jetdx Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 (edited) :helpsmilie:I am trying to buy A-10C but it will not let me check out. Am I missing something? I am logged in. NOW WHAT? I can purchase it on my phone but not computer. On my home PC I never get the "Proceed" button. I try to login with the correct username and password but I cannot log in now. After I enter everything and press "Log In" button the screen flashes and goes back to where I need to log in. Was looking forward to this but I am quick getting to the point where I am going to wait until it comes out in the box at retail stores. I says that I am logged in when I go to any other part of the website. jetdx Posted June 10, 2011 Author Posted June 10, 2011 OH MY. OK I got past that issue. I may wish I didn't. I got to the download page. I clicked on setup.exe, USA, HTTP...NOTHING. I am going to look at it more now but what am I doing wrong or what should I be doing? Just tried it again and it gives me "404 File not Found"
EvilBivol-1 Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 You have to download all 4 files - setup.exe, setup-1.bin, setup-2.bin, setup-3.bin. They all have to go into the same folder on your hard drive. Once you download all 4 files, double-click on setup.exe to begin installation. For each file, you can choose any of the FTP or HTTP links to begin the download. If you have a bittorrent client, you can download the entire thing using the single torrent link at the very bottom of the downloads page. - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. jetdx Posted June 10, 2011 Author Posted June 10, 2011 If I close the DCS: A-10C download page can I get back to it? I.E. if I shut down the computer.

How do I download each one? WHOA...that may be a dumb question.
EvilBivol-1 Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Yes, you have to download each file individually by clicking on one of the FTP or HTTP links for each file and saving it in a directory of your choice. However, I'm trying to test the site right now and there may be login issues at the moment. If anyone else is reading this on the forum, a test of the login and download links would be appreciated. - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Everything takes much longer. jetdx Posted June 10, 2011 Author Posted June 10, 2011 Hmmmm...FTP seams to be working this time. A-10C better be worth all of this.
MTFDarkEagle Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 It will ;) You can also try the torrent: it may start out a bit slow, but as soon as you connect to more seeders the speed goes up up and away :) And: with the torrent you download all the right files in one go :) Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread
jetdx Posted June 10, 2011 Author Posted June 10, 2011 It seems to be working now. setup-1.bin says 38 min. + yet.

I am VERY new to all this...can you tell? These downloads are taking QUITE a while. Can I do these downloads in a couple sittings or do I need to keep the computer on and the downloads going? This is quite an investment for me not sure if this will even work for me. It is a bit of a gamble. Edited June 10, 2011 by jetdx
MTFDarkEagle Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 A torrent is a peer-to-peer technology. You can find more info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torrent_file You need a bittorrent client to download it. The torrent itself is a small file, but you "connect" to other people. What basically happens is that a pc downloads a packet of data, and that data is uploaded to other users, who in turn upload that same packet of data to other users. (see link for more info) Why it isn't the only choice: some countries have "banned" torrents, because it is thought that they are linked to piracy. It is true torrents are used a lot by internetpirates, but not all. Which is a shame as it's quite a fast technology. 1 Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread
Kuky Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 With FTP and HTTP you are downloading file(s) from servers... with torrent you are downloading from people who have downloaded the files from their PC's, it's called peer-to-peer connection but for you to use torrent you need torrent manager... uTorrent is what I use 1 PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
jetdx Posted June 11, 2011 Author Posted June 11, 2011 WARNING: There will be A LOT more questions! Sorry! I am going to ask these while I have the issue and am thinking about them. When I want to copy these onto DVD-R's do I copy what I am downloading now? Also, will each of these fit on a CD or do I need to ZIP them? That will be more questions (ZIPing them)
joey45 Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 A DVD hold about 4.7 gigs. But you could get away with one DVD. Best bet is a external hard drive or a second internal one for storage. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. Ripcord Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 I think it's because if our friend I'd having problems downloading then the complexity of A-10 is going to fry his brain. ;) That was my first thought as well. Georgio Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 Yup but then that takes you to the scenario already mentioned that to run A-10 in game mode is like having a Ferarri and sitting in it making 'burruum, burrrruuum' noises instead of actually driving it. That was my first thought as well. RandyMyers Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 Well you do have to start somewhere. I just purchased the Simulator and took it out for a spin in the game mode just to get a little feel for it. LostOblivion Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 It's perfectly understandable why ED spent time making a game mode, as they surely wouldn't make enough income on the hardcore simmers alone. Nice plane on that gun... OS764 P930@4 MBUD3R M6GB G5870 SSDX25 CAntec1200 HTMHW
Pyroflash Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 Pro Tip: Don't listen to any Pro Tips. Semi-Pro Tip: You don't get the feel for flying the A-10C when you fly it in game mode. It is too simple; if you really want to get the feel for it, then I suggest flying around the aircraft for a few hours in sim mode with no payload and about half fuel  If you aim for the sky, you will never hit the ground.

Although I have never tried it, it appears that you could set things so that you get sim handling with game weapons. The main thing is that from a pure handling point of view, the plane is relatively easy to fly even in sim mode. To begin with you can ignore most of the cockpit and just concentrate on getting the feel of the plane. It is a bit easier at first if the wings are empty.:smilewink: ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP!
