Two-Six Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Hi I am a noob I have a few questions. Whats the point of DCS World? Whats the diffrence between the DCS BlackSHark2 and DCS world? Why would I want to go to DCS world at all? I have DCS Black shark 2 now, I bought the upgrade last night. I can't log onto to the multiplayer parts of the game in DSC world or BS2. I get the wrong serial number/invalid account thing. No idea why. I am starting to work out how to do it again and this includes setting up my control axes. Why do I have two system settings in the controls section "sim" and "game"? Why do I have the two seemingly independent sets of settings in DCS world? Do I need to set up the control axes FOUR times? Why can't I log into DCS to look at my game/upgrade account or get a reset password from them are they having a holiday or something? How can I fix the multiplayer log in thing? I understand I need to get into the manage your serial number thing on the DCS web site and tweak my registered serial number things. I just can't log into the site. I could last night when I bought the game. I wrote down all the deatails as I typed them in and the next time I tried to log in it wouldn't let me. Help! Thats it for now Thanks
louisv Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 (edited) Email ED to get your id and password, without that there is not a whole lot you can do. DCS world is free. Download and install. That gives you the 25T. Its a simulation, but if you dont like study sim, like DCS, then choose the game and the game controls, its a lot easier. If you have BS installed already (pre dcs world version), then you can install the upgrade which will be in DCS world WITH the serial you get when you buy and that you can check later with your name and password of course. (upgrade is cheaper so you need to have BS installed already, even tough the original BS is not in DCS world.) Think of DCS world as FSX for military, other publishers will join in shortly. If you want to install FC3, you need FC2 or Lock-On to be installed, Ubisoft copyright thing. Everything else, Mustang, CA, A-10C and eveything that is forthcoming will go into DCS:World. Each plane or chopper has its own controls (careful not to overwrite one with the other when you save!.) Good luck and do read round in the forum, answers are there. lou Edited March 9, 2013 by louisv MSI Z170A Titanium Edition mobo + 6700K CPU 32 GB G.Skill TridentZ memory 3200 MHz Sandisk Extreme Pro 256 GB SSD Samsung 950 Pro 512 GB M.2 SSD (3 GB/s) for DCS and +. Corrigan Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 DCS World is a common environment into which all previous stand-alone games are now plugged in as modules. You install World, and then on top of that any module you have purchased. You want DCS World because the standalones aren't being updated any more, and because you have all your sims in one place. Also, you can fly with your buddies in different aircraft in multiplayer. The Game mode is what it sounds like. A watered-down version of the physics and avionics for people who are scared by realism :p Don't worry about it. You switch between the two in the options menu. If you don't plan on playing Game mode, you don't need to set up your controls for it. Axes need to be set only once per aircraft. Hamblue Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Basically world is simply the same thing as the map/enrivonment in BS2. Instead of having a separate game/environment for each aircraft, (which is what BS2, FC2 and A-10C were), they decided to do it right and make the platform similar to Microsoft Flight Simulator, where you have the "world" and purchase the aircraft to go into it. It's nothing more than that. Asus Sabertooth P67 Motherboard 2600k CPU, 16 gig DDR3, 1600. Samsung 830, 256 gig hard drive, GTX780 Video Card, Warthog Hotas, Razer Mamba mouse. Two-Six Posted March 9, 2013 Author Posted March 9, 2013 OK so I have read the stickies. I am a little wiser. I am sure my changes I made in stand alone BS2 didn't stay when I went into DCS world. I still don't get it. Does DCS World just start up BS2 as if I clicked on the BS2 icon directly? It seems like it is two seperate games. What is the diffrence between the two "versions" of Black Shark? if any.
Ebs Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Two-Six, forgot about BS2. It's the old standalone version. DCS:World is where it's at now. DCSW is the new simulation...and it contains modules. Current modules are Black Shark (2), P-51 and A10. Buying the standalone Black Shark 2 is the same as buying the BS2 module for DCS World. You install DCS World, then install the modules into that. Main difference between BS2 standalone and BS2 DCS World module is that the standalone isn't updated anymore. Check out my guide to JSGME for DCS World.
Quirkitized Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 (edited) answers in bold Hi I am a noob I have a few questions. Whats the point of DCS World? To stream line all products. Every update to dcs world goes to all modules. Multiplayer compatability, allow the use of all modules in one game. Whats the diffrence between the DCS BlackSHark2 and DCS world? You gain all the new updates, stand a lone products are no longer updated. Auto updater. Why would I want to go to DCS world at all? See above, gain updates. Simulation is ... everything. Game mode is there to make it easier for somebody that may just be starting out and just wants to hit things without much effort, like with an xbox controller or sorts. Also really great for really young kids that don't understand it all.. Why do I have the two seemingly independent sets of settings in DCS world? Not sure what you mean.... Do I need to set up the control axes FOUR times? Only once, per module you have installed. Twice per module if you do game mode as well. Why can't I log into DCS to look at my game/upgrade account or get a reset password from them are they having a holiday or something? support ticket/support forum How can I fix the multiplayer log in thing? support ticket/forum Basically, the last of the headaches are from previous black shark 1 and/or 2 owners, and/or a10c owners figuring out DCS world compared to stand a lones. From now on it should never be an issue with new products, theres no more stand a lone products planned (afaik). Its much easier now, just install dcs world, then install the module you own. It's great. If there was no DCS world, then it would continue to be a nightmare. Imagine leaving a multiplayer game to start up another game (say go from a10 to ka50) so u can fly the ka50, but somebody already took the slot by the time u got back into the server. Then imagine getting sweet updates to A10C for the "world" it flies in but another month later for ka50...issues like that It's a bit of trouble for some people adjusting from old standalone products to dcs world but overall the future I think is 50x better Edited March 9, 2013 by Quirkitized
Rongor Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Your installed version of BS2 is worthless. You can uninstall BS2. (Do not uninstall BS1 if you got the BS2 upgrade) Go to the download section http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?ProductId=21&end_pos=137&scr=product&lang=en Download DCS World Install DCS World Go to the modules download section http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?end_pos=136&scr=products&lang=en Look for the "DCS: Black Shark 2 Upgrade 1.2.3 (English download version)" Follow download and installation instructions and install. You now have DCS World and the BS2 module installed. Start DCS World Configure your settings brand new Play!
