GGTharos Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Alright, so you're not interested in creating your own missions (which really is the replayability bit right there, whether you like it or not - and it's quite powerful), there's user contributed missions, and there's multiplay. There's also the random mission generator for those quick skirmishes. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
159th_Viper Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 I know how to fly and fight in the aircraft, Well if you know all that there is to know then why not channel your knowledge into tutorials to aid those still on the learning curve - CDU would be a good place to start. J. Heller Posted June 29, 2011 Author Posted June 29, 2011 (edited) Well if you know all that there is to know then why not channel your knowledge into tutorials to aid those still on the learning curve - CDU would be a good place to start. Never said I knew it all, I said I know how to fly and fight. I'm sure the CDU cant be too complicated, I have been flying airliners in FS since 2004. I must admit i have not even once done anything besides press the nav button on the A-10 CDU. This random mission generator, have you guys used it and does it create any missions worth flying or does it like to make the combat area a SAM haven with no SEAD aircraft to help out? Alright, so you're not interested in creating your own missions (which really is the replayability bit right there, whether you like it or not - and it's quite powerful), I have a problem with creating missions. That problem is that after I create the mission there is no value in flying it since I know exactly what to expect and this kinda takes the fun out, you know what I mean? I am interested in the random mission generator however, assuming it works well that is. Edited June 29, 2011 by J. Some missions have SEAD some don't it's "Random" :) Just stay high, above 12000 and you should be ok (In most cases). GGTharos Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 I think you are under-estimating the value of a purpose-built mission, but sure, I know what you mean. You can apply the randomization functionality to your own missions if you want to go that deep and make'em fairly replayable. In any case, like I said above, there are plenty of user-contributed missions, some of them fairly dynamic or at least re-playable. The random mission generator works. It works for me, your mileage may vary though. I have a problem with creating missions. That problem is that after I create the mission there is no value in flying it since I know exactly what to expect and this kinda takes the fun out, you know what I mean? EtherealN Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 What do the rest of you do? Practice. There's always something to get better at, so I actually spend most of my flying time either around the home plate, at the shooting range I've made for myself, or flying between them. The other day I spent a few hours practicing landings. When my currently crappy internet connection so allows I try to get a bit of MP-time in - working in a team is always interesting no matter the scenario. Kaiza Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Have to admit that I think the biggest weakness in this game is the replayability. Multiplayer and user made missions are your best bet, multiplayer especially. I am looking forward to when ED include a feature in the ME which makes randomisation easier. i.e. place unit at random within a trigger area or the like. Using random flags to create a binary style solution is just much too hard. rud Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 I haven't done anything but missions from the "fast mission" generator for months. Just pick a starting location, choose the density of friends and enemies that you want, then generate.
