stop it!!! we are talking about helicopters, not computer games....

Even the stick is on the wrong position, cheap home-brew cockpit...

My better comment is:

Some things are as easy as it can be, and some are next-to impossible. Both at the same time.

You have to adopt to the machine. You have to think "kamov".

(Maybe all russians always think like that??)

That´s wat i like. The elegance of of a hard wired machine. If you know what to do, the machine doesn´t get into your way....

This video-game is not even user-friendly. It must be played by two highly trained men together.

But our old-fashioned Kamov can be played by only one noob like us :D

And I support the notion that ED should be developing this aircraft for DCS.

:shocking: ...are there any clues, or is it only a heli-fan dream?

Your thoughts?

What peeps said already. The Shark is harder to fly but has pretty straightforward avionics and weapons systems (unless you want to delve into the ABRIS bigtime), whereas the Hog is easier to fly but systems-wise much more comprehensive and complicated (and thus also the better overall weapons platform).

I personally am much more proficient with the Shark - but then, I'm still learning the ins and outs of the Hawg yet :smartass:

The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.

The shark lets you stay out of horizontal range of many threats (assuming you see them). I find threat avoidance in the 'Hog quite tricky (apart from trying to stay high above AAA and IR SAMs)

+1 with Rusty.

IMHO, flying the Black Shark, in battle you are Army.

You are close to the enemy, you can fight him as you can see him. Its more personal taste, but there is more immersion. ( again its subjective, so its IMHO) The sim is more satisfying, as someone mentioned, I find it elegant in its challenge to fly and fight well. Lack of 21st century avionics means you have to be creative. The first campaign in the BS is my personal favourite. Its totally immersive. There arnt many?

Flying the a10, in battle, you are Air Force.

In later wars the a10 could not be used as intended. The guys ended up dropping ordinance, ( LGB's included) from 15,000', to avoid SHORAD stuff. The same in the sim. Fly down low and watch your arse get fragged. The sim is a complete a10. Its pit switchology is spot on. I find it less interesting to fly than the Shark. Maybe I am just an old Marine at heart?:music_whistling:

Wish list.....The AH-64, with Iraq and Afgan theatres. Or.........Go for broke the JSF with the full monty..Distributed Aperture System...VSTOL, naval versions, modern scenario...ie Brits defending the Falklands with the new carrier...or the US v's Iran in the Gulf??:D Oh and a dynamic campaign system please....Price? You name it, I'll buy it.

Unlikely. The AH-1Z Viper is the latest model of the (Super)Cobra. With ED sticking to pretty much previous models of modern aircraft (minus Legends), I would suspect that if they were to release a rotor aircraft,

.

But yeah, minus the obvious lack of weapons employment, that's pretty much the A-10 on a helicopter.

Damn sexy.

Just an aside, but Deployment is actually one the best static campaigns ever made IMO :)

Absolutely...:yay:

The essence ( IMHO) is immersion. It does not take much. Some personalised speech. Like the chat in Deployment. Just what you would do...well some of us anyway! Small nuances like that are enhancement factors. In a simulation I require the " suspension of disbelief". A war scenario with different ways to win and loose. Some "dice roll" branches in the code and that adds the "go back to it" factor.

What happened to that concept in the later campaigns...?

Which is harder? Hmmm....I always thought they were both equally difficult. But if I had to pick one, it would be the BS. The A-10 never made me want to drink large quantities of vodka.....

It's not the fall that gets you. It's the Godawful sudden stop at the end.

Both static campaigns are great, but I like the first 5 or 6 missions in Medvedev II better than Deployment. Some of them are really good for 4 OFP2 pods. Also I did not care for some of the wingman dialogue in Deployment; like that lame weirdo talking about skiing with his dad.

If you mean the GOW campaign(s), what happened was that Matt made more than 100 hand-crafted missions. I think you can see that there's less time for finesse when you do something that big. :)

All flash and no fury!:lol::lol: !

Even if you say something like "All flash and no fury!" I still believe that this is the most sexy looking helicopter out there and is definitely my favorite in terms of looks.

Failure is the mother of all success.

Somehow I always felt that the Cobra looked like an AT-ST that got crashed by a bunch of annoying little furry primitives with a bunch of trees.

