DAZnBLAST Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 I Just recently decided to get back into the simulation game. I've bought A10C (it lured me in lol) and built a computer to hopefully run it. I have a couple of questions, I hope you can help with, apologies if I've missed the answer to them anywhere: Q1 Do I need to download DCS World? Q2 My PC build is; i7 3770k, 8gb 1600 ram, GTX560ti 448 edition. Will this build run DCS ok? Reckon I should be up and running sometime next month, when I have everything read to go. I use to be part of 355th back in 2003/4. Reckon I also need to do some research on any Hawg squadrons out there :D 1 My Hangar: F16C | FA18C | AH64D | F14A/B | M2000C | AV8B | A10C/ii | KA50/iii | Chinook | UH1H | OH58 | Gazelle | FC3 | CA | Supercarrier My Spec: Obsidian750D Airflow | Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K | 128GB DDR4 Vengeance @3600 | RTX3080 12GB OC | ZXR PCIe | WD Black 2TB SSD | Log X56 | Log G502 | TrackIR | 1 badass mutha
DAZnBLAST Posted September 16, 2012 Author Posted September 16, 2012 Thanks for the reply. I'll probably want to run the latest version (probably bugs fixed in the update)? Or was it just to accomodate DCS World? Reckon my desktop res will only be 1280x1024 I bought A10C from Amazon last week. Jona33 Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Personally I think that 1.1.1.1 is a bit more stable but having world is more convenient if you've got multiple aircraft or if you want to play MP. Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing
Wolf Rider Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 probably upgrade the 560 to a 680, to take advantage of the newer slot spec and be aware the (I assume a 77 chipset you're running) can be a bit flakey depending on model and earlier manufacture... but yeah that'd run the sim just fine City Hall is easier to fight, than a boys' club - an observation :P "Resort is had to ridicule only when reason is against us." - Jefferson "Give a group of potheads a bunch of weed and nothing to smoke out of, and they'll quickly turn into engineers... its simply amazing." DAZnBLAST Posted September 16, 2012 Author Posted September 16, 2012 Hmmm, tricky one. I will want to hook up with fellow hogs in MP. Dont want an unstable experience though! wolle Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 I myself also have a GTX560ti and have been thinking about upgrading to the GTX680. Good idea? I am not much of a computer expert, so I have a couple of questions: When I search for a GTX 680 card online, I get GTX cards from Nvidia, ASUS, EVGA, and many more. Are they all the same product, or a different product that happens to have the same type name (GTX 680)? Or is it different manufacturers making essentially the same card? When I update to the new card, do I simply order it online, and when it arrives do I simply unplug the old card and insert the new one, or is it more complicated than that. Do I need to make sure my computer has the proper specs to handle the new card (e.g. power supply)? Probably silly questions, but unfortunately I do not know that much about computers... DAZnBLAST Posted September 16, 2012 Author Posted September 16, 2012 Hi Wolle I'm a bit out of date with my knowledge, but your GPU choice question...yes, different manufacturers but same card, from nvidia in this case. Some manufacturers are more reputable than others. My particular card is from ASUS. Only thing to worry about is your mobo supporting PCI-E 3.0 and making sure you have the correct drivers for your card. 560ti is a PCI-E 2.0 card. SyntaxError Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 I'm gonna go ahead and say that a lot of people get terrible performance in DCS World compared to FC2 and DCS standalones. Alot of the guys here are quick to say just get a new GFX card, when in actuality the game is badly optimized in certain areas. So I say go ahead and install World and the A10C module and see what frames you get. If you unhappy with your performance go ahead and download and install DCS A10C V1.1.1.1 (doesn't require world) and see if you get increased performance. DCS World is relatively new so I hope performance issues will be ironed out soon. Its terrible when even the recommended specs can't even run the game. ENO Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Some guys have to enter the ip directly- others can see us in the browser in-game. Most can see us... We are one of the few remaining 1111 servers out there. Mostly because what was mentioned earlier about stability and performance. You can install both versions so why not? They install separately in their own folders... Some actually say the single player 1.2 isn't half bad once you implement a few recommended fixes- all found here in this forum. wolle Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 On my system, which as I pointed out in my previous reply, doesn't have all that great a graphics card, I could run the stand alone version of A-10C with all settings at max, and still get 20fps+ on the ground and 30 fps+ in the air. Many people state that the performance went down with DCS world. My experience was different, the first version of DCS world ran just fine, but the most recent one (DCSW 1.2) is when I noticed a severe drop in fps and increased number of crashes. May have to do with the new grass or new routines needed for CA, not sure though... I can't speak for 1111 as I only started playing DCS about a month ago, but I do have some FPS experiences to share about 1.2. I quickly became addicted to this game and have updated almost my entire system so I have a good before/after picture. My original specs: GA-790XTA-UD4 Mobo AMD x4 970BE @3.5GHz Sapphire HD 6870 Xfire 8GB CL9 Ram @ 1333 PCPC 750W PSU With this system on a 1920x1200 28" HannsG on LOW-MEDIUM settings and low AA I was getting sometimes down into single-digit FPS on ground/near cities and 20-40 in air. Lots of stuttering, playable but not too smooth. Choppy almost constantly. I then did some reading and through a couple different purchases got set up with this system just a couple of days ago: Asus P8Z68-V/Gen3 Mobo i5-2500K OC@ 4.5GHz HIS IceQ HD 7950 OC 8GB CL9 Ram @ 1600 (same sticks) PCPC 750W PSU WOW what a difference. I now get, with max settings, 25-55fps on the ground and 40-75fps in the air on the same monitor. Buttery smooth. CPU doesn't ever break 50ºC and GPU doesn't break 53ºC. As it happened, I upgraded the GPU first and found by my own experience and reading about those of others with DCS that the CPU is typically what bottlenecks a system based on that DCS only uses one CPU core. I then upgraded mobo/CPU and got a much bigger fps jump than with just the GPU. Hope this helps!

DAZnBLAST Posted October 9, 2012 Author Posted October 9, 2012 Thanks Antigoon, my version is 1.1.0.7 Can I go to version 1.1.1.1 from here? Which files do I download exactly the exe and the bin? BigfootMSR Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 (edited) They were correct, you need to download the .exe file and ALL 3 .bin files. Place them all into a folder and then run the .exe. Here is a link for the 1.1.1.1 version in english http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?scr=product&ProductId=25&end_pos=135&lang=en Please note that this version is really outdated now. The newest version is DCS world 1.2.1 which you can find here http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?scr=product&ProductId=21&end_pos=137&lang=en Again, download all of the files on the page (1 .exe, 3 .bin) place them into a folder and run it. Once that has been installed, you can download the a-10 module from here http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?scr=product&ProductId=8&end_pos=136&lang=en If you do not un-install your previous a-10 version, it will automatically be detected and activated. BigfootMSR Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Its a completely new install. In fact, if you wanted, you could leave your 1.1.0.7 install alone and DCS world will install right beside it. World wont touch it.
