mue Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 Is it possible to change the trim behavior for non force feedback joysticks as follows: If I trim, it should only set the autopilot (attitude,heading,...) WITHOUT changing the new virtual center position of the joystick. The reason I ask is because I want to modify my joystick: remove the center spring and add dampers so that the stick is held in place if I release it. The mod is described in this thread. The problem (also mentioned in this thread) is: if I trim the helicopter, the joystick should stay in the same position (like in real life). But unfortunately the non ffb trim behavior forced me to center the joystick.

lokitexas Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 Shooting wild here, but doesn't turning Force Feedback (even if you don't have it) on cause this kind of behaviour? I think it does. When I was using a MSFFB2 it placed the stick in the trimmed position. I tried it on the X65 (enabled FF) and it seemed to do the same. It is hard to tell with the X65's force sensing, even with Ctrl Enter input display. Anyway, I am pretty sure you are correct. i5 3570k @ 4.3 560ti GTX 2gig 8gig RAM Intel SSD Win7 64bit

Bushmanni Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 I'd also like to know if this is possible. I have tried forcing FFB on from options and through config files but neither helped. Enabling force feedback doesn't work. It seams the program detects that my joystick (X52) is not a force feedback device and therefore ignores this option. I made the following test: I disabled the central position trimmer mode, enabled force feedback. In the cockpit I opend the control indicator window. Then I moved the joystick away from the center and hold it there. Now I pressed-released the trim button multiple times. The trim behavior I aim for would let the ingame cyclic stay in place. But in this test the cyclic moved farther away from the center with every trim press-release. Fortunately I found this solution: Setting in FMOptions.lua the variable HelicopterTrimmerTauInverse = 0.0 seams to result in my desired trim behavior.
mue Posted November 29, 2012 Author Posted November 29, 2012 turn off the centralized trim option in options under special? That doesn't help. You still have to center the joystick, otherwise you get a "bump" because the joystick position is added to the new virtual center position.
PeterP Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 (edited) Idea to overcome this issue and "overwrite" the FFB settings that will work: Get the cheapest possible FFB device you can get so Windows-DX Level reports a FFB compatibility (a FFB driving wheel or Rumble-Pad will do the job). Hook it up while starting DCS and clear all input settings from it. Than just set DCS to use FFB. After you have done it, your joystick axis should work like you need them for doing your mod. Believe Me - this will work. RazorbackNL Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 Stirring up an old threat. Here is my situation: HOTAS Cougar (heavily modified = long shaft, non self centering, hall sensors) and G27 force feedback steering wheel Because of the G27, DCS is being tricked in thinking the Cougar is ffb, therefore I have ticked the FFB setting in options. I want to use the trimmer button only to set the heading channel. What happens is when I press and hold the trimmer button, the Shark responds with a bit nose down action. It shouldn't be doing this because of the FFB option being enabled. Any thoughts on this? All the other helicopters work wonderful this way. That's the right option, but it's a timing problem: After releasing the trim-button, the stick has to be centered (aka:released) VERY fast. Otherwise you'll see the 'bump'. IMO a short delay after release (0.2sec) to center would be nice to get rid of the bump.

This could be causing those symptoms.
gavagai Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 FYI, ffb does not recenter the joystick if you're flying the 109K-4 or 190D-9 because the pitch trim in those aircraft adjusts the horizontal stabilizer only.
