Hi all,

Just had to have a rant and see if anybody can advise. I recently bought FSX and have only just downloaded it, however I have had one problem after the next.

First, I tried to download it, clicked the link and it timed out, clicked it again, timed out...Clicked it a final time and I wasn't able to try again. Had to email customer support...Two days later it worked again.

So, I download the game (slowly because their servers are terrible, apparently) and install it. I type in the product key and it says it's invalid. An invalid CD key which I have clearly bought from Microsoft. 5 email exchanges later we've established that it isn't because I've typed in the CD key wrong (primarily because, at the end I realised I could copy paste it).

They have asked me to phone them, so I try, get a message in what sounds like korean, and the phone cuts off. The reason this is so frustrating is because I have also purchased GEX, REX, UTX, PMDG J4100.....As you all know this was not cheap. Further, I won't be able to get a refund on any of it.

Has anybody else been in a situation like this? I am unable to speak to anybody, and their emails are generic copy paste replies. Is it very frustrating and I am tempted to uninstall FSX and give away my addons. Not something I want to do because they were expensive, but this is draining!

I bought it boxed out the shop recently, all installation etc worked perfectly. Sorry thats not much help, but maybe rather than giving your addons away you could buy the cheapest boxed version of FSX you can find just to get up and running. Since you have bought PMDG you probably appreciate a good model so you will not be interested in any of the FSX stock stuff anyway. I have been very pleased with the PMDG and Realair stuff I have bought, and some of the scenery (western / and northern isles), those addons alone have luckily made it worthwhile upgrading to FSX. If they could run on FS2004 I would advise you to go back to FS2004 before you waste any more money on FSX. I am amazed by how buggy and half arsed the whole thing seems, very dissapointing!

Sorry, I have not experience that nether. I bought my FSX copy in the the store. I wish you would have ask in the forums before you spend your money. I would have told you to save the money and use it on something worth it. I bought some stuff (VRS F-18, REX) and so terrible I don't even use it.

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

Mixed feelings on FSX, had alot of potential but never got there. Over at their main cult site, AVSIM, though, they are in a firm and sad denial.

I would look at Xplane X.

I also have the boxed version. I don't think it is a download version so you must have bought some cracked version!

Boxed version works fine with Windows 7 64 bit :D

That is a shame, though I can't even test it now :D I heard the PMDG stuff is worth buying it for though...Is that not true?

PMDG and LevelD are good products (I have them) but the FPS will be hideous.

That is annoying - Well, at least I will have tried it. If I can get it working I don't think it'll be long before I'm back to A10. Would love a game that ran like DCS, looked like DCS, had the depth of DCS in terms of avionics/systems/FM and allowed world wide civilian flight.

That'd be perfect :)

Thanks Rex! Will try that :) Microsoft said it's to do with me having a previous version installed, and I need to get rid of that...I did have it installed, like...AGES ago. How ridiculous is this.

The first part is going to depend strongly on many things :P

The second: if you have the right settings and the right add-ons: FSX will look excellent!

had the depth of DCS in terms of avionics/systems/FM and allowed world wide civilian flight.

In that case look at these add-ons:

- PMDG (747-400X + exterior models if you want, J4100, MD-11X and the to be released 737NGX)

- Level-D 767 (The graphics aren't very up to date (i.e. most of the buttons and switches are flat textures), however the systems are modelled in exquisite detail)

- Maddog MD-80

And if you like military aircraft as well:

- Vertical Reality Studios (VRS) F/A-18E Superbug X

- A2A Simulations Accusim aircraft (being a B-377; P-47D Razorback; Piper Cub; B-17G and the Spitfire MkI and MkII.)

A2A is currently working on several projects: MkV Spitfire, P-40, P-51D, F-4 Phantom, F-104 Starfighter and a "secret project, yet to be announced" :)

Drop me a PM if you want help or want to fly in FSX.

Cheers

thanks MTF :) I am about to format as I haven't in quite a while and quite frankly, my PC is a wreck. Just backing up now. hopefully FSX will work afterwards :-) i have already bought the PMDG J4100 with REX and UTX, hopefully it wont be a 10fps crawl but from what mower says, I won't expect too much.

I have a few tricks up my sleeve that makes FSX run better ;)

Drop me a pm if you want. We can get together on skype perhaps to get FSX running as good as possible on your pc? :)

Sounds awesome, than you very much :) do you have the J4100 by any chance??

Yep I do :)

I have all the add-ons I listed (and more :music_whistling:), with the exception of the maddog md-80. A mate of mine recommended that aircraft, so I thought I'll just put it to the list :)

Nice, I'm jealous...Can't wait for the 737 and (if it works) will get the MD-11 next. How is the PMDG FM?? I have heard bad things about fsx FM, but hopefully that's stuck aircraft..

I just have to mention Realair TurbineDuke!

Get it, its brilliant! unless you are truly not interested in light aircraft (although it is a twin). I have the J41 from PMDG too, seems really good, but I got so distracted by the Duke that I havent been able to sit down and get to grips with J41 yet.

The instruments are so smooth in the Realair that it is REALLY good IFR practice, and the flight model is verygood, you can feel the weight of the aircraft, the balance between control trimming etc all seems spot on. Almost worth putting up with FSX for!

Like most things here, this is just my opinion.

I have never use PMDG products. With that said, every other add on I have seen or tried are horrible. Basically a modified 737 flight model. I heard all this praise for the VRS F-18 and again I don't even fly it. The engine do not respond as they should, avionics do not respond properly, etc. I tried several F-16 (IRIS, AEROSOFT) and they are so bad I almost cried. For the same amount of money you get and entire sim in DCS, not just an aircraft. And REX can look beautiful, if you have a crazy computer. I could not fully use it with any set I tried it on.

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Well, no worries there as I tried a format and guess what...It doesn't work! It's not worth my time or money to spend anything else trying to make this game work when I have such a fantastic simulator in DCS, I just very much miss civilian flying.

Microsoft have said they will issue a refund, I have requested one for the PMDG J4100 and REX, however I very much doubt they will oblige (and quite understandably - the problem is with Microsoft, not them!)

Anyway, given that I'll probably have a REX and JS4100 going spare, and given that I have no interest in pursuing this game any further, would anybody here make good use of the addons? Would ideally like them to go to somebody that would get hundreds of hours of use out of them...It's about £50 ($80 or so?) worth of software going free....So....Not really sure who should get it :) lol

It takes at least $150 bucks to get FSX on par. I recommend REX,GEX,FEX, and SEX. Also anything from A2A with accusim, and the VRS Superbug.

And besides that there are a plethora of photo-realistic scenery available Some of it free some of it not I would recommend Ironhands Maui, its quite nice and freely available @ LOF.
