Speckfire, are you meaning some variant of the MiG-25? If someone implement this airplane this will be a blast :) 104th Cobra [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Serxio_ Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 Speckfire, are you meaning some variant of the MiG-25? If someone implement this airplane this will be a blast :) Exactly! This plane set records that are still hasn't been beaten! (if i'm not mistaken it's still fastest airplane ever). If you're not just counting ones that take off themselves then the X-15 is the fastest known manned plane ever. Then there are jets like Aurora that are rumoured to exist :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] First to Fight, First to Strike.

louisv Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 SR-71 is the fastest, the X-15 is not an airplane and the Soviets had everyone believe that the Mig-25 was faster... But one was captured (landed in Japan, the pilot wanted out...) and it was determined that the airframe could not have supported such speeds. It was mostly propaganda. The 25 is fast but not that fast, probably mach 2.5 fast ( but for how long ?). louisv Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 (edited) There is something weird about those two aircrafts, the SR-71 and the MiG 25, the SR-71 was made of titanium sheets, which was not available in America at the time (early sixties). The titanium was there, the problem was working with the titanium to make sheets. Only the Soviets could do that, and that is weird because the Foxbat was made of nickel steel...which is why it could not sustain such high speeds for long, being heavier from the steel and weapons (the 71 had cameras only). The engine was overtaxed with all the additional weight. So if the Soviets could work titanium, why didn't they use it ? And how the hell did the Americans get it ? There is a spy novel in there :D Edited June 15, 2012 by louisv MSI Z170A Titanium Edition mobo + 6700K CPU 32 GB G.Skill TridentZ memory 3200 MHz Sandisk Extreme Pro 256 GB SSD Samsung 950 Pro 512 GB M.2 SSD (3 GB/s) for DCS and +. RoaringBones Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 The 25 has had interesting encounters with F-15's and 16's though ;) course the F-16 shot one down

F l a n k e r Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 Interesting....any kind of reference to that ? Viktor Belenko, the pilot that defected in Japan, reported that the MiG-25 was theoretically capable to reach over Mach 3, but there were heating, controllability and engine limitations. Max operative speed was 2.83 Mach at high altitude. I found http://www.wvi.com/~sr71webmaster/mig25.html and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viktor_Belenko And, for this, I suppose the MiG-25 is the fastest turbojet engine aircraft (the Blackbird is a sort of mix between turbojet and a ramjet).

GGTharos Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 So nothing. They're not even close. MiG-25 - a turbojet powered fighter. F-14 and F-15, turbofan powered fighters, both with higher g-tolerance than the MiG-25. So...I would love to see how sure you are about that considering these airframes are vastly different not to mention the F-14 is a Swept wing.
