When you request permission to takeoff from ATC and they say "climb 300...",what is this 300? Don't think it is a heading since it is always 300 regardless of what airport/runway I use. Is it an altitude? 300ft is well below TPA. If it is FL300, why do they want me climbing so high?

Can anyone shed any light on this?

300 meters?(about 1000')

ATC is metric IIRC

Do you think that getting 9 women pregnant will get you a baby in 1 month?

The current DCS ATC is in need of a lot of work, as put simply, it's pretty much useless. Don't try and work out why it tells you do one thing or another because there really isn't any way to apply realistic logic to it.

Hopefully in the near future when ED have the resources we'll get a proper ATC system. Until then, I wouldn't bother.

Falcon ATC remains good IMHO, perhaps look at it for inspiration.

Alright then, I'll just ignore the jerk in the tower. Never liked him anyways. He keeps calling me Tusk even though I selected Colt as my callsign in the ME.

The Mig-21 will almost require it to be effective in a modern battlefield.

If people actually use it, it's still not completely useless when it comes to take-off/landing permission and preventing accidents. At least when it comes to not let 2 different people take off and land at the same time. And I think it will kind of even "warn" when theres some crashed plane on the runway. So I would recommend people to still use it in MP for taking off and landing.

But yes. It is rather basic. For me personally it's still an enigma on how to get the ILS working reliably with the ATC, for example.. kinda broken. Also the Bearing/Heading replies from the ATC to properly move to the start of a landing glide-path don't make sense to me either.

A better or more realistic AI ATC system or even a human player controlled ATC/Awacs role for CA would be quite great indeed, I agree.

Set your HSI to the runway he gives you (e.g., runway 09 is going to be at roughly 90 degrees) and then turn to the heading he gives you. When the deviation indicator on your HSI centers up, turn to the runway heading and you should be on the glide path, generally 10-15 miles from the runway.

EDIT:

You need to have ILS selected on the NMSP as well. It's the set of buttons just under the HSI.
