Hello

I just got a new Dell u2711 and the DCS a-10 looks amazing. But The cockpit isnt displayed like it was before with my 1280x1024 set. Im assuming one of the reasons for this is in the options there is no cockpit resolution above 1024 and because obviously the different format.

I can improve sort of by zooming out a bit but things look a bit distorted for example the "A pillars" on the front window look extra fat.

What can I do to get a more natural feel to the cockpit like it was before??

Thanks

At least part of the problem is that your FOV is now a lot different. I have the same monitor and it looks fine to me but I also switched up from monitor with similar aspect ratio.

The 1024 you are refering to is for the resolution of the MFDs and mirrors. It has nothing to do with your overall screen resolution or appearance.

I use Aspect: 4:3

Resolution: 1920x1080

But that's my monitor. Try experimenting with the aspect.

Where are you setting those? They don't go together.

At standard zoom I can see both mfcd screens but the buttons at the bottom of the mfcd are just below the bottom of the screen (half visible). The HUD is mostly visible the black outline of the reflector window for the hud is not visible on the top and only half the G meter is visible.

Is that about how yours looks?

what is your 2711's brightness level set to?

going from a 19" to this monitor is like whoa!

If I wanted a bit wider FOV what ula file do I edit to make natural zoom point a bit wider?

thanks

any aspect ratio other than 16:9 seems to cause stretching of the image as one would expect. the u2711 is a 16:9 advertised monitor and seems to work best using that ratio.

As for edge distortion there appears to be some with the cockpit "a pillars" the pillar where the canopy meets the front window. As you turn your head it gets narrower not really a big issue I dont think.

Just made this video to show that my setting do work. Sorry for low resolution (has a quicker upload time).

it says its private. :/

using 4:3 on DSC a-10 on my u2711 causes wicked stretching of the image everything that is round looks oval.

maybe want to edit your cockpit view position according this this instruction:

> Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C\Config\View\SnapViewsDefault.lua

Annotation in green tells you what each line controls - all values can be negative/positive and decimal

You want to probably tilt your view a little down in line #1060 to something like -25

Thanks Peter

That FOV adjustment is just what I was looking for I set it to 85 and it was good and then tried 90 and I felt right at home. Looks pretty amazing!

Now maybe its time for a head tracker too :)

I guess I have one last question regarding the dell u2711 mostly off topic but one thing I noticed was blu-ray movies actually look a bit grainy. It looks a lot like ISO noise (to anyone familiar with photography) Im assuming this is normal and due to image being unscaled from 1080 to 1440. Im also using correl win dvd pro 11 to play the blu ray.

Im also using the sRGB color profile

I would be thankful for any additional tips that may help fully utilize this new monitor.

Thanks again

Looks off to me, mate. For best results, use your monitor's native res and aspect ratio.

Ouch, yes. Why render 4:3 to a 16:9 display, Sceptre? Or do you like 'em short and stocky? :D

Have to agree with you guys, rendering 4:3 to a 16:9 display is just bizarre. Maybe it is a personal preference?

Looks distorted a bit to me as well but whatever works. I did not think the sim would do that, never tried.

I'll keep mine at 16:9. ;)

Gun, When watching the blu rays just switch to 1920*1080 always use the native aspect of the monitor and do try to use the native resolutions also for the sharpest picture. Video boards usually give many resolutions that don't fit the monitor aspect ignore these and only use the resolutions that match the aspect of the monitor. When You view a circle drawn on the monitor it should always be "round" not oval. And You were correct to change the Field of View. For the most accurate view You should use the actual angle from Your eyes to the edges of the monitor-not practical for single monitors. So after You get the head tracker go for triple monitors!

I have a 27 in screen I think.... I never knew I was running at wrong res. It seems perfectly normal to me. Anyway, I'll look into it more.
