dillio Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 You will have a new shortcut to run BS2 outside of Steam. BS1 will be available through Steam as before. 1
pappavis Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 (edited) I would reccomend a polite petition of their forums if you wish to protest as one of their customers, but I would ask you to refrain from raging :) I got the steam fixed version, downloaded & flying :) BUT a full BS2 on steam would be perfect! Is there any `öfficial´ complaint thread on the Steam forums? Not wantingto start the 200th coimplaint thread. SmukY Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 (edited) I have 2 questions. Is the installer in torrent already updated for the steam installation? And when I install the BS2, can I delete the Steam version? Can this thereafter affect on any future updates? Edited November 12, 2011 by SmukY Helicopters don't fly, they just subdue the air. You can delete the steam version, but you will have to reinstall it, should you need to reinstall BS2 for whatever reason. SmukY Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Yeah, I understand. Like as FC1 and FC2 then. Much appreciated. Helicopters don't fly, they just subdue the air. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
QVidal Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 (edited) I've just downloaded the installer from direct download and from the torrent and neither worked with my Steam version of BS, it keeps saying I that DCS Black Shark must be installed. I thought it was solved but it seems it is not. I sent a ticket 3 days ago but I have not received any reply from ED yet. Any idea of how to solve it? Edited December 2, 2011 by QVidal
amps1963 Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 Doesn't work for me either. I downloaded from the torrent site also.
MeerCaT Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 May or may not be of any use and/or interest to those having installation troubles, but here is the process I followed and it worked for me: [- Operating system: Win 7 - 32 bit] - Steam version of BS1 installed - Downloaded BS2 installer files from DCS website - through FTP links (not torrent) - Installed BS2 (Note, the installer made absolutely no reference to or acknowledgement of the existing BS1 steam installation) - Ran BS2 ...it failed to run! (sorry, can't remember what error message was produced) - I believe BS2 (using the A-10C 'enginey bits' under-the-hood) is intended to be run on 64-bit machine running a 64-bit Windows operating system, (I'm sure someone could confirm or correct me on this) - Followed this advice found within the game's Readme file (to address some memory issue when trying to run it on a 32-bit OS): TIPS AND TRICKS If you having issues with memory management with the 32bit Win 7 or Vista you're using. You can try next tip. - Goto a DOS window by typing CMD into your "search programs and files". - Type "bcdedit /set increaseuserva 3072" without quotes and press Enter. - Restart your PC and see if the texture losses/crashes still occur. You may need to temporarily disable UAC for this to work. - BS2 then worked fine - Uninstalled BS1 - Played BS2 - Got annoyed with the triiiiii..... Don't say it!! - Threw my rattle out the craddle and sulked for a bit - Manned-up and discovered the joys of Flight Director (but don't tell anyone I use this - it's not real life procedure apparently) - Burned some bridges down. (Never mind, private joke) Um... yeah, and that your honour is the whole story. Oh, and I swear she said she was 20. Not a day under 18 at least!
amps1963 Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 I figured it out. You have to have the update files in the same directory as the BS1 launcher. For me it was - C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dcs black shark\bin\x86\stable I hope that helps those having problems.
QVidal Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 I tried to update it with the files in the same directory and it didn't work. I am in contact with Eagle Dynamics support and after several messages to try different things (reinstall BS, delete registry entry,...) I am still unable to install BS2
Krunkskimo Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 You can add executables into your steam libary and even save the game into the steam folders. You'll forget you didnt buy it on steam =)
cs_280zx Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 No, BS2 will not be sold via Steam. yeesh... that blows  i mean, i love proper flight sims, and i know very well they are not the largest following etc. but this just alienates that many more potential players/purchases. fyi. i will not buy it, outside of steam. as i am not very open with my cc etc for purchases... so if it wasnt for steam, i wouldnt have bought ka50 or a10 in the first place. please consider this when deciding for or against another purchase/delivery channel for your game supporters. thanks carl It's better having to wait for something great than having nothing great to wait for.

Lipoly Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 I agree w/cs_280zx...I bought both games only b/c of Steam...I just recommended Ka50 to a Distinguished Flying Cross (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distinguished_Flying_Cross_(United_States))) Vietnam Huey pilot looking for sims due to its reputation. I have so far seen no reason to blame Steam for this...they allow addons for all sorts of games...why is DCS any different? You should be aware that it is Steam that does not wish to deal with ED, not the other way around. Can you explain? I just started researching this issue, so excuse me if it has been explained.

Thanks cichlidfan: This blows my mind...they treat no other developer like this under normal circumstances...I feel it must be the way DCS decides to distribute their addons (although doesn't explain the "Silence").
cichlidfan Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 What ever the issue may be, it would be out of character for ED (or any other business entity) to discuss a matter of that sort publicly. ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! Lipoly Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 What ever the issue may be, it would be out of character for ED (or any other business entity) to discuss a matter of that sort publicly. Not sure I agree with that, many businesses have discussed issues w/Steam publicly (including the giant EA) ... http://www.1up.com/news/crysis-2-pulled-from-steam-ea-says-valve-to-blame EA - "Steam has imposed a set of business terms for developers hoping to sell content on that service -- many of which are not imposed by other online game services," the statement reads. "Unfortunately, Crytek has an agreement with another download service which violates the new rules from Steam and resulted in its expulsion of Crysis 2 from Steam."
cichlidfan Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Maybe ED is different from EA and others but I stand by my statement that ED is unlikely to elaborate. Lipoly Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Maybe ED is different from EA and others but I stand by my statement that ED is unlikely to elaborate. Well, I tend to agree w/you since they have not provided a reason even given how long this issue has been raised.
