i thought that the A10 avionics was as updated as it was going to get. you mean there's more?

if im not mistaken, isn't the JHMCS already incorporated? you would just need the new helmet?

The avionics of the A-10C are constantly getting updated, the "suite" we have in the sim is older than the latest suite currently available.

Hajduk, ED are working on Dedis, but there's no specific due date yet, AFAIK. News when appropriate. But be assured that ED wants to make one available.
Thanks for the info.

I think according to Paulkri the sim is suite 3 and IRL they're on about six. Something like that.

Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing

I would like to state my hope that the Combined Arms addon will be structured in such a way that will result in the absolutely unironic use of the phrase "We can't hold them off much longer."

Whether by binding player(s) to a specific ground unit or building or some other kind of mechanic, I think having them be able to be in immanent danger would make things exponentially more fun.

For when it goes wrong: Win10x64, GTX1080, Intel i7 @3.5 GHz, 32GB DDR3, Warthog HOTAS, Saitek combat rudder pedals, TrackIR 5 / Vive Pro, a case of Pabst, The Funk

Have a look at this ppt.

http://www.palmettoroost.org/documents/DARPA_RealWorld_Brief.ppt

Slide 18. Recognize anything?

Note suite 5.0 is completed and suite 6.0 is shown as late summer 2010. Wonder if any of this will filter down to the our DCS A-10Cs?

Also interesting some of the other slides such as #20.

Cheers

USAF needs to get these guys better stick and throttles though...

Oh man, you'd think they atleast would have given them a trackIR.

What for? They're just there to learn the switchology of their new systems, not to simulate flight, AFAIK. They have the real plane for that.

At least a HOTAS Warthog if not a TIR.

Predator Reaper DTS or DTS AC-130?

(also interesting to see Carl Norman of TIS still with links to TFC)

Neither. It was teaching something useless IMHO but using DTS A10.

A TIR at least helps you navigate through the 3D virtual cockpit much more easily, and lets you get your head around to see switches that can be blocked by things like the flight stick or throttle. So a TIR would have been useful even for just learning switchology. Besides... it's the government... you would think they could have afforded that, after spending all the money paying ED for the DTS and buying the computers. It's not like a $150 head tracking system is a lot of money to a government whose national debt now is approaching twice the value of all the gold ever mined in the history of the human race (this is at current gold prices).

Intelligent discourse can only begin with the honest admission of your own fallibility.

They don't need to. They just need to learn the stick&throttle and MFDs AFAIK. TIR not needed.

They are training on one aspect of the cockpit which is already right in front of them. Face it, if the stick did not matter then being able to see consoles that are not changed surely was not important.

Besides, you don't need all your students leaning all over the place to see what they can see with TIR and going "Wow, this is cool" while they are supposed to be learing stuff!;)
