then using the Kabina-F-15-GLASS.LOM for my cockpit model, so it overlayed over the .cmd file that had only a HUD in it, but this method you presented is much easier. By removing all the textures and changing the material id's for the objects that didn't have textures to ones that did, I got rid of everything.

Next step would be to actually move the positions of the MFD's. I'm sure their coordinates are in the hex code somewhere.

I've attached the cockpit arguments for anyone who's making new pits and needs them.

Thanks again Trigen for your work.

I see Blaze has edited his post here so i'll go ahead and be a little nicer

All is forgiven, and thanks for giving out the pit arguments, i'm sure many will appreciate those.

Yep, user-made .lom cockpits can now have fully-functional HUD's. MFD's are functional but you can't change their positions...yet.

You can replace the existing ones with your cockpit (essentially the same as adding a new pit). but you cant add a new kind of hud, you will have to rely on one of the default pits if you want that.

Replace existing ones for the overlay model you are using, I.e. A10, F15, SU27 etc.

As you can see below, you need to align your cockpit model with the HUD / MFCD screens (if you want those)

Excuse the textures, (this was just a HUD test)

Looking good Ells. For the time being I just hex'ed out the MFD's and RWR since they're not in the right spot yet. I can upload the modified kabina files with them disabled if anyone wants them.

Thanks bud, also just finished some other textures.

I've left the MFD's in there at the moment as doing some weapon label testing as below.

For God sake, can somebody explain me what's going on here? Is this beginning of serial production custom cockpits ? Eurofighter?

Thanks for answering Blaze, and loved the chill comment hehe

Yes we are developing a Typhoon model and cockpit for FC2 (exterior model has been out for some time since FC1.12a).

And as Blaze said once we figure out how to move the MFD displays onto the MFCD panels she'll be fully combat ready.

Work on the switch panels is obviously ongoing still as you can see from the screenshots.

Exciting times indeed!!

Crushed between our will to improve and ED's business... ;)

Well you have to take into account here that Flaming Cliffs was published under Ubisoft, so restrictions are in place by them, not ED.

Whereas DCS is'nt which is why it's a lot more open in LUA.

Just my two pennies worth anyway

I see much potential here like in the work of keygetis ...

what should aver been FC2?:huh:

As much as i know Kegeteys is not on the surface of the earth at the moment. :)

The only lifesign from him is the mind blowing F/A-18 video on Youtube.
