Zakatak Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 (edited) The search function isn't doing justice, even though this has likely been asked. Pretty much any body of water that isn't at sea level doesn't actually have water in it. If you go near the surface of a watershed or any elevated water source, there isn't actually any water. You can see it a few 1000ft below you, as well as being able to see under-map geometry. It's... distracting. Also, Su-25 model has literal holes in it, anybody know a downloadable model? Old and known issue that cannot be solved without doing really radical things to the terrain engine. Zakatak Posted June 27, 2011 Author Posted June 27, 2011 Damn :/ Is this present in any of the DCS games? The graphics are mostly stunning but this just kinda... hurts it alot.
Nate--IRL-- Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 It is a limitation of the Engine used in FC2 and Black Shark (This should change for black shark with the Warthog compatibility patch). It has been somewhat addressed in Warthog, but not for everywhere on the map. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading

Pyroflash Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Unless they decide to call it Black Shark 2 :music_whistling: @OP try reinstalling, the Cy-25A/T should not have any holes in it that I am aware of. The geometry could have gotten messed up in your download/install. If you aim for the sky, you will never hit the ground.
Zakatak Posted June 27, 2011 Author Posted June 27, 2011 You think? Just go into Flaming Cliffs 2, hit F2, and look around your craft. Am I the only one seeing "cracks" in the model?

Zakatak Posted June 27, 2011 Author Posted June 27, 2011 We'll know as soon as you post screenshots. Yes, father. You should be able to see them. It isn't a game breaker of course, but like the water, it is... distracting. Also, guys what if you made a new kind of terrain that looks just like water, but is capable of being set at any level? Should be technically possible.

I've only seen that feature on the Tornado/Su-25T actually. Also, guys what if you made a new kind of terrain that looks just like water, but is capable of being set at any level? GGTharos Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Tesselation may come in a future DCS module, but not now. One way or another, it'll spank your processor and GPU as well. And no, it isn't as easy as doing the same to water - one is a uniform surface, the other is not. Also, guys what if you made a new kind of terrain that looks just like water, but is capable of being set at any level? Should be technically possible. Zakatak Posted June 27, 2011 Author Posted June 27, 2011 Really? Because I would see it having the exact same performance impact as any other square kilometer of terrain (very little). Some terrain is yellow. Some terrain is grey. Some terrain is green. Some terrain is blue? You did it with streams. Blue terrain with wave textures wouldn't look as nice as true water, but better then a bottomless pit :p

Mustang Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 You'll be happy to know that from what i've seen, all those glitchy water surfaces from FC2.0 and Black Shark are fixed in DCS A-10C :) Infact, i cannot find one instance of that bug in DCS A-10C, i have searched all the areas that have lakes and rivers and found that all of them are near perfect. Some examples: Lake south of Krasnodar Airbases the lake up the Kodori Gorge (think thats the right name) water surface of the Inguri Dam

There are still a few places that are not quite right, but yes, in general, Warthog has addressed the problem in most cases. Mustang Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Excellent, now, only the infamous toilet paper trail effect remains. :D Indeed...i wonder how hard it must be to make it stop it going into that lame smoke effect? (The only solution for me is to make sure my cockpit FOV doesn't exceed 85 degrees.)

(The only solution for me is to make sure my cockpit FOV doesn't exceed 85 degrees.) All I want for the next module is vortex effects; 1.5 had them; and they looked ok; why can't h have them know. They made you think that the airplane was actually turning. better smoke effects would be welcome too.

Viper101 Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 I rarely see apparant cracks like that in-game but when I do it is somewhat annoying. It mainly is a hardware configuration problem, mainly your video card settings, so I advise turning up the quality. Are you running ATI/AMD or NVIDIA? And what are your Anti-Aliasing, Antisotropic filtering, AA mode, Mipmap detail level, and/or Tesselation settings? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Zakatak Posted June 27, 2011 Author Posted June 27, 2011 I set my ATI 5670 to "high performance" which is the "3rd best" setting out of 4 possible options. I think that overrides all other options and sets them to high, which should be enough.
