maxmax Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Hi guys, First, my problem: I cant seem to be able to lock any targets in The "Dusk" mission on the deployment campaign. I've been playing BS for a year or so, and never had any problems before. In this mission nothing happens when i try to lock the gates onto the targets. Does it have something to do with low light conditions? If I just shoot Vikhrs anyway, just keeping the gates manually on target, they often go haywire and end up in the ground even though laser is on. Anybody know what im doing wrong?

chromium Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 If you can't read the laser distance indication in shkval, you simply overheat the laser. Remember that you should keep "on" the laser only when you're effectively locking something for tracking or evaluating distances or mem an abris marker (even cause if you look with the shkval somewhere, with laser on, and randomly pass over an enemy with lwr system he will get an lwr spike even if you are not locking onto them). Let me know it was the issue ;) Author of DSMC, mod to enable scenario persistency and save updated miz file Stable version & site: https://dsmcfordcs.wordpress.com/ Openbeta: https://github.com/Chromium18/DSMC The thing is, helicopters are different from planes. An airplane by it's nature wants to fly, and if not interfered with too strongly by unusual events or by a deliberately incompetent pilot, it will fly. A helicopter does not want to fly. It is maintained in the air by a variety of forces in opposition to each other, and if there is any disturbance in this delicate balance the helicopter stops flying; immediately and disastrously.
maxmax Posted September 25, 2011 Author Posted September 25, 2011 I can read the distance, no problem there. So no overheating :)
Nate--IRL-- Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 It is too dark. If the Shkval can't get enough contrast (Low Light conditions) it can't lock on to a target. You will have to fire manually and keep the tracking gate on the target yourself. The Vihkrs shouldn't be going haywire if the laser is intact. nemises Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 yes, low light = no contrast for the Shkval to differentiate and make a lock..Shkcal is day time only (not sure wt what time it is too dark, but sometime around sunset, or "dusk" as it's called soemtimes ;)) You can still Launch vikhrs without a Shkval lock though (though if the target it moving it's hard)...you may need to select "manual" launch mode and make sure the parameters are met manually. *edit* sniped
Bushmanni Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 If the laser range is too short for the distance that you are actually trying to shoot over the Shkval will go out of the guidance mode too early. This is likely usually only in the case of not lasing at all and just firing the Vikrh. The missile will fly just fine for about 2km and then go ballistic for no apparent reason. Other thing would be that you slew the camera too fast, the missile couldn't respond fast enough and it dropped out of the beam. This happens very easily at long range when the guidance beam gets more narrow. The solution is to not slew the Shkval but move the chopper instead. If you can stay completely still in autohover you don't need to correct the aim by slewing the camera at all to hit stationary targets. Altitude hold might not be able to keep the altitude completely stable so you might need to adjust it by yourself. By moving the chopper up or down you can adjust aim more smoothly than by slewing. When the missile is near it's maximum range you can afford only very small, smooth and slow corrections or the missile will lose guidance. StarHopper Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 Just make the skill level of your wingman "ACE", and then turn him loose on 'em. :music_whistling:
spikenet Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 I experienced similar issues when I did that mission a few weeks ago. Took me quite a few tries to finish that one! The key I found is not to loiter to long and get stuck into the targets in the failing light! I adjust the contrast in the shk to see better and once you have a few things on fire its alot easier to lock on them. Also, I keep my wingman busy engaging targets to assist! Landing in the dark is pretty nerve racking on that one to! good luck :)
maxmax Posted October 8, 2011 Author Posted October 8, 2011 Yes, seems to be low light issue. And yes, landing in the dark without nvg is kind of a challenge :) at least they turn on the lights when u ask for landing permission.
