optimised settings for high end gpu's TESTED ON 680

Recommended Posts

hi everyone.

After a many hours of testing for optimal settings I have come up with these and I thought I would share my settings for the highest possible graphics and smoothness for dcs.

these settings should work on any highend card eg 570,580,680. you may have to alter the settings if you are dipping below the 30 fps.

see attached pictures for all my settings along with some samples. right click and save as and open them using windows viewer set to fullscreen, these are 1920x1080.

I achieved these results by setting adaptive half refresh rate (30fps) having a solid 30fps that runs that consistant across the board in all situations including a TrackIR with absolutly no dips is better than have fluctuating fps from 40-50 to 70 etc. I have learnt this from FSX.

checkout the samples I think the depth and detail of the images speak for themself :D

hi there,

the adaptive half refreshing is only available on nvidia cards with the 3xx drivers.

there are other ways to limit your fps to 30 though,

firstly you can set the max fps in the graphics.lua file in the config folder of dcs world.

MSI also have a frame limiting feature.

see http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18360071

I am not very familiar with amd graphics settings either but if you do some research you can prob achieve the same settings

download http://downloads.guru3d.com/MSI-Afterburner-2.2.0-Beta-10-download-2839.html

hope this helps

Are you overriding application settings? I was told to always use application aaa etc

hi,

yep all settings as per attached pic.

I found the application aa was shimmery and not as smooth as setting it in the nvidia control panel. I also noted that if you look at the cockpit panels some of the edges would shimmer with application aa, with the custom settings this is eliminated.

in my opinion and from my testing these are the ultimate settings for dcs on the 3xx drivers.

Man, I think that this is my last hope.

I´m looking forward to play FC3, I´m also got a new MSI GTX 660 Ti OC Edition and I started to play DCS World. I´m not happy with my FPS either.

FC2 runs like a charm, always with 60 FPS (except on take off), but DCS World, only 25 FPS, max of 30(only on dogfight at Instant Action).

Well, I hope that your tips do the job. I´ve already try everthing here.:hmm:

My system specs are:

i5 2500k @ 4.3ghz

8GB Vengeance 1600Mhz

500 GB Western Digital Blue only for OS.

500 GB Western Digital Blue dedicated only for games.

MSI GTX 660 Ti Power Edition OC.

OCZ Modxstream 700w

Dell S2230MX monitor

@ Griffin, the key is to get a fluid constant 30fps and lock it there,

flightsims are different than first person shooters where you need high fps.

I pretty much followed the same principles as setting up FSX.

unlocked fps cause dips and spikes that result microstutters.

@atledreier

you are correct, but changeing them to 1024 made no impact on my performance so I left them @ 1024.

I do agree they should be left on 512 for single screen setup.

Try turning Threaded Optimisation to OFF.

It seems to stop the shimmery gauge markings/ panel etc, this end at least

30fps makes the terrain jitter (as in flicker but not as in judder or stutter) as well

Hi m8.

I tried all possible combinations, and this is what worked out the best for the gtx 680.

threaded optimisation off did not cure the shimmering at stock settings.

30 fps does not make terrain jitter either for me.

you need to try the settings i posted exactly as I have shown.

err, thanks, I like my settings but (humour me) have a look in outside view at the terrain from over your plane looking down

beleive me I have spent a loooooong time testing out settings and configurations.

these ones produce the highest quality while retaining complete smoothness.

whats the spec of your system? every system is different but as a general rule I lock fps at 30 fps for flightsims. fluctuating fps takes away any pure smoothness.

of coarse you can lower the settings and lock at 60fps. but you wont gain anything other than having the same smoothness and less of eye candy..

it should help others too, to find that balance of eye candy and smoothness..

you will always have people that think the more fps you have the better, it really is not applicable to flightsims.. more doesn't mean better. fps junkies :P

that sounds like your monitor has a high response time, it would make sense then that you would be experiencing those issues at 30 fps

are these pics with your settings or mine?

the images look nothing like the quality that mine have, have a look at my attached images on first post of this thread.

I can clearly see jaggy aa on the plane, terrain does not look like mine either..

Well, if that's working for you - good onya

I'm running these exact settings, and I have found that I get better FPS from my card.

Even with my MFD's running.

But I do have a EVGA GTX680 4Gb card.

what card have you got? and what drivers are you using

Curious as to how you were able to have anisotropic sample optimization -on with Texture filtering quality set to - High Quality. On mine i cant have it on while filtering quality is set to High Quality.
