jmod Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 DCS: Black Shark, and DCS: A-10C Warthog are implications of some military contracts. I don't ask about next DCS module (ED hates these kind of questions), but I just want to know if there were some new military contacts! :D Let's fly together for the sake of peace :)
leafer Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 When it's ready. :D ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

sorcer3r Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 I remember a Mi-8 (?) Video with the nevada terrain. I hope they talked about a Mi-24. :D [sIGPIC]http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b582/sorcerer17/sorcf16-b_zpsycmnwuay.gif[/sIGPIC]

leafer Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 Another fast mover... ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
WarthogSmurf Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 Perhaps they started with a military contract but evolved into a more flight sim platform with third party developers. So i highly doubt all the third parties have military contracts
Kuky Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 Not 3rd parties, but ED probably does... but then again P-51D was not a military contract PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
EtherealN Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 Military Contracts have never been a requirement towards selection of a given aircraft for a DCS product. However, when it comes to aircraft that are in current use, it certainly is helpful towards securing knowledge transfers etcetera - as long as the state or corporation that issued the contract accepts development of a commercial derivative. For an example of this, recall that the original intent was for DCS A-10A, not DCS A-10C, however modeling the more advanced and current version of the aircraft became possible through the generosity of said client. It's all a question of two things in my estimation: access to information, and business synergies. Sometimes the information is available anyway - for example through TFC owning and operating said aircraft as in the case of the Mustang - and sometimes the synergies offered by the military contract are not such that they could be exploited in a consumer market aircraft anyhow; but the technology developed for the contract (or parts thereof) might be useable. (See Combined Arms.) And finally, there is a possible secondary synergy as well (again, this is my estimation, I have no access to ED/TFC business arrangements but I have done business otherwise) - the consumer products can serve as excellent showcases for potential military clients. If a given airforce or aircraft manufacturer is looking for someone to develop a trainer, and they get to sit down for a guided tour of DCS whatever, this might serve to demonstrate to them that ED knows what it's doing and is thus a possible contractor for whatever the client needs done. BHawthorne Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 (edited) Yea right, they signed an agreement for the Texan II :D Considering how financially screwed Beechcraft Wichita is right now, they'd probably sell you the CAD assembly files for it for a 6-pack of beer and a lap dance at Jezebel's. Edited November 28, 2012 by BHawthorne
Jona33 Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 I'd sell my brother for that. But then again that's not saying much. :D Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing

Where's their number..? The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.
