DR. Thompson
Hey guys im new to LOMAC. Im trying to grasp this games massive leaning curve :( Quick question... How do I swich to ILSN mode when approaching an airfield for landing? "When the going gets weird, the weird trun pro." -HST
Spetz
Welcome ! Are you running Flaming Cliffs 2 or the rather old and out dated original LOMAC ? Irregardless, just switch through your NAV modes (3rd mode IIRC - using the tilde ~ key) and you will find the proper one. I fly the Ka-50 now so am trying to remember, but your HUD will switch to landing mode and your flight / landing director will be shown.
DR. Thompson
Thanks Spetz!! Sick of visual landings much eaiser with the localizer and glideslope crosshairs :) I bought Lock on Platinum, so I am running Flaming Cliffs 2 havent downloaded any patches yet so not sure how behind I am on that. Just ordered a saitek x52 pro joystick the otherday should arrive tomorrow..soooo stoked!! GGTharos
You absolutely do not need them when you can see the runway. If you cannot land without those ... or a HUD, then you have some serious flying skill issues :) Thanks Spetz!! Sick of visual landings much eaiser with the localizer and glideslope crosshairs :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

If you cannot land without those ... or a HUD, then you have some serious flying skill issues :) Well, there's a reason why some sort of glide path guidance is essentially mandated for large transport jets, with their associated long spool-up times and slow manoeuvering. The Su-25 when slow/heavy shares some of the characteristics of those jets, so while you shouldn't need GP guidance, the OP is IMO being wiser than most when trying to use whatever means is available. Use all means available to guarantee the safety of the flight, at all times. The people flying the large transports hopefully do not have serious flying skill issues, and still PAPI/VASI installations were mandated due to hard-earned experience. :) ----- Introduction to UTM/MGRS - Trying to get your head around what trim is, how it works and how to use it? - DCS helos vs the real world. Viper101
A quick way instead of having to keep clicking till it gets to the right airport, just switch to ILSN mode and request Inbound with the tower and it will automatically switch to the closest airport. GGTharos
You're neither flying a large transport, nor should you have /any/ trouble /whatsoever/ hitting the glide slope visually even with an overweight Su-25/A-10C (and why would you be landing with them being this heavy?). You do not need this aid at /all/ when you can see the runway. Full stop. There's no 'extra wise' only 'I don't know what the runway sight picture is' which may as well translate to 'I don't know how to land' :) Edit: I just wanted to add though: Everyone has to start somewhere. To the OP: I'm not trying to insult you, just saying you're missing some basic flying skill. It isn't hard to acquire, but it is what you need. If the needles initially aid you to see what the sight picture should look like, great - that's what you should use them for 2-3 times, and then turn'em off. You have many ways to cross-check that you're on glideslope, and you should do this despite having the needles in, say, a 0-viz approach. For example, you can check AoA/Speed/Altitude/Distance. You know that you need about 300'/nm to be on glideslope, you know what AoA you need to maintain, and you know what speed you need to maintain. The reason for doing /all/ these cross-checks is that instruments are prone to failure. Although this is N/A FC2, you should still make the habit happen, and it will make you a better pilot :) Well, there's a reason why some sort of glide path guidance is essentially mandated for large transport jets, with their associated long spool-up times and slow manoeuvering. Cali
All jets land with a low amount of fuel like GG said. I saw a KC-135 circling base for like 30-40 minutes dumping fuel so it could land. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED

muamshai
You should try to learn to land in Su-25 then progress towards easier aircrafts :) This space is available for your advertisement
GGTharos
^^^^ Not a bad idea, though it really shouldn't matter all that much. Landing technique is the same, but I guess the SFM won't punish you for errors :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
