mooshim Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 Checked around and in the manuals for criterion for receiving medals, but no joy... I wonder if there's any significance to any of these (and am looking for a cheap reason to feel good about myself). Speed Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 Personally, I always forget that this is not Falcon (where score was kept only in dynamic campaign missions), and, for example, I'll be testing some mission and I need some friendly ground forces to die to simulate something. So they'll die and I'll exit the mission, and it will say something like "You committed Fratricide! All combat scores deleted!". I might actually care about this if I ever played single player. The "All combat scores deleted" message only pertains to your currents sortie. If you go out and kill enemy 8 tanks, then kill a friendly AWACS you lose your kills on those tanks. You don't lose all the combat scores you got from other missions thankfully!
cichlidfan Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 The medals appear to just be awarded in sequence based on unknown criteria. The criteria just cause you to get a medal. Which one depends on which one is next in line from what I can tell. I found some traces in the files awhle back but I don't recall the details. Ranks do not appear to be much different. Newt Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Ya know, it would be nice if we could learn the reason for the medals. My best guess is just that it's based on your score. But it'd be cool if they were actually awarded for something instead. Live every week like it's Shark Week. :D
mark35444 Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Reminds me of that episode of the simpsons where they are at the airshow, Sideshow bob has the blimp with the atom bomb, and two F-16's are inbound to shoot him down. The flight lead calls fox 2, his missile launches, flies about 100m then slams into his wingman...He wavers for a second then fires again only for his second missile to shoot himself down. Scene ends with both pilots attempting to beat each other up whilst decending in their chutes :megalol: Edit: I tried to find a clip of the scene but couldn't sorry. Speedbrake Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 You wouldn't get a Purple Heart from a score. Maybe you got a paper cut after the flight filling out all the forms! Better yet you got a finger bruise from holding down the trigger.
CEPEGA Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Maybe it was a bird strike on your windshield? fzfq3m Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 (edited) Well, I've got that purple heart medal a few times... mostly by getting my A-10C broken in half after destroying many targets in missions flown through Mission Editor... I had never been awarded a medal during campaign or "normal" missions. I also did some research and apparently in real life Purple Heart medal is awarded if you get KIA or WIA.... P.S Had somebody notice that in mission debriefing sometimes it says you got ejected after dying? I mean the thing goes like this Actor Target Action Put your favorite AAA/SAM Here Player A-10C Shoot Put your favorite AAA/SAM Here Player A-10C Hit Player A-10C Failure Player A-10C Dead Player A-10C Ejected Player A-10C Crash How can I get ejected if I'm dead? VincentLaw Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 If you die in the game it says "Pilot Dead", not just "Dead". I guess that means your airplane died. Those messages confused me at first too. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Well, that may be true. Not to brag myself, but just to make a point, I show below my logbook. Got many of those medals while testing a mission I was making. By repeatedly bombing enemies with their AI turned off, I ended up getting promoted and all. I believe that the medal and promotion system is based on points you get by destroying enemy vehicles and infantry. Much like an arcade (i.e. 10,000 points - Air Medal. 20,000 points - promotions..and so on...) This is an amazing sim! 'Nuff said!:pilotfly: YouTube: SloppyDog

Laurius Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Hi there ! Just to add a word, but this has been probably noticed already, the medals you get are really those of the country you choose for your pilot. Otherwise, I think you are awarded medals mainly on your score. I mainly flew single player missions included within the game and several downloaded from here, and I have one profil very similar to the one of Rodborza. Wouldn't be funny to see equivalent medals from all countries represented in DCS A-10C ?? Just a thought...
