WOW, big size and I don't know for you but where I live my Internet Connection is very poor, never I could download 26GB. :protest:

 

Today when I download DCS World + my modules (A-10C / KA-50 / P-51D / Huey / Mi-8) my PC spend almost 24 hours for have these softwares on my HDD.

 

In the future if DCS is very too big I leave this simulation because it's impossible for me to download this BIG software, I return on FSX because it's not bigest :ranting:

I've searched what is 'clipmaps' technology but I don't really understand.

Is it a sort of level of detail scaling in relation with the distance of the scene, or a kind of dynamic tessellation?

Yes. :P

 

Basically, Tesselation takes a low-detail mesh and makes it more detailed through interpolation.

 

Clipmaps takes a high-detail mesh and reduces detail at longer distances where the high detail is not needed. Sort of. There is overlap.

My understanding of it is blah, but think of it as where the focal point is the most detailed, and it always follows you. Watch towards the end when the camera pans and the detailed parts follows

Does anyone knows why is there a circular "line/pattern" at Groom Lake's Desert?

It's about 2 miles wide! And starts here

Could that be some kind of markings to help with the landing approach? If you look closer, the semi-circle splits and the two ends lead directly to two runways. Maybe to help in the otherwise featureless desert?

You're Kidding me right? FSX took up 200+ GB of my HDD.

Hypothesis:

The texture may be streamed as needed. Something similar to the MegaTexture. So you don't need a huge amount of VRAM.

 

Megatexture is a completely different thing. Megatexture streams compressed pseudo-textures that will never "repeat". It works for corridor-shooters like Rage given the right compute and storage resources, but is not what we are talking about here.

 

Especially since clips deal with mesh primarily. Megatexture is textures-only.

Who needs barbed wire fences anyway, with all signs warning of trespassing, authorized use of lethal force and motion detectors well outside of that point. If someone made it that far in, they wouldn't be there and standing for long.

nevada is looking great. I am however a bit disappointed in the size. compared to the current georgia map it is considerable smaller.

 

that isnt much of a problem with the mud movers and choppers. however, fighters might be a problem the distances are rather short and its gonna pose a problem for mission makes specially in multiplayer.

I am sure it has more to do with Nevada being the test bed for EDGE, I am sure that we will see bigger maps from either ED or 3rd Party once the SDK is release...

I don't know if you know what you talk because FSX have not 26 GB !!

 

FSX + Acceleration: DVD.

My addons: 375 addons (A2A, ORBX, Aerosoft, etc), TOTAL: 115 GB !!

 

In fact for information it's 2 DVD + many thousand addons, if I take my biggest addon it's not 26 GB.

 

MY FSX world is many thousand addons and OF COURSE many years for bought, download and installed my addons.

Never I have download one file with this BIG size: 26 GB...

 

I think that you MUST understand: Where I live in France I have a poor connection internet.

SkateZilla you live at Virginia Beach and maybe you have the chance to have a very good connection but at my home it's not the case, so talk that you know because you don't live in my town...

You could be right, except that question has been asked at least a dozen times just this year. ;)

 

Yeah I'm sure I wouldn't have been the first to ask. I was most curious of what the furthest distance between 2 airfields would be, in hopes that opposing sides aren't basically right on top of each other. Also was interested in the Groom lake area. It was also in relation to time he posted in relation to my searches
