Habu23 Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 Hello ED team, On your Official Updates section of your forums, you have announced that a DVD retail version of DCS: A-10C will be available for the United Kingdom Amazon website. I live in the United States and have been waiting eight months for the DVD release. When will a U.S. DVD retail version be available and if I purchase the U.K. version of A-10C, will I be able to run it okay in the United States? Thanks, Habu [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Habu23 Posted June 24, 2011 Author Posted June 24, 2011 Hi guys, I have literally been waiting exactly one year to fly this sim. With DVD releases in Nordic Countries, Australia, Israel, and the Middle East, when can we expect a North American release? I don't know if I can wait any longer. Habu [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

CupOHemlock Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Ok, potentially dumb question incoming. I want to get DCS: A-10C, but was going to wait for the boxed version. However, I need to know if the boxed version contains a printed manual. I checked on the cost to upload and print a color copy of the manual and it was $350 bucks at Kinkos. If there is no printed manual in the boxed set then I will just download from the site and then figure out a way to get into my iPhone. Any help/info will be greatly appreciated. 1
sobek Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 There will be a printed flight manual sold separately (i think it's not available yet), the boxed version does not contain one. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
CupOHemlock Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Oops ok I found a tidbit in the FAQ which says a printed manual may be available at a later time. I am assuming that means the retail box contains only the disc. Sorry for posting without fully reading the FAQ  Thanks sobek!
159th_Viper Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 No printed manual in the boxed version. Not sure about the quick-start guide either. Printed manuals are probably going to be up for sale later on and again will in all probability be black and white - again mere speculation on my part. EtherealN Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 If there is no printed manual in the boxed set then I will just download from the site and then figure out a way to get into my iPhone. Manuals are in pdf forman, stored in the Doc folder inside the installation, so this should not be a problem. (If you have an iPad, Transformer or similar tablet it'll be more convenient though.) I do know for sure that there are ways to get manual prints bound and printed cheaper, though - someone used a shop in germany. Should be links somewhere on the forum, but it eludes me at the moment. (Unfortunately though, printing it in color will always be prohibitively expensive, only mass-prints can cut the costs there. Remains to be seen if the printed manual offering would be color or B/W, as far as I know the decision isn't made yet.) CupOHemlock Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 (If you have an iPad, Transformer or similar tablet it'll be more convenient though.) Hmm an iPad. My wife would kill me, but that would be an awesome way to have the manual handy while flying
EtherealN Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Well, you can check if there's any cheap iPad 1's out there. I'm personally an Android type of person, but I did see a lot of iPad 1's at cheap prices after the iPad 2 release. Also, there are checklists, kneeboards and stuff available in app format for the iPad which can be helpful. (And someone made an application that allows display and manipulation of cockpit controls on the iPad, including the MFCD's, I haven't tried it myself though. Need to steal the office iPad at some point. :D ) Reading documents is very nice on the iPad though, so it should work great for the manuals and other related documents. I've personally mainly used it for referencing industrial drawings during planning meetings and such, which it does well. BrandonBP Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 Incorrect. I ended up buying the sim from the UK and having it shipped to me in the US. The DVD version was 1.1.0.7. Just this week I updated it with patch 1.1.0.8. which was a gig or a bit more I think. It cost me about $73 to order from the UK, but it was well worth the extra cash and the wait for it to get here.
lubey Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 I think what EtherealN may have meant is that the US release will be version 1.1.0.9 or something else more up to date. Gone are the days when you went to the store, got a game and it was version 1.0 everywhere.
