Ensi Ferrum
May be you should try installing DirectX 9. Will give it a try this afternoon. Maybe a solution, but Call of Duty: Black Ops, which uses DX9 as far as I know, is running fine. ARM505
You probably don't want to hear 'it works fine on mine' but....it works on my (and other) installs of Win8. Once you do get it working of course, you'll discover the 'crash on exiting mission' that IS definitely a Win8 issue :)

Comanche163
Crash in Win 8 I too am getting a CTD whenever I exit a mission using Windows 8 consumer preview. The only game Im having an issue with in Win 8. Im not too worried. Win 8 isn't even out yet for a few more days and Im sure ED is looking into it. Who knows, maybe the issue wont happen with the retail version? Looking forward to getting back into the DCS series. My A10 and Mustang are currently gathering dust in my virtual hanger till a fix comes out.:pilotfly: Rob
Steel Jaw
Just a question, not meaning to troll, but as a simmer/gamer, why would anyone give up the stability of W7 and roll the dice on W8? What possible advantage could there be? "You see, IronHand is my thing" My specs: W10 Pro, I5/11600K o/c to 4800 @1.32v, 64 GB 3200 XML RAM, ASUS RTX3060ti/8GB. Comanche163
Just a question, not meaning to troll, but as a simmer/gamer, why would anyone give up the stability of W7 and roll the dice on W8? What possible advantage could there be? Well, that's a perfectly valid question. Im not even sure Ill be staying with Win 8 at this point, but looking forward, there will be a lot more win8 machines running 6 months from now since PC manufactures will be shipping with w8 preinstalled. Therefore, there will gradually be more W8 users down the road and a developer would want their software to run on as many os's as possible. A few of us have bitten the bullet early to give win 8 a fair shake. (myself included) Kind of like taking one for the team, so to speak. I had a bad virus a month ago on my W7 PC and thought Id give Win 8 a try since I was looking at re formatting my drive anyway. I have about 8 games /sims installed in W8 and DCS world was the only one giving me issues. Im told early builds were OK with DCS world, but I only installed it a month ago. So something probably broke with one of the more recent builds. W8 does offer some advantages over W7. It boots up faster (not a biggie) has more security features and is equally stable as w7. The metro interface was something I hated:mad: and I don't like not having a start button, so I bought Start 8 from Stardock ($4.99) to add back the W7 start button and by pass the new Gui and just boot to the desktop. Now its like having all the advantages of W8 with none of the drawbacks. (except that DCS world crashes!) But im hoping that will be fixed. If not, Ill go back to W7 since I don't want to give up on DCS stuff. Rob
Rusty_M
Is your RAM really only at 686 MHz? That strikes me as slow, although I have no idea if this is a likely cause. The world is going mad. SOTKungfu
have you tried starting it with compatibility settings to Win7? also with sound disabled? I have it working on win8 with 2xgtx560 on intel i7 w/12GB RAM and same controllers also, if you just set the RAM timings to auto does it change anything? also, getting the start button back and disabling the metro UI was just a registry setting away. Thanks for the suggestions, Ive tried the win 7 compatibility settings and disabling sound but still no good. Ive also tried going back to the default video drivers in win 8 , but still the same. Ill wait and see what happens when the retail version of W8 comes out Friday and see if that makes a difference. If not, just wait for a fix. Ensi Ferrum
Found the cause why it is not starting. My 7" Somikon Displays for the MFCDs!! Did a fresh install of Win8 today, installed all drivers, except the 2 Somikons. Then installed DCS World 1.2.1 and it was running fine. After that I installed the driver for the 7" displays, restarted the PC and connected the displays. And voila, DCS World 1.2.1 refuses to start. Question again to some DCS-Officials: When will we see a patch for this issue, as it was working fine with 1.2.0??!! As I said earlier in this thread, if you need some more info, just ask.
