Daniel M Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 So my friend and I usually team up in bf3 in the attack choppers. He is normally the gunner, but we've started to switch up and he's becoming a decent pilot. Any suggestions on how I can convince him to make the step up to BS2? (Which i love). He's played IL2 and other flight sim only games... :pilotfly:

Daniel M Posted April 3, 2012 Author Posted April 3, 2012 Great suggestion! That was what made me buy :D. I think my biggest battle will be "no unlocks"......(which frustrates me because of the depth of all of the systems/environments everything is an unlock!!)
Rusty_M Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 You unlock knowledge! The world is going mad. Me? I'm doing fine! http://www.twitch.tv/rusty_the_robot https://www.youtube.com/user/RustyRobotGaming
Yurgon Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 Yeah, GA makes great movies. Personally, I like this one even better (from a "look what you can do with Black Shark" point of view).

hassata Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 Just a poor attempt at humor. MacGruber is trying to convince the lieutenant to join his team. Top movie (imho), in case you haven't seen it. Also, damn but GA is talented. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

starkey817 Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Daniel M, try to explain to your friend that the reward for this sim goes above and beyond just grinding out your next unlock. The reward is learning the start-up procedure, successfully taking off your first time, finding a target and deploying your weapons system, or simply showing off on a multiplayer server how low you can fly before demonstrating a controlled flight into terrain (CFIT) accident haha. There are soooooooo many things to learn with this sim that the reward becomes knowledge. Just learning how to fly the Ka-50 proficiently is quite a challenge. I spent the first month playing this game nearly every day just learning how to take off, navigate, and land before I ever fired a weapon. I've been trying out plenty of games since I started this sim (BFBC2, BF3, MW3, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Skyrim) and I keep coming back to this sim. I've been flying since last June and I still find myself flipping through the manual or reading the forums learning something new to do with the shark. I've also spent countless hours playing around with the mission editor to create practice missions where I can try different things and master techniques. This game is amazing, and if your friend has any interest in aviation (along with a pc that can run it hah) then its worth checking out. Hope he joins the community and have fun flying!
Beagle One Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 If you want someone to stay a friend, never try to convince him to anything he does not like by himself. I tried for 10 years, but none of the friends I have left like sim games. On the other hand...they could never convince me to play WoW Aion or Guild Wars.
power5 Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Damnit why did I come back to this forum after so long away. Now I need to get a new VC and BS2. That BS2 GA video shows improper technique for landing on ship. At 10 ft or so you cut power completely. Usually get so bent that it sticks to the ship perfectly. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Aaron i7 2600k@4.4ghz, GTX1060-6gb, 16gb DDR3, T16000m, Track IR5 BS2-A10C-UH1-FC3-M2000-F18C-A4E-F14B-BF109
Krebs20 Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Just buy him a copy and tell him to play. I have 3 freind who play everything together. If I can get at least one to play. The others will follow. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Daniel M Posted April 5, 2012 Author Posted April 5, 2012 Thanks for all of the suggestions Sent the youtuber videos and phrased it that unlocks are learning the systems, tactics, etc. We'll see what he says
Bodo Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 @Hassata. Class film!! Ridiculous, but pretty funny. You should check out Hot Rod if ya haven't seen it. On topic, just tell him it's good and he's a dick if he can't start the engine on the black shark as fast as you can. bet him 20 quid that he can't do it in 2 days...:) Corsair 550D / Be Quiet 650W Pro 10 / ASUS P8Z77-V Pro / Intel i5 3570K / 16GB Kingston HyperX 1600 MHz / EVGA GTX 970 SC ACX2 4GB / 128GB Samsung 830 / RME HDSPe Multiface 2 / 1TB Samsung F3 / Prolimatech Megalames Rev. Well said Starkey817. With the new mission editor features, one can really begin building missions which simulate real world situations. With that in mind, and with human wingmen, you can really simulate the combat situation and tactics of the real world...without the real fear, stress or death.:smilewink:

soupyc Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Not everyone is so willing to jump in headfirst to a 'game' (outsider view) that requires the same amount of time for training as you'd spend in most triple-A titles to complete the game. I had to convince a good friend of mine to pick up A-10 by way of videos and just talking it up. He's now way into it, we fly regularly, but if I hadn't expended the effort, I'd have one less good buddy to fly the virtual skies with!
