A quick question (I can't keep the bird in the air)

Hey everyone.

I've been messing around in the Black Shark, and am having a problem keeping the chopper in the sky.

Basically I'm finding that once I reach higher speeds, I hear a warning tone (beep beep beep) which I believe is linked to my rotor RPM. If I lower the throttle and slow down a bit, the beeping stops. If I don't, the beeping changes to a much higher pitch, then the tips of the rotors break off, and I fall to the ground.

One of my friends has been playing as well, and says he constantly has the throttle maxed, and has never had either tone beep.

So if you know whats going on that would be great!

If you want me to I'll attach a track.

Thanks!

The beeping is the over speed warning. You are going to fast.

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

Basically over 270km/hr Hard Left Cyclic or Hard right rudder is likely to lead to "Fiery Rotor-less Death"

At about 290-300 km/hr you get the over speed warning, so be very very careful on the controls. Best course of action is the nose up and dump collective, to slow down and ease pressure on the rotors.

Note the throttle does not equal collective. Leave the throttle alone, it is automatic.

the blade tips falling off is caused by top top rotor intersecting with the bottom rotor.

At increased speed, the flex (or flap) of the blades becomes dangerous, hence why there is a speed warning.

Wow, so many replies so fast.

When I say throttle, I meant the on my joystick, which controls the collective.

I guess I'll just keep my speed down then :)

Thanks for that, if you don't mind, keep an eye on this thread, I'm playing now and if I have any other questions I'll ask them in here.

Use high speed for getting places 'fast', but not for maneuvering. You probably won't need max power either, usually, and you have to control your collective carefully as your speed changes as well.

For almost everything else (especially climbing), the most efficient speed is 130kph IAS.

This article over at SimHQ describes what's happening to your rotor blades at high airspeeds: http://www.simhq.com/_air13/air_427a.html

It'll help you unterstand what happens to your rotorblades at high airspeeds and why it happens.

BTW, just for the fun of it, you may also climb to 3000 or 4000 meters, drop collective to it's lowest setting and dive nose down. It's quite possible to reach 400+ kph and still get the chopper back to save flight parameters. Just remember to keep the collective down to avoid rotor blade intersection unless you're well below 300 kph IAS. :-)

(The above is true for BS 1.0.2, not sure if anything changed in BS2)
