I've died three times, but have pushed the Georgians out of Abkhazia while learning to fly in this definitely-not-tutorial campaign.

And I was wondering how experienced flyers handle the series of attack/defense missions.

With my standoff weapons, I tend to simply circle around over my own lines at 2000m, launching Vikhrs and rarely getting into range of their AAA. It gets boring, sometimes.

And yet the mission gives me cluster bombs, which I cannot imagine ever successfully using and getting out alive. Not only do I suck with bombs (were they made more inaccurate since LOMAC?) even with the superior FCS of the Su-25T, but I don't know how you are supposed to stand up against SAMs without using the cheap F6 views and psychically evading the missiles. You can't very well hug the deck because so many of the Frogfoot's weapons don't work well at low altitudes.

Do players with the experience and good joysticks pull this sort of stuff off?

Edit: And come to think of it, was this campaign designed for the Hokum and just dropped into DCS: World?

I do find it hard to locate the SAMS sometimes.

I tend to run in from 12km-15km away and search for targets. Then use my longer range missiles to take out the SAMS and break off after each launch. then roll in and take out the armour with vikhrs.

Cluster bomb can be effective for larger groups of lighter armour vehicles but I tend to change my loadout to missiles and vikhrs.

Mods I use: KA-50 JTAC - Better Fire and Smoke - Unchain Rudder from trim KA50 - Sim FFB for G940 - Beczl Rocket Pods Updated!

Processor: Intel Q6600 @ 3.00GHz

GPU: GeForce MSI RTX 2060 6GB

RAM: Crucial 8GB DDR2

HDD: 1TBGB Crucial SSD

OS: Windows 10, 64-bit

Peripherals: Logitech G940 Hotas, TrackiR 5, Voice Activated commands , Sharkoon 5.1 headset. ,Touch Control for iPad, JoyToKey

Hmm... I'm not sure but I think that, same as the SU-25T, the campaign was designed for Flamming Cliffs (LOMAC) and carried into DCS World.

Regarding the campaign itself I cann't comment because I'm still trainning myself :D

So far I'm able to get into the kill zone of an SPAAA "Gepard" and get out alive... well most of the times I mean :P... I even went crazy a couple of times and tried to destroy it using just the SU-25T gun but never was able to do it...

why don't you create a single mission, put some enemy SAM and practice with your counter meassures? It can be as fun as frustrating...

Edit: I don't know about the campaign but som standalone missions for the SU-25T have a fly group assined to SEAD... if they are available then wait for them to complete theirs jobs before running in...

The thing about the campaign is that you never have SEAD (although there is nothing bigger than an Osa on the map and no hostile air), and there is often too much AAA to take out.

I play the game pretty cheap, using F7 and F6 to track units and missiles, but I would still die if I started doing bomb or gun runs.

I Use this loadout

Fantasmagoria pod, 2x mps410, 2x kh58u, 2xVikhr, 2xkh25ml and 2xr73

The 58's for the long/medium sam's, the 25ml's for shilkas since they start tracking at shorter range. The 73's for defence purposes not for pursuit! The vikhr's to do the rest.

The above loadout suits me best in the war. Personally tried different loadouts and always came back to this. Btw when you unloaded the ordnance RTB, reevluate, change loadout if needed run in again.

You can always cheat and use the mission editor to find the SAMs and set waypoints accordingly. Call it DCS satellite surveillance.

Well, knowing where is the enemy is a big advantage and allows to plan ahead but those SAMs will still shoot at whatever enemy gets into their firing range... so I think our best bed is to learn how to interpret/use the SPO-15 "Beryoza" Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) and respond with some counter measures and maneuvering...

Have a look at

... is for the SU-27 but AFAIK its the same RWR as the one used in the SU-25T

Yep... that's basically a SEAD loadout with Vikhr added, isn't it?

It will get the job done for sure... the ELINT pod is quite handy.

Only the 58's are anti radar, the 25ml's are laserguided. So you still have to find those shilkas, if no shilkas are present i use them against AAA batteries

Doesn't the Phamtasmagoria pod or the RWR detect the shilka's radar in DCS World? Crap... I have a lot to learn :music_whistling:

Found this thread apparently the ELINT pod picks the shilka's radar but we need still to use a Vikhr...

The RWR does but its shortlenght wave so best to spot when its firing at you or your wingmen or by RWR then use the shkval to lock it up and finish it off with either the 25's or the Vikhr's

Switch out the 25 Ml's for 25 MPU's , Shorter range AR than the 58's but they should home on to the Tors and Tanguskas.

But the RWR is just going to tell me what I already know... the vague location of AAA. It's not going to help me overfly the air defenses or know when to pop chaff when I'm trying to use those cluster bombs the mission gives me by default... right?

Speaking of Georgian Oil War, is there any way to skip missions through cheating or modifying files?

I spent over an hour flying an exhausting, victorious defense of Ochamchira, only to have the next mission (to chase routing units) crash to desktop and magically reset time to the prior mission.

And this time I can't find my crash dumps either. Anyone know where they are?

Surely it's easy with radar guided SAMs anyway, just look for the diamond???

I just don't take the Phantasmagoria pod. It seems sort of gamey to dual-role SEAD and ground attack.

Or rather, I need the space for KH-29s and KH-25ML because the #(&$@*^$(&% Vikhrs drop straight into the ground every third shot and can't be relied upon to take out large numbers of vehicles.

Where's that patch?

Just want to note that the Beriosa will tell you where the most dangerous radiating threat is. If you pay attention to it, it'll help you avoid radar guided missiles. That's what it's designed to do and it does it reasonably well most of the time. So, yes, it'll help you to overfly areas to stay clear of radar-guided SAMs and, if you run into one, it'll help you know when to throw are armfuls of chaff. It's biggest drawback is that, unlike American RWRs, it doesn't maintain a visual overview for you.

Exactly... I'm not fully aware of Beryoza's capabilities but I can assure than it will warn you when a missile is being guided towards your aircraft, with a different tone than if the sam is just tracking you, but is up to the pilot to fire counter-measures... (may be is time to ask manuel for those capabilities)

Last night I was practicing some SEAD against a Patriot System (radar, command center and 4 launchers) and Interestingly I noticed that when doing hard turns at high speed the RWR stops warning you for a couple of seconds then resumes the warning... I'm wondering if is a Beryoza's behavior or if is the patriot loosing track of the aircraft due to the maneuver?

That's you losing the Patriot, not the other way around.

If you want a more indepth tutorial on the Beriosa, click my sig. It'll take you to the Flankertraining website. You'll find the tutorial under the SEAD link. You have to download the video. It runs 40 minutes and will explain a lot of what you're experiencing.

Most of you guys are talking about changing your loadout. How do you do that in a campaign where it starts you on the runway?

(Oops, old thread. Question still stands.)

Click on Mission Planner before entering the pit.

When I click Mission Planner, I get a blank, light-blue screen and I have to alt-tab out and kill DCS in order to do anything. I had the same problem in both Steam and the ED installer version.
