Dropship Pilot Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 (edited) And so it begins ... ... a testfit of my ACESII built. It's made from wood and sheet aluminium. The parachute container is an original part. Still quite some work to do but you can already guess what it will be when finished. Thanks a lot to everyone providing measurements and pictures - without your help this project would be a no go! Cheers, Stefan Edited September 26, 2012 by Dropship Pilot

PeterP Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 what you should add to your To-Do-List , so that your pit will not feel so"sterile" in the end: 1.Adding a Butt kicker to the seat. 2.Mounting a FFB support for the Warthog-Grip that is directly linked/mounted to the vibrating seat. >>>Two MS FFB2 with Cougar Grip
Whisky One Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 That is one killer of a seat! I wonder how you made the ejection handles, I'm still trying to make a set that doesn't look like it was ran over by a truck :D
TomDK Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Very cool !! My old, sold, pit: http://bilder.einzelart.de/thumbnails.php?album=74&page=3
Dropship Pilot Posted September 26, 2012 Author Posted September 26, 2012 (edited) PeterP: I've already toyed with the idea of using a buttkicker. However, the seat pan was built from several layers of 8mm plywood (DM: thanks for the pictures and measurements) and thus is quite massive - so I'm not sure if I'll get a good effect from the buttkicker. On the plus side: even if I turn the BK up it won't get anywhere :D Whisky One: The ejection seat handles were made from 8mm plywood too. First, I cut three templates (for the recess in the grip area, for the cutout and for the recess at the lower edge of the cutout). Then I used these together with a manual router with a template guide to mill the handles into shape. All in all I have to say that it would probably have been easier to make the grips from two layers of 5mm and 3mm aircraft quality plywood and a jigsaw, but I wanted to try working with the router. Dropship Pilot Posted September 26, 2012 Author Posted September 26, 2012 - Placing the seat on little rubber dampers to the floor at the end can help to improve the vibration even more . ... and it will help keeping the family downstairs from getting mad ;) Hmm, now that I think about it: I have an old subwoofer that's not in use anymore - might be good for a first test. This don't has to be only a test: DCS - Force feedback but no rumble?
Whisky One Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Thanks for the info on the handles dropship. Ill show you what I'll come up with in some weeks when I have time to build. PeterP, is a Basshaker better than tactile feedback (something like TFS3) in the seat cushions? I'm a little bit scared to get a buttkicker. This because my aces II "copy" is made of MDF woodglue and just a couple of screws. Will it tear the structure apart if I have a buttkicker below the 0.5 mm aluminum seatpan.? anyways i'm looking forward to your progress dropship!
showtime817th Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Hello Whisky, I have a Bass shaker In the seat bottom of my MFD copy of the acess II and have no problems at all and I'm thinking of adding another shaker in the seat back. Showtime817th [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Dropship Pilot Posted November 1, 2012 Author Posted November 1, 2012 Small update: Did some work on the link mechanism connecting the two ejection handles: Cheers, Stefan
Deadman Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 looking good very close to the real deal  https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
Dropship Pilot Posted November 17, 2012 Author Posted November 17, 2012 (edited) Still not finished, but enough for a little update... The base is a an original CDU (thanks to Jimbo who pointed me in the right direction) that had some damage to the right side. I fixed the broken off sections but still have to repaint it. The function buttons below the screen are differend so I'll have to rework them or find some replacements (yeah -very unlikely). As I had no way to get the original charater display working, it was replaced by a 3.5" 640x480 TFT display with a green glass in front of it. The screen protector was made from a CD jewel case. Hansolo Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 You got hold of a real CDU front.... I envy you.. Congratulations on your find and also on the very nice ejection seat configuration. Dropship Pilot Posted May 18, 2013 Author Posted May 18, 2013 (edited) It's been quite some time so I guess it's time for an update: As you can see I'm still working on my Aces II. No big changes but quite a lot of additional details: The manual emergency chute handle for example - looks easy to do but it consists of 4 parts all done from several layers of plywood (I want a milling machine!!). The arming lever is also done from plywood while the harness lock is an original part: The oxygen bottle bracket is almost done but still needs to be fixed to the side of the seat bucket: -DSP Edited May 18, 2013 by Dropship Pilot 1

metalnwood Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 Great work, you are doing really excellent stuff with hand held tools although I understand you really wanting a milling machine :)

Dropship Pilot Posted May 20, 2013 Author Posted May 20, 2013 Thanks guys! Just got 9 meters of DZUS-rails in. So it looks like I got to start on the rest of the pit too! Cheers, Stefan
MacFevre Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Nice Dropship. Curious, and your free to disregard of course, but where did you happen to get your dzus rail? I've been on the lookout for railing and fasteners, but can't seem to find a supplier.
