jpanside Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 I have memorized how to do start up and all the cool procedures to land your plane. I did a test and landed at Batumi and Katusi 4 times in a row without popping a single tire (big feat for me). So now I am wondering what I should learn next, I am slow learner so something easy but essential would be nice. Right now the only thing I can think of learning are weapon systems but I have no clue which weapon to start on. Should I learn how to refuel in mid air? Or landing on a carrier? Oh, and I still have not bought a x52 joystick so I might want to hold back on learning weapons until I get it. What should I do?
Laud Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Maybe have a look at the capability of your CDU (waypoints, markpoints, flightplans, offset,...), your TAD (Map modes, network config, hooking objects,...), use of CMS, use of TGP, night ops, bad weather ops, crosswind landings, ... Cibit Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Do the first quick mission until you can prosecute all the targets efficiently, that will cover the basics for weapons delivery:) i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Adding JTAC Guide //My Vid's//229th AHB
WildFire Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 (edited) lol, yeah not having a billion buttons at the tip of your fingers really affects your ability to effectively employ all the power this bird has to give. You shouldnt be landing on a carrier anytime soon, if ever in a hog... unless you set super high wind and attempt to fly it like a helicopter onto the deck, it really shouldnt be possible. A good thing to is how to use navigation. Tacan, the ILS, using the outer/inner beacons, and the HSI. Also learning how to fly using just the instruments, watching the climb/descent rate and using the HSI for navigation all the way to landing. basically flying blind. if you can do that you can fly almost any plane with your eyes closed. After that I would recommend refueling, that is probably the single hardest thing to do in this game, IMO. And flying formation with AI and tankers. That is equally difficult but something every military pilot can do with ease. Then move on to the CDU, and TAD. These are way important super useful tools. Id say its more important to figure out the tad when flying multiplayer than anything, but thats just my first impression. You master the flying side of the house all around, when it comes to actually shooting stuff itll be a piece of cake. Edit* I forgot to mention the importance of the instruments, at one point you will be shot at. You will be hit. You will lose SOME if not MOST of your avionics sometimes. At that point youll have to rely on the secondary indicators. Its important. Edited June 5, 2011 by WildFire
Frostiken Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Well, regarding air refueling, I have a feeling it's not quite the same kind of 'difficulty' in real life as it is in the sim. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Laud Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 You master the flying side of the house all around, when it comes to actually shooting stuff itll be a piece of cake. Right! My suggestions are not neccessarily to be considered the correct sequence of learning! ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Asus ROG STRIX Z390-F Gaming, Intel Core i7 9700k , 32gb Corsair DDR4-3200 Asus RTX 2070 super, Samsung 970 EVO Plus M2, Win10 64bit, Acer XZ321QU (WQHD) TM HOTAS Warthog, SAITEK Rudder Pedals, TIR 5

One could think the same about formation flying as it looks so smooth and easy when the Blue Angles for example do it... :music_whistling: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Asus ROG STRIX Z390-F Gaming, Intel Core i7 9700k , 32gb Corsair DDR4-3200 Asus RTX 2070 super, Samsung 970 EVO Plus M2, Win10 64bit, Acer XZ321QU (WQHD) TM HOTAS Warthog, SAITEK Rudder Pedals, TIR 5
WildFire Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 In almost every sim Ive played that is combat related, i.e. janes stuff and F4 I always overshoot the formation.... Course in longbow and FSX its a bit easier...
Conure Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 I would move onto navigation next, though it entirely depends on how you want to master the sim. For me, after take off and landings I then practised navigation between airfields using GPS, TACAN and then ILS approaches. Start at day, then night, then poor weather, then poor weather at night. What's the point in knowing how to deploy weapons if you don't know where to deploy them?! :) Good luck! Qazme Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Just a hint and tip, weapons delivery needs to be the very last set of things you learn. AFAIK you need to have an understanding on the flight dynamics, navigation, and electronics down before. Walk before you run or you'll end up on your face. (OF course this is if you take it seriously and don't want to end up aggravated. Sometimes aggravation is what leads to brilliance.)
jpanside Posted June 6, 2011 Author Posted June 6, 2011 you guys are awesome. thanks for all the tips! Navigation it is! and you are right, I should make sure that I know my plane inside and out before I take over the world in my A-10C.
sobek Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Well, regarding air refueling, I have a feeling it's not quite the same kind of 'difficulty' in real life as it is in the sim. I truly doubt that. :) Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!

God grief, have some fun will ya, weapons delivery could very well be the absolute first thing for a new pilot to learn. That way he can be somewhat okayish at the game and still be able to play it. Then he can continue on looking at all the other cool things that the sim features. Edited June 6, 2011 by Irregular programming
