Evil.Bonsai Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Just tried as OP posted: got a miss with mav on "civilian traffic" targets in mav training mission. Did not try in mission editor.
mvsgas Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 (edited) Civilian traffic is not really made to be targets AFAIK. Firing a Mav to them is like firing at any point in the ground. TGP or the Shkval should not track them. Edited July 1, 2012 by mvsgas To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Thank you for you patience. Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..
Wolfie Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 (edited) OP, have you tried hitting any "military" targets? The civilian targets may not be "real". I've never tried to hit any cars or such, though it sounds like fun! Hey, Lady! Edited July 1, 2012 by Wolfie "Isn't this fun!?" - Inglorious Bastards "I rode a tank, held a general's rank / When the Blitzkrieg raged, and the bodies stank!" - Stones.
Paganus Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Yep Wolfie hit it... There are real targets, those units placed on the map. Then there is a switch you can flip to have "civ traffic" driving around on the roads. They are not real. They have no collision detection, like trees. So while you can lock and fire a mav at them it will not track, and even if it did the truck would not be harmed because it's just window dressing.
Wolfie Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Yeah, I'm surprised it even locks. "Isn't this fun!?" - Inglorious Bastards "I rode a tank, held a general's rank / When the Blitzkrieg raged, and the bodies stank!" - Stones.
Frogisis Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Huh, that hasn't been my experience with the civilian traffic - Once I was attacking a column of tanks on a road, and a truck decided to drive by right then, and as it was passing right by the tank I wanted to hit, the Maverick seeker locked onto the truck instead and took it out after it had passed in front of the tank column. Another time I was doing CAS over a large engagement and kept locking onto little civilian cars on the road, thinking they were part of an armor column passing by. I ended up turning the civ traffic down to "medium" since I don't think most people would blithely drive through the middle of a raging tank battle, though I get the idea of their being an extra challenge by getting in the way. I'm not specifically trying to target them so this hasn't happened very often, but it did seem to be possible. Maybe they were made "ghostly" in a more recent version. For when it goes wrong: Win10x64, GTX1080, Intel i7 @3.5 GHz, 32GB DDR3, Warthog HOTAS, Saitek combat rudder pedals, TrackIR 5 / Vive Pro, a case of Pabst, The Funk
Tailgate Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 I've taken out civ vehicles with CBU-97's that happen to be driving near targeted tank columns, so they're definitely not ghosts, at least in v1.1.1.1.
joey45 Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 You save the track after you exit. On the debrief screen. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. "Me, the 13th Duke of Wybourne, here on the ED forums at 3 'o' clock in the morning, with my reputation. Are they mad.." https://ko-fi.com/joey45
Evil.Bonsai Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 You save the track after you exit. On the debrief screen. In general, yes. In the training mission, you basically exit back to the training screen.
JCamel Posted July 1, 2012 Author Posted July 1, 2012 just setup a mission in the editor, a-10c in the air with mavs, set some targets up, engage the targets, replicate the behaviour. then save track Training mission works fine for me with the mavs also inside the sims directory there is a docs folder, in there is a big pdf manual, give it a read and see if you can spot your mistake :) I am off to bed now its 01:44 here, but someone will help you if you ask nice. relax, its a big learning curve for the A-10c :) EDIT: Why are you shooting civilians anyway lol I haven't got as far as figuring out how to use the editor yet. I am not making a mistake. I read that section of the manual before even posting. Yes the training aspect of that mission works fine but if you scan the road near the range for a moving vehicle and then lock on in the same way that you lock onto targets on the range, it will miss. Has anyone tried this? I'm shooting at civilians because: a) It's a game and b) I wanted to test it against a moving target. Maybe the developers set it up not to engage civilian vehicles properly. If the telegraph pole takes off after you, it is not a telegraph pole.

KiwiPete Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 How about trying the easy quick mission thingy with unlimited ammo? Practice lots! Use the mav to take out everything...the moving column at Steerpoint 6 has AAA cover - good luck! Science doesn't have all the answers...but at least it's asking the right questions! Jona33 Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Replicated in the mission editor. (1.1.2.1.) Three mavericks fired, one at 2.5 miles on a civ car which misses, one at 4 miles on a train which misses and one at 4 miles on a civ car which misses. AGM-65D over shoot.trk (And a belly landing for fun. :D) Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing

JCamel Posted July 1, 2012 Author Posted July 1, 2012 Civilian traffic is not really made to be targets AFAIK. Firing a Mav to them is like firing at any point in the ground. TGP or the Shkval should not track them. It does seem to track them. The sensor tracks them on the MAV sensor screen and the missile manages to find the exact correct direction but flies over the vehicle instead of into it. LGBs will also try and track but will only work with long lase times and on vehicles moving away from the release point (probably due to the mobility constraints of steering itself just with fins off a basic ballistic trajectory). I will try tracking moving military vehicles in another mission setup when I get a chance. I've just done the sidewinder training. Found it tricky but managed in the end.:) If the telegraph pole takes off after you, it is not a telegraph pole.

JCamel Posted July 1, 2012 Author Posted July 1, 2012 (edited) I can confirm, it's just an issue with civilian vehicles. I re-did the start-up training mission but took off after it with 2 AGM-65s and there were some moving tanks by the range - hit 2 dead on. Repeated mission but hit one moving tank and then tried to hit civilian vehicle and failed. Edited July 1, 2012 by JCamel If the telegraph pole takes off after you, it is not a telegraph pole.

JCamel Posted July 1, 2012 Author Posted July 1, 2012 For the record, the vehicles I missed with the Maverick got the GAU-8 anyway because I always HUD SPI mark them using the TGP as well. If the telegraph pole takes off after you, it is not a telegraph pole.