I just got A10 about a month ago and I'm thinking about getting BS2 now but I've been wondering if anyone who has both would like to comment on which one they think is more challenging ? I suspect Black Shark might be the tougher of the two when it comes to controlling the aircraft. Your thoughts ?

I only play in full sim mode either A-10C or Ka-50.

I think the helicopter is much more of a challenge than the A-10C Warthog. The only other helicopter sim I have played was the Microprose "Gunship" (Apachie) for my Commodore 64 back in the 1980's; and learning that was a challenge at the time, fun, though. The DCS: Black Shark is at least 10 times more difficult to learn than Gunship was and by a factor of 10 is probably an under-rating. But me at age 60, I am sure has something to do with my slow learning progress. Enjoy your youth, it gets worse!

A-10C is a slow learning curve and I am still playing with that, too. I just bought a much faster PC, Alienware, around Christmas, 2nd generation i7 CPU, dual SLI mode, a dual RAID Array0, and overclocked at 3.9GHz. I came back to DCS in February 2012. I have not played since September last year and it took a few days to remember the manual startup process and I have the Maverick down. I use TGP to locate my target, then switch to the Maverick. I managed 3 Mavericks to 3 different rolling targets before I turned around. I still need to learn the other weapon systems. I use Konkussion's .map for my CH gear trio. I did a Google search and he was top of the list. He was very helpful and friendly.

What makes Black Shark really difficult is I have CH Products gear. I use the CH Control Manager. I found to CH Hanger, Capn_Crunch's .map which just setting the Controls up in Options is quite a task.

If I ever can leave the ground for 5 seconds into a hover will be quite an accomplishment.

I like Dragon's MissionPack using the A-10C Warthog, but it only runs in Multiplayer. I play it in my own LAN in Multiplayer because the other Internet servers keep bouncing me off whether they reset their setup or whatever. It really ticks me off, I play in sim mode so on the server it usually is setup with no shortcuts. I get myself to the target area and then just like that somebody resets the program. I setup my LAN, solo, just for me, in Multplayer; I can play all day without anybody pestering me. Yesterday my ping rate in LAN was 16. My ping rate in an Internet server is usually around a 100 to 150 ping rate using somebody else's server. Any higher ping rate is just to slow for me and my DSL only runs at less than 4 Mega Bytes per second download speed broadband. Come September 2012 I will be able to switch to cable Internet that runs at around 30 mega bytes per second download that should make life a bit easier in Multiplayer mode. USA, FCC, I think limits the USA broadband output. I know one guy in Europe here runs at around 100 mega bytes per second download speed broadband.

I love DCS. Just keep making new planes or helicopters to buy. I would like to see the Apache Gunship.

Blackshark was way easier for me. Trough the a-10c feels farmiliar cause of LOFC2, it's computers etc are hard to learn. With the blackshark it took me 2 days to learn how to startup, fly, shoot etc, while the a-10 is a bugger.

The KA-50 I woud say is harder to FLY in combat than the A-10C. The A-10 likes to fly and the KA-50 want's to kill you every chance it gets. The KA-50 is all about flying skils first systems second. The A-10 is the other way around. So depending on what you like or dis like learning the question can be ansered both ways.

I have all three, LOMAC, A-10C and Ka-50. LOMAC is the easiest to grasp out of the three. A-10C and Ka-50 both have their own difficulties.

A-10C:

Easy flight characteristics (Realistic)

Mapping the HOTAS and remembering your map (Saitek x52)

Long (realistic) sequences to launch weapons

Very involved mission editor

Ka-50:

Complex flight characteristics (Realistic)

Easy HOTAS mapping

Easy weapons employment

To conclude, it really depends on your preference. If you are big helo fan, you will probably find Ka-50 easy and A-10C hard. I find A-10C easy to play. With that being said, I sat and read the manual for a week before attempting to play either sim. I made a start-up pdf for A-10C but after a couple of flights, you won't need the look at the start-up sequences.

Thanks for all the great responses. Well BS2 went on sale today (Spring Sale) so I couldn't resist any longer. It's downloading now heh. You'll recognize me out there. I'll be the guy who is upside and on fire on the runway.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy and I've had both.