Feuerfalke Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Hi I am a noob I have a few questions. I'll try to answer your questions from my user-perspective. Feel free to correct me. Whats the point of DCS World? To be able to create a unified battlefield for all ED simulations: BlackShark, A-10C, P-51 as well as Combined Arms. It's basically a modular system, that allows ED and 3rd-Party-Developers to create new content for DCS. Whats the diffrence between the DCS BlackSHark2 and DCS world? DCS World is the new engine and environment for DCS. the *free* download includes the SU-25T with the semi-advanced flightmodel. DCS BS2 is a module that you can buy in order to fly this helicopter in DCS World - online or single-player. Why would I want to go to DCS world at all? If you only play offline: Because it contains a lot of bugfixes and it is the basis for all coming modules, which will be "docked" into DCS World. Getting the Su25T for free is a nice addon as well. If you play online, you need DCS World to play with other Players and other players modules. I have DCS Black shark 2 now, I bought the upgrade last night. I can't log onto to the multiplayer parts of the game in DSC world or BS2. I get the wrong serial number/invalid account thing. No idea why. Once you bought the update and installed the module, you are asked to activate it. You need to enter the activation-code in order to fly. The multiplayer-connection does not automatically recognize your copy. I am starting to work out how to do it again and this includes setting up my control axes. Why do I have two system settings in the controls section "sim" and "game"? BlackShark2 is a very complex simulation. In order to attact more player, there is a very simple and a highly complex gamemode. The Game-Mode does include a radar and other helpers, that the original Ka-50 doesn't have. So it's only logic the commands are seperated for both gametypes. That includes axis behaviour as well. Why do I have the two seemingly independent sets of settings in DCS world? They are independend. But you don't need to set up both. If you only use the simulation-mode, then there is no need to map the game-mode at all. If you play the game-mode, don't worry about the simulation, unless you want to know more and are ready for new challenges. Do I need to set up the control axes FOUR times? No, 2 times, as you said yourself: Sim and Game. Why can't I log into DCS to look at my game/upgrade account or get a reset password from them are they having a holiday or something? How can I fix the multiplayer log in thing? When starting the game should prompt your for the key. If not, check out the support-section. I understand I need to get into the manage your serial number thing on the DCS web site and tweak my registered serial number things. I just can't log into the site. I could last night when I bought the game. I wrote down all the deatails as I typed them in and the next time I tried to log in it wouldn't let me. Check for spelling errors. IIRC you need to uninstall BS2, then install DCS and then reinstall BS2 on top. Note that DCS World now also includes an automated update-function. It will keep your simulation and modules up to date. One more great plus for DCS World. :) Yes, you use your shop-login for DCS-Multiplayer. You can set your Nickname independently in the multiplayer-options before or after logging in, btw. Good luck on retrieving your login information! If you can't log in, check out the support-forum. Weta43 Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 If you have the standalone installed, and have DCS.world with the correct module installed into that, you can uninstall the standalone version. Any modules you own and have installed (Ka-50, A-10, P-51, FC3 etc) will be available throught DCS.World GUI Cheers.

Quirkitized Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Just to make it clear for others if they see this, that are black shark 1 owners that purchased black shark 2 upgrade. 1. Install Black Shark 1, activate it. 2. Download DCS World 3. Download Black Shark 2 Upgrade MODULE 4. Install DCS World 5. Install Black Shark 2 upgrade Module for DCS World 6. Start DCS World 7. Load a Mission for black shark 2, play it. 8. It'll ask you to activate. Put in your black shark 2 upgrade key. 9. Done...
Two-Six Posted March 9, 2013 Author Posted March 9, 2013 (edited) With my log in issue..I think what it is is that I have never made an account for DCS World multiplay as I have not got passed the invalid serial number problem. Perhaps I have changed my password I have made a lot of requests to change my password but still have no replies with a change PW code..... SO just to check...Uninstall BS2, Uninstall DCS...Leave my patched up old installation of BS1 still installed....Reboot and cclean etc then re-install DCS world, then the module KA-50bs1_en_1.2.3.9871_134.exe Thats it ...How about any registry keys left over will there be my screwed up serial numbers in there somewhere? I have that registry file BS2regDelKeys.reg should i use that? UPDATE I did all the uyninstalling and did use the registry reset thing which did get rid of my stored key (which was the one I got when I bought the KA50 module....It lets me make a user profile and then says invalid serial number when I try to go to multiplayer Edited March 10, 2013 by Two-Six
16th Widowmakr Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 You dont HAVE to uninstall BS2 just install DCS World and this module: DCS: Black Shark 2 Upgrade 1.2.3 and put in our upgrade activation key when asked. I still have A-10 and BS2 standalone versions on my computer as well as DCS World along with A-10C, BS2, FC3 and Combined Arms.
